I think by AZ firing the weapon wanting life back for his floette the secondary effect gave him extra life. Lysandre goal essentially was death wanting to wipe out life to start anew. So the second effect he received was death, could explain why he and az had different results from using the weapon.

The reason lysander didn't have the same effects on him or why the ultimate weapon works differently when he used it is because he used xerneans/yveltal to activate it. While I think Az used both of them when he activated the ultimate weapon. The ultimate weapon needs both of their powers to fully work. Lysander probably even knew it and chose to use only one of the legendaries to meet his goal. Make humanity immortal/ kill everyone else except team flare members.

If you look at it scientifically, AZ sorta is mega evolved. To facilitate a long life his body changes to the point where it only subsists from the energy from the ultimate weapon and AZs body is super immune to disease and has all the sustenance it would ever need. His bodys growth was uncapped so he could grow more and become super human if you compare his body to a normal one. I still think the growth happened over time and not instantly.

I never thought of this before. After thinking about, at the very least, I think that what happened to AZ is similar to what causes Carbink to suddenly transform into Diancie. Granted, this would depend on the theory that Carbink turned into Diancie due to being hit by the Ultimate Weapon, but still. As far as Lysandre is concerned, it could be that he won't become a long-living giant like AZ. I think Lysandre would've needed to do exactly what AZ did: use the Ultimate Weapon to bring a dead Pokémon back to life first, and then use the Ultimate Weapon to launch an attack. If Legends Z-A is set sometime after the events of X/Y rather than the past, we'll possibly get to find out what happened to him when the game comes out.

My theory for what mega evolution is that it's the forms of the ancestors, the ancient ancestors of these pokemon, who have been grown weaker over time We now have confirmation that mega salamence and mega aerodactyl look like what they originally looked like, since it was explicitly stated that paradox pokemon are from the past/future And its also straight up just stated that mega aerodactyl looks like what aerodactyl looked like in ancient times so what if its the same for all of them, maybe Charizard has two megas because uts original power was split into two Mewtwo might be synthetic, or the mega stones were for mew, but mew gradually grew incompatible with them over 3000 years untill mewtwo came, and was close enough to the mews of 3000 years ago

I always thought that Az was an alien,because he's huge and maybe someone sent him to earth to destroy it,but he chose not too,he kinda hates lysandre,etc? and he hated the mega evolution pokemon thing,because it forced the pokemon to mega evolve and caused them pain,az doesn't like that because he likes the natural bonds formed with people and pokemon(maybe he sees all the trainers and pokemon and they're bond in Kalos and is like "they're just like us flowette,they have a long and strong bond with each other,like we do floette"),az and his flowette are proof of this, they've been through so much and have a long and strong bond with each other.

That.... actually explains a plothole for some interpretations of the story. A wildly popular theory of how mega stones came to be and why they are linked to specific Pokemon comes from the meteorite being blasted with the life energy of the Pokemon that were sacrificed to power the ultimate weapon. So the mega stones are shards of the meteor with condensed life energy of specific pokemon crystalized. Mewtwo didn't exist back then but humans did. What if some humans also fueled the cannon? That would at least be an explanation attempt for the Mewtwo mega stones besides them being created artificially and then just lying around in the region.

Mega evolution isn't some evil thing, like bro's really nitpicking about a mother being worried Salamence is mad because of its wings' shape changing, not because of the energy, gyarados rampages even in its base, it's litterally known for burning down cities when angry And what about pinsir being so happy that it can fly, is that gonna be ignored? Mega evolution only negatively affects a few Pokemon, and that usually happens because of that pokemon's own weakness Not to mention, some of them being theories, like scientists thinking aerodactyl's mega evolution must be painfull Before realising that aerodactyl's mega evolution is it's true form

Mega Evolution is basically a Pokemon drawing on the power of a mega stone (probably something like crystalized infinity energy of the respective pokemon family) and it's human partner. AZ and his Floette both got direct exposure, the Pokemon we Mega Evolve didn't and only draw on it temporarily and change drastically all at once. AZs Floette already was somewhat different based on its flower on the coffin in the cutscene and probably just got stronger while AZ himself maybe just started growing again after being juiced up with so much energy. So it is probably because of those 2 factors.

the energy is called Infinity Energy. think of it as chakra in naruto everyone seemingly has infinity energy but Pokemon seems to have MUCH more of it. the Ultimate Weapon was powered by the infinity energy within Pokemon...and it turned them into the stones you see in Geosenge Town this is all explain in ORAS within the Sea Mauville sidequests
