Is Battlefield 2042 Worth Playing in 2024?

Preordered the $109 version in 2020, played the beta, played 2 hrs of the game on release. havent touched it since. I dont think ill ever preorder again.

Bought it a couple days ago for $8 I’m having a blast . I’ll agree that the maps are way too open and gunplay feels fake, and it bothers me that half the people I’m fighting are bots. Overall badass game imo tho I play almost every day

As a non-battlefield player the game seems to have some major advantages over CoD anyway. It doesn't focus on BR with 90% of it's manpower and it doesn't have as many ridiculous micro transactions. From an outside perspective that alone gives it a massive advantage over CoD. BF is actually a game I would consider potentially buying, with CoD however I've decided to never buy one again.

Buy BF1. I played COD and Battlefield for the first time at roughly the same time, and I can say that: Battlefield multi-player wins in every category except maybe how fast the matches move. MOST CODs have a better single player, but to most people that doesn't seem to matter as much.

When people talk about gunplay about 2042 there’s never a real reason they can follow with it’s always about “feel” it feels like “plastic”. Bf1&5 both had arcade like mechanics with guns like bloom, cheesy damage falloffs, suppression mechanics that wasn’t consistent to follow, and guns that made it impossible to punish bad pushes due to the wide gaps of dps

Thematically, the game's visual style looks all over the place which I hate. It's homogenous one size fits all BS and nothing sticks. Modern setting is awesome, but narrow it down more to a location like the middle east for example with distinct maps, music and weapons. 2042's hodgepodge of random crap isn't memorable or immersive

Problem is the heroes are still there and all the maps I've played have no soul or identity. The game feels soulless. I've literally played EVERY Battlefield game and this, this isn't Battlefield. This was originally meant to be a Battle Royale.

They already outshined CoD almost a decade ago with BF1. Beat them so hard CoD became a laughing stock for weeks... Sadly the DICE that made BF1 is no more (literally, they largely left after BFV and the devs we have now are mostly new employees).

A PC player got me into it on series x. I downloaded it for free on game pass. Just make sure you get cooling fan to pull out the hot air because it's gonna burn hot.

My biggest issue same with BF5 was it didn’t feel like war. Way too open and clean LIKE how. BF1 had the best atmosphere and made you feel you were in battle. Not 5 & 2042

I am a BF player. I love 2042. if it would have launch like this things would have been much different. I do find a tons of wasted potential but they had to play catch up for 2 years. I personally love the gunplay and the maps now. I like the gameplay of combined arms on big maps. I have a blast playing it. I understand the negativity toward it but in terms of fun... I had and still have a lot. There is still nothing like it on the market. Cod, xdefiant, Hell let loose...you name it.. I always go back to the BF experience.

Great video, I personally think 2042 is a great game though I also adore BFV which is also in good shape for player numbers. It's a lot of fun, especially since Season 3-4 when we got at least a few much needed maps, new vehicles and other additions. You know I actually like the Specialist equipment (not the skins and voice lines), the Riot Shield and Wing Suit are good fun. It's a long way to the next BF title, and if we're honest? 2042 is not nearly as bad as ppl make out. All that said, BFV people -- it's a great game!

I’m convinced that if someone has an issue with this game then they either haven’t played it or are one of those weirdos that’s mad about EA for some reason or another. Sure the launch was rough but it’s easily one of the best shooters currently available. People say it’s too wide open even tho that’s never been an issue for me but I also cross entire wide open areas while using smoke for cover. Idk, it requires a brain sometimes 🤷🏼‍♂️

"rough" is understatement. It was an absolute fiasco at launch. DICE do this every game, terrible at launch and expensive af, then after 2-3 years of updates and dlc, it becomes dirt cheap and in much better state. But this was different.

There is no justification for how awful this game looks. Visually it genuinely looks like Battlefield Bad Company 2 with mods… Looking at Battlefield 1 or Battlefield V compared to THIS game is like Night and Day…. Regardless of how much they have improved the game, it still visually looks like an Xbox 360 game.

Bro, I have been playing BF since BF: Vietnam in 2003, and I can't say a single fucking good thing about BF1, BF5, or 2042. DICE is dead. People make cool clips, but those are the hardcore dedicated players. BF4 was the last great BF and Hardline was the last playable one. All the people who made BF what it used to be are gone or retired. It's not worth coming back. The game was dead on arrival and has stayed dead.

Paid 11 dollars for it yesterday and already regret it 100%. I had 1 ok match, not even decent, and every single match since has been just a meat grinder, and I'm always I put on the team that's getting stomped, half my shots don't seem to register even with a hit marker, so most of the time I shoot first and still die first, medics for some reason simply refuse to revive I have no idea why. I dead ass want my 11 dollars back, this games is that bad.

Great video but you didnt even mention the battlefield portals! I think it's incredibly arguable that the battlefield portals were a huge selling point and a great example of EA'a butter fingers dropping the ball. The idea of having maps from every battlefield in one battlefield is huge! And idk the behind the scenes server side settings but depend on the portal server you join, the game does a great job of recreating the older games classe's weapons and gameplay.

The fact that they only added a map or two from each age of battlefield they added in portal makes it more nostalgia bate but if the concept haven't been kneecaped then it would've been worth the money. Every cod and every battlefield could arguably be a major updated version of the previous release, if we were able to have all of the maps in one game under one 60 dollar, now 70 dollar purchase, you can't tell me that wouldn't be the best platform for the game possible.

Nope, don't like it. BF4 with hardcore mode is the best ever made. BF2042 is just meh. The sound problems and the game not working well with Discord is what made me uninstall. Did not like the mechanics either, felt off. Been playing BF games since BF1942 and I really hope someone else then EA make the next one.

Bf2042 imo was never a horrible game it was just “different “ and futuristic . Yes I hated how guns had zero recoil ….but when I picture weapons in the future I picture them behaving the same way. The game has plenty of destruction ppl just want “everything” to be fully destructible and tbh they never had that in other bf games . Specialists weren’t a bad idea it’s just that everybody could use “ all” weapons so there wasn’t any individuality with players . There weren’t any class specific weaponry and I feel that’s what kinda hurt the specialists idea. Vehicle combat was amazing I just wish there was naval combat /water maps. Graphics were excellent Sound design was top tier Maps were great Game honestly was a solid 7.5/10 for me

BF2042 has been a good game for the last couple of years. I don't care for the specialists, and there are a few maps that I don't enjoy all that much, but overall I've had way more fun on 2042 than I did on BFV and BF1. People are always saying it's a dead game, but I get full 128 players CQ servers every time I boot it up(at least where I live in the Central US). You said they scrapped the specialists and returned to a class based system, which I partially disagree with. All the specialists still have their unique hero abilities, they just put specialists into class categories and restricted which tools they could use. Like medic specialists no longer being able to carry launchers. They kind of tried to do a middle ground between what they had at launch and what people actually wanted.

By watching this video, all I saw is a pure boredom. That's it even tho it's 5$ rn on steam I am not gonna buy. I will stick to BF V. I don't know what the hell they were thinking. 2042 is such a drawback compared to BF 1 and BF V, graphics, immersive gameplay. Like it cannot compare to scenes that those two games have. Sometimes if you play on Hardcore servers you feel like you are in a movie. Don't get me wrong I do not hate on Modern warfare Battlefield, whatsoever I love BF 4 and BF 3, but 2042 nah I am good.
