They always say, “don’t make your hobby a career”. This guy did it and he looks happy, which looks great.

They also say “do what you live and never work a day in your life”. He is happy and that’s after many years of doing it. There are so many different trades and they are all potentially very enjoyable for the right person. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. We always love to hear from our viewers. Good luck out there.

Thank you, as a entry level automotive technician myself I’d rather be in the motorcycle industry because it’s more aligned with my passions. This raw information from educated professionals is very rare and I appreciate it. Working on motorcycles is like an itch I need to scratch, so if you have contacts around Denver send me their way🙏👍

We are glad to help! Sometimes we think we’re not doing the right thing or getting the right information out there……then we hear from people like yourself and it let’s us know we might be doing something right 😉. We definitely understand the itch that needs to be scratched and wish the best for you. We’ll see what we can do in Denver. Keep fighting, we’re with you!

Another thing to consider in this industry is fewer jobs available compared to automotive. Also think about your career path. What do you do after working several years as a motorcycle mechanic at a dealership? Where do you go from there? Service manager or start your own shop? There aren't a lot of options. I have seen a few job ads over the years for motorcycle mechanics doing more fleet type work, but there aren't very many job openings like that. Also in the automotive repair world you have third party certification such as ASE to prove your abilities. There is nothing like that for motorcycle mechanics, and you only have manufacturer certification.

Thanks for watching and for commenting. Excellent points made! Those are definitely things a person should look at when considering a career in this industry. There are unfortunately less options it seems for motorcycle technicians vs automotive. At the end of the day, one might want to consider adding it to existing automotive training to make yourself more valuable as an employee or heading the way of entrepreneur and starting your own shop. Thanks again for commenting and giving our viewers more to think about. Take care out there.

@SoGoWoWo2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the comment. Change can be very scary but also necessary in life. Look at it this way, the first part is scary but in a year from now you’ll be wondering why you were scared in the first place. In a year from now you’ll be comfortable in your new role and excited about what’s happening day to day. The initial part is the hard part. After that you’ll be doing what you love and won’t even remember being scared. Try to think about where you’ll be instead of the immediate. We highly encourage you to try if this is something you love. Thanks again and take care out there! Keep us posted on your progress too, we always love to hear back from our viewers.

Hey thanks for the video! Is there a specific apprenticeship program you recommend? I didn’t know Motorcyle mechanics could obtain journeyman licenses
@SoGoWoWo3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the great question. In Canada there are definitely apprenticeship programs in most provinces and it appears there are many choices in the US as well. I know Harley-Davidson has one for sure. KTM and BMW also offer these. You’ll have to do a little research and see what direction you want to go but they’re definitely out there. Thanks again and stay safe out there!

I'm really interested in going to school for motorcycle repair, but have no schools close to me. Should I do a online school?
@SoGoWoWo Жыл бұрын
Thank you bet much for your comment & question. It would be our advise to try and go to a school that has hands on experience. There’s really no substitute for that - online or otherwise. Whereabouts are you? What State or Province?

@@robbysmith4166 Hi Robby. Our apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Found this for your great state of Tennessee. www.automechanicschooledu.org/tennessee-motorcycle-mechanic/ Have a look, there's some great advice & links to schools there. If you can't find a school reasonably close to you, there are courses online that you can also do some work experience which will really help your chances of being hired. Good luck to you sir & Keep us posted on your progress. We always love hearing success stories from our viewers!

So can just anyone with no experience become an apprentice and start learning on the job? I just turned 50 have been riding my whole life and I have wrenched on my bikes over the years, nothing major like an engine teardown but I have changed, suspension done a bit of electric work, swapped out exhaust systems and of course the regular maintenance on my bikes. I'm thinking of a career change from the IT field.
@SoGoWoWo5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the great question! As far as I know, you can apply at any age. The caveat is that it may be more difficult as we get older because the shop might shy away due to the fact of the longevity of your employment. IE - how long would you stay working for them after they trained you? If however it's something you've been wanting to pursue for a long time and want to continue for many more years, I don't see why it would be an issue. Some of the positives of hiring yourself would be: probably not partying anymore and not showing up late. Will do what is needed to be done and will work hard. Will be doing it because you genuinely want to be there and not trying to "figure out" life. There are many advantages to apprenticing as an older apprentice as well. Not to mention your life experience and IT background would come in very handy with diagnosing issues. If it's something you want to pursue - we say go for it! Life is short and we only get one kick at it so enjoy and try different things! Thanks again for the great question and stay safe out there!
