I think it is also hard to compare a schonen to a seinen like that because AOT in my opinion has always been a seinen but disguised as a schonen at the beginning. Why? The character interactions and little hints and dialogues were always just sooo complicated and played with the theme of that typical black and white thinking where in my experience shonen don’t have that amount of grey in their work. Why is that Important? well it adds to the plot and characters in a different way when one writes stories with that grey thinking in mind. They are just gonna be more complex and attractive to mature audiences in general. A shonen can follow that typical black and white theme for the most part and still have a great story with great characters but it is gonna feel different altogether because (at least in my case) the subconscious expectations I have for such a show are gonna be different so I am not gonna expect a character development like Eren‘s in a show like Naruto for example. But I find it way more interesting so I prefer that over Naruto and HxH. But I appreciate those shonen as well for what they are doing. It‘s just they are two different categories. Two different approaches to the complexity of story writing so it is difficult for me to compare them. At the end of the day it comes down to preference but it won’t be possible to objectively say which one is better then. To me it is something like AOT but I can see people saying it is too complicated or too much within various shades of grey. Some people just want the good old good vs. Evil.

Wow! You made some phenomenal points. I'd also agree that AOT is a seinen targeted at a more mature audience. The dark and haunting violence, the complexity of the plot and also the tight rope-walking between morally disagreeable actions.. Overall the story is mature one that is hard to pit against a genre of power scaling and adventure. Still, I'd argue that AOT is one of the best anime of our time Also, thank you for watching! ☺️
