Hi Daniel, this combo of analog gear just sounds brilliant, great work! I've been debating between an Unfairchild, Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor, and Elysia Alpha. What do you recommend in terms of usability and ability to attract clients? Those eqs you're using sound really good too. I've been looking at the Buzz Req 2.2, but I'm open to other ideas. Thanks for any advice you can give me and I'll watch some more of your videos!

The Unfairchild is great, but the Shadow Hills also attracts Clients and sounds different. I love the Unfairchild. I don't know about the EQ, I did not fall in love with the Buzz, but it might be great for you.

@@danieldettwiler.official Thanks Daniel. Everyone on YT admits that gear matters to clients. A lot of guys who are on forums tell me it doesn’t. But they aren’t selling their hardware and using plugins. Glad I discovered your channel as I know I will learn a lot.

Hi there, do you use compression while tracking?
@danieldettwiler.official
@danieldettwiler.official Жыл бұрын
No, but it's not a bad idea to do, if you know what you do. I don't track music (I do set up the mics, if the band wants that, but then, that's it, what I will be doing during a recording). The Danger is, that if you overcompress or distort too much, you can't go back. A good idea is, to always record clean, but splitt the Mic singnal and also record a compressor...

@@danieldettwiler.official thanks for answering. So if I understand well, the smartest thing to do could be putting some effects on an aux track for safety reasons, correct?

Very nice gear! But I think for some reason i actually liked the mix better without the Unfairchild, it made a color I think made it sound a little unbalanced.! but that's maybe just taste! =) Also level matching wouldn't hurt, but i tried matching myself so no issue!
@danieldettwiler.official
@danieldettwiler.official Жыл бұрын
That's always possible, but the reason could also be, that the settings were not made for that song. The Idea for this video came up to us, once we accidentally inserted the unFairchild to another mix and, while not perfect, it sounded very good, although the settings were for another song. This normally does not happen with plugins. I have a paid masterclass, that goes into the depth way more than those tutorials, and there the levels are more or less matched. But in this free Tutorials, it's not always possible.

@@danieldettwiler.official hey daniel, I am trying to find the right monitor to buy, I am now only mixing on ns10s, those are the ones i know and love to work on. But i need something more full range. Maybe i should get some bigger speakers as a 2nd pair. My question to you is since you have the Strauss Nf3, maybe those could instead be my only pair of speaker and replace the ns10, but do they go low enough? I really like the fast response of the ns10. Have you tried For example the Atc Scm25? I have listened to those and those are in my price range. I think they sound pretty good, but not as nice transient response as my ns10s, also the act i think dont sound very transparent, they sound very warm, and i feel i can hear the cabinet very much. Hard to describe, it sounds like i can hear the box of the speaker. or maybe it is just their signature sound. Most people say the act sounds very transparent, but not in my opinoin. I want something very invisible. Or maybe i should check out the MF-4? what about Atc Scm50? I wish i could hear the strauss someday, they are not easy to find =)

@@MariJu1ce Hey, I would always prefer a Nf3 to anything from ATC. But that's me. The NF3 are way more detailled, show you the dept of field and mycrodynamic. They go rather deep too. You could still combine them with a sub, if you need (look for a video by Eric Valentine, he made one). If you want more Punch and Bass, with strauss you could go to MF4, but that's 20K a pair. The NF3 is great for under 10K. I would absoluteyl go wiht that. I would have not problem to mix music only on them.
