I don't believe that banning Alzari for one year or twenty matches will serve any useful purpose. Punishment should always match the crime. Along with punishment, there must be some remedial process for reforming the player and the skipper with whom he had the issue. Did the skipper say anything inappropriate to Alzari? Alzari should have been banned for the rest of the series, put in a remedial reform program, and have an open session with the skipper to thrash out any issues. After al we are dealing with Alzari's career.

It is true that Alzarri Joseph's behaviour should have been more severely sanctioned. When this was not done it sent an undesirable message to the cricket world about the quality of Cricket West Indies management of the game in the region. But in addition to this Alzarri Joseph's on-field performance has been very sub-standard for many years. He has been consistently 'going around the park' for a long time because of his poor bowling. Just like Richard 'Prof' Edwards I do not think he has improved nearly as much as he should have. He does not do much with the ball and more often than not he is absolutely 'gun barrel' straight. He seems to believe that his pace is enough. The truth is however that he is not even express pace. There are many in England, India and a few in the West Indies who are consistently, on average, faster. Each time he comes on to bowl I have come to anticipate that any pressure on the batsmen that might have been hard won by Seales, Roach etc is going to be released. Having said all that, however, I observe that in the last 2 ODI's his bowling has been better. I hope that he maintains this trend. If he does not it is high time that he be replaced.
