I want to preface this by saying that I don't necessarily consider myself part of the Beyhive and maybe up until last year I've only been a casual listener to Beyoncé. I also don't really like using the Grammy's as a point of validation because they prove themselves to be biased every year. Coming from a place of non-bias, I do feel like people genuinely dislike her for sport. Though there may be valid reasons to dislike her music or style or what have you, it's also true that people are adamant about disliking her BECAUSE of how popular she is on a global scale. Her not winning album of the year in any of the times she has been nominated isn't about fans whining, but how the Grammys have always had issues with letting Black nominees win "too much". The fact that someone genuinely said "I didn't vote on her because she always wins" is very telling. You can win best in R&B, best in hip hop all you want, but when it comes to a *major* category? Absolutely not. Even if you don't feel like Beyoncé should have won it, you can at least acknowledge that only 11 Black people winning AOTY in all of Grammy's history is very suspicious. Even though I personally don't like taking the Grammys seriously, I still don't see it fair to invalidate the feelings of people who do.
