People living and working in the Cities all around Australia need to have a good look at what Governments are doing to farmers. A lot of farmers are ready to walk off the land. The current Labor government is the worst I have ever seen. If there is no farming just mining the price of imported food will make it of reach for most people. Wake up Australia.

Can someone explain to me how mining will help with net zero? Wont the products produced from the minerals mined just add to consumerism and increase emissions. Maybe less consumerism of throw away products would be a bigger help.

You ask a good question. We can't consume our way out of the disaster, it was consumerism that got us into the mess in the first place.

The total tenement area of the expansion permit is 426km2. They aren’t going to mine it all. This is the exploration phase, then they negotiate land access and find the best locations. Saying that “They didn’t contact me” well duh, there’s thousands of properties in that area. Hence the newspaper ads. This is the first stage. Most people in rural Australia are living on property covered by a whole heap of exploration or production permits. It doesn’t mean they bulldoze your house. There’s a process, and mining companies don’t like fighting, they prefer the easier and cheaper option of buying land. They can force it, but it’s extremely rare and expensive. It’s almost like the media has no idea how anything works.

This story is about MIN5532 license area which is on its final stages, awaiting the work plan approval any day now. The recent advertisement of the exploration application for a different area was how the community became aware of these mining plans. Read the DMS investor information, this tells a completely different story to what the local community facing website and Facebook page does. Plans to expand with a mining life of 58 plus years and turning the area into a mining processing hub. This community fought hard to save this same agricultural land from another mining mob back in the 1990s and won. It is for this reason DMS has deliberately flown under the radar with its own activities for the past 20 years to not draw the same attention.
@sallyboyd4185
@sallyboyd4185 2 ай бұрын
In recent community meetings when directly asked DMS staff have admitted if farmers do not consent to mining by selling or leasing their land, DMS will proceed any way with “forced access“. This new story is NOT hype or sensational journalism. This is currently happening across multiple farming communities throughout Victoria, this project is the most advanced.

Since when has Labor ever given a stuff about regional issues apart from royalties from mines. As a small business which relies to a fair degree on the success of agriculture. When Labor is power we know we are in for hard times. Look what is happening in WA..

Pay the farmers properly for their land. This will make mining company think twice. Plus make sure financial bonds are in place to rehabilitate fully the ground in the long term. And improper royalties for Australia's future

They should have to pay for like a 10 year regenerative program where nature can put back everything plus more. Pay the farmer for 10 years to just regenerate and pay the farmer for any time the mine is there. Miners make all these profits and put nothing back

Sorry Project, but for the case of Mineral Sands Mining and Farming: That's very one-sided journalism. I come from the SW region of WA and have been a part of mineral sands mining for nearly 3 decades. Mineral sands mining and farming have coexisted productively in this region for over 70 years. Accepting there have been isolated poor examples in mineral sands rehab (though no industry - including farming - is perfect), there're an overwhelming number of examples of mining & rehabilitation success in a broad array of geographies and soil types. Not only that, but when stakeholders (importantly, farmers) are included meaningfully through the mining and rehab process, relationships and partnerships - built on trust and integrity - are forged and co-benefits are realized. Where I come from, rehabilitation teams and farmers work closely together for the same outcome: sustainable crop/stock yields that are same or better than pre-mining. So, when the land is handed back, the farmer returns to business as usual. There are many examples of this. Look it up.

Australians will profit. They're not "giving it away", they're selling it at market prices. The company will be investing hundreds of millions of dollars, with the economic benefit estimated to be over 2 billion dollars, which includes jobs and local infrastructure. Then there are the Australian taxes they'll be paying on the profits. Not to mention the enormous potential upside for Aussie shareholders in Astron, which is listed on the ASX.

These farmers must be completely ignorant. Astron Corporation has held the exploration and mining licences for the vast Donald project for almost two decades! Farmers have had ample time to keep tabs on the whole development, engage with consultants and lawyers and make a sound case per the usual processes. These are the rules that EVERYBODY has to play by.....sounds like they missed the bus. Astron has a net present value at over $2 per share for stage 1 and over $5 for stage 2. They are only trading around 70c currently on the ASX. These farmers should stop whingeing and start securing their children's future. "But Dad, you knew about this project for so long. Why didn't you clean up?!!"
