'Cause I had definitely assumed the conclusion of that was her deciding that she did want to spend time being with her family, but that there probably was also another version of Beth living that other life that she could check on in and learn about, so she can spend her time with those she loves but doesn't actually have to worry about wondering what could've been because there's someone else already filling that role too.

TLDR; A diagnosed Narc rants about ableist, Narcissists aren't evil, but what we choose to do and say is important to criticize. Narcissism is not an inherent lack of empathy (There are those of us with decent or only slightly inhibited empathy), on top of this we can be self aware. Potentially through a diagnosis, or maybe just in moments where we are more in touch with out shame than our grandiosity, those things being the core of narcissism. A lack of empathy can be observed in any egotypical and neurotypical person, it doesn't make them narcissists or even narcissistic. I've met several egotypicals who were the furthest thing from a narcissist who still struggled with understanding the feelings of others and the impacts they had. While I always love your content (I'm binging now and will continue) I do think that equating Beth's narcissistic tendencies with her evilness (of sorts) is a slightly ableist take. Beth isn't evil because she lacks the ability to truly feel for her family, she isn't evil for desiring a constant independence and the perfect image in her father's eyes, she's evil for the way she chooses to react to those feelings and treat the people around her. To anyone currently seeking treatment for NPD, or who could suspect you are struggling with something similar, remember you are loved and you will find out what's bugging you.

I wonder if I am "too smart for my own good". Throughout my K-12 schooling (and even before then) I was treated as if I was a liability due to the fact that I am autistic and because I didn't start speaking by the time I was two and a half (I managed to speak shortly before I turned four due to taking speech therapy). I had to attend two different preschools. The first one was when I was three and a half (so a year before most children start preschool). I was also stuffed into recourse classes which is a type of special education class. Once I was about 7 or 8 years old, I started to notice that I was treated differently from my brother and sister when it came to school. They never had to attend special education classes. In fact, sometimes they attended advanced classes whereas I was put in classes people would deem are for people who have lower than average IQ levels. There was one summer where I had to attend some reading program that was across the street from a park. I had to do academic work while my brother and sister got to play in the park. I don't know why the adults in this situation didn't see how screwed up this setup was. In 3rd grade, my homeroom teacher (and I assume the non-academic class teachers I had) had to wear a microphone on their blouse while I wore headphones that played whatever was being spoken into the microphone. The school's solution was that this would help me pay attention better. I would assume this is undiagnosed ADHD as I had a horrendous time paying attention and sometimes still do, but the main thing teachers fixated on with me was autism. By 4th grade, the headphones were traded for a speaker that was installed in the front of the room that would loudly play out what was being spoken into the microphone. I get the feeling the school system did not like having to give me all of these accommodations and that they refused to allow me out of recourse classes since my mom would beg me to be home-schooled or attend an alternative school designed for neurodivergent students. I refused because I wanted a traditional school experience, even though the other options (well more likely the alternative school as I honestly feel homeschooling would not have been the best thing for me socially and education-wise) probably would have helped me comprehend better and learn more material than I already know now. I also had an IEP. Sometimes, I had to attend the IEP meetings and sit through the school staff to talk about the pros and cons of myself and how they would compare and contrast me to "regular" students. As a result, not only do I compare myself to other people, but I sometimes legitimately wonder if I have a lower-than-average IQ. It's been getting worse lately to the point where I start to think I have conditions that I obviously don't have like Downs Syndrome or Cornelia De Lange Syndrome. Much of this has to do with me having hyper-empathy. I constantly hear about how people hate disabled people and how they think it's a good thing when disabled people are killed (even in gruesome ways) because they view disabled people as a burden to the government. It does not help that I have noticed an increase in people devaluing disabled people compared to typically developing people. It's honestly making be feel unsafe and as if I would be left for dead if I were in a dangerous situation simply for being autistic. With all of this said, I have to wonder if me constantly worrying and dwelling over this stuff is me being "too smart for my own good".
@seasonsstarsstudios4 ай бұрын
This is absolutely true. A lot of autistic people are in your shoes, myself included, but what helped me learn my worth was writing. Maybe this isn’t your avenue of talent, but finding something you’re good at and love at the same time really helps you understand how valuable you are as a person. Your hyper-empathy makes you think you’re the problem, but the truth is you’re so far ahead of normies they’re threatened and they hold you back, scapegoating disabled people to have a mere attempt at betterment. Hey. I just want to tell you. You’re awesome. Keep being awesome. And ignore those shitty normies. They know how inferior they are, how boring, stupid, selfish, and narcissistic they are. You are valid, you are loved, and you deserve the world. If no one else loves you in the world, I do. If no one else values you, I will. Because you are awesome.
