I’ve got about 700 hours in, and there’s still so much to learn it’s insane. One new thing I’ve learned recently is in the ocean, our boats or ship….they drift! I jump out of my ship in some floating debris to fish. It was a serene moment. And after about 20 mins, I was just checking out the scenery and was like..”oh look, someone ship is incoming…..wait….that’s my ship!” It had drifted away and now I had to swim in a monster infested waters to my boat, hoping I wouldn’t lose stamina and drown, lol. That’s some realistic features right there.

Almost got 2k hours into that game, been doing some ocean content here and there recently, the first time I was out on my ship (just getting knowledge from the islands around the main one) the weather changed and was starting to look quite dark, it started raining, storming with lightning.. I just sat there and looked at it for like 15 mins and was like "woah, how pretty" not gonna lie, i do that sometimes here and there when I want to take a break. Game is so beautiful, the developers did such a good job on it it's crazy, sadly all the different kind of "walls" you gotta go through to get into some pvp (unless capped) but, it is what it is.

Just a clarification on questing: certain gear progression (fallen god armor) requires main story questing for certain regions. Fallen God armor requires O'dyllita, Labreska's Helmet requires Mountain of Eternal Winter, Dahn's Gloves requires Land of the Morning Light, etc. Also, certain cities' NPCs don't become available to use (e.g. storage keeper in O'draxxia) until you do the related main story questline up to a certain point.
@thecaptain17599 ай бұрын
I got my fallen god and labreska both without doing any quests. I only just recently did all the story quests last week to be able to get all the free AP/DP from logs and shit
@M-_-O9 ай бұрын
Eventually every one should do the whole story once to unlock a lot of things. Such as: the ability for future season characters to skip the quest line, crystal slots, increase in default enhancement chance from 0 to +5, more storage space, extra power (AP, DP, Stamina etc), systems like gathering mini game (increase by x10), unlocking the fast travel and connected storage with the Magnus, and on and on. Do all the “main quests” at least once on your account. You will come upon a few blocks that require it eventually.

I started playing this game as a Guardian, as it seemed a very easy and relaxed PvE option. I played the season, only hit 60, and then decided to start a life-skilling Shai as a side-character/break. 2-3 years later, my Shai is closing in on level 62, all of that XP has come from LS, and I'm consistently in the top 5 on my server for multiple lifeskills. The freedom this game gives is awesome! Follow the story? (only recently started LotML). As for PvP, my shai has been killed once, whilst fishing, just outside of the safezone(which I didn't realise at the time). My guild at the time saw my death spam, and swiftly punished the offender! 11/10 - would die fishing on the beach again! Thanks for yet another great video EvilDoUsHarm!

The first 3 years that I played I spent $0 That being said it is much more of a grind. Pearl does give you upgrades from time to time I never used them and have been playing with the Value packs that is the only one that I normally keep active. Mainly because it increases the amount of silver you make on the market. When I first started playing the combat system was very hard for me to understand coming from WOW, over time I did learn to use the rotations and set up combos that I have satanized so that most of my classes play much in the same patterns. it is not the most effective play but it does work most of the time. Adding classes does improve the game but focus on one class for a main is best in my opinion. You do get perks from having alts but you do not have to actively play them. I have use many of my alts for Life skills but Pearl did announce these will become family and not per character base at some point. I mostly AFK train Horses myself now more than anything, But I did play in a PVP guild at one point and it is a much different game with War and nodes it can be a very busy process. On some servers it was very intense I am just to slow for that type of Game these days.

Either way the avg price of the item won’t change. And it will still be rng. If you find it too frustrating to see your gear downgrade or break you should really just buy everything. My biggest gripe with BDO is same as always since the game launched. Gear downgrading/destruction is not something im a fan of. Id rather have a low chance to farm a boss or area for a guaranteed upgrade than play the slot simulator on upgrading. People that are luckier than you just have slightly to greatly increased gear than you and that makes me feel like "skill" doesnt matter in this game like I feel it should.

Reflecting on my years with Black Desert Online, I feel it's necessary to issue a caution for those considering the game in 2024. My main concern lies with the Game Masters' performance in customer support. It appears they lack the necessary tools to effectively investigate and resolve issues related to in-game bugs, missing items, and other player grievances. Despite being the frontline responders to support tickets, their ability to assist feels inadequate, bordering on ineffectual. This situation has significantly impacted the overall game experience, suggesting a disconnect between player needs and the support structure in place. My advice is not just a parting word but a warning: potential players should weigh these considerations heavily. There's a critical need for a systemic overhaul of the support team to ensure Black Desert Online can live up to its potential and deliver the immersive, engaging experience it promises.

I’m thinking about trying the game again. I played several years ago when Kakao was still running the show. I remember the reason I got burned out and quit was once I realized that no matter how much I played, it would take me literal years to catch up to anyone with my gear to not basically get 1 shotted in PvP. And there was a pretty strong elitist attitude of those who’d been playing for years already about that. They wouldn’t hesitate to just one shot you and grief you out in the open world. Is all of that still the case?

I'm a new player that watched a lot of videos yours included and ended up not sticking with the game after giving it a fair shake for about a month, my main problem is I don't see a real reason to upgrade my gear, I can't feel myself get significantly stronger with each item as I can't see the damage numbers go up or boss timers get shorter, this makes gearing for me feel pointless, if they add some form of metric or real goal you can FEEL, I'll def return as the combat and visuals are amazing, but currently not worth for me to grind for 200 hours to buy upgrades that I don't feel as satisfying or worth it
@cryze09659 ай бұрын
Understandable. Especially if you aren’t interested in pvp, where you will feel that gear matters a lot. They will make the new boss shrine fights c8-10 based on your own gear. So there you will see some timers go down with more gear. But that’s obviously a small part of the game. Other than that you can watch your trashloot go up with more gear but that is obviously not the same satisfaction.
@blackbeard58869 ай бұрын
Yeah, darkshrine is relatively small but if atleast they made something like scoring highly in your class on like c5+ would add 10% to your next attempt of enhancing a item to mitigate the awful enhancing system, that would motivate me to clear higher tier bosses so I can upgrade the gear so i can clear higher bosses@@cryze0965

To help on a more complex note - black desert features diminishing returns on gear based on the game world location you're in. It's not well discussed in game, and you have to dig around outside of it to find it. (this is actually on my list of videos to make ha!). An increase in stats of 20% may only yield 5% improvement at one location, or over 100% improvement at another. As you said, with damage numbers not showing up on top of this system, sometimes it can be hard to feel any real changes.
@blackbeard58869 ай бұрын
Yeah I get that, but honestly progressing to higher zones to make more money is a given in practically any game, I was talking more like if Darkshrine bosses awarded you with say 10% chance extra to upgrade your next gear piece, the higher the boss the more chance it gives so I'd atleast have incentive to get stronger to clear higher difficulties as it will improve my gear rather than making more money, even that would be enough for me to consider gearing as more satisfying@@EvilDoUsHarm

It's pretty fun for a bit. I went back around Christmas. I just can't stand the enhancement system. I never could. It completely puts me off the game.

Only thing Im missing from this game is roleplaying. The playerbase isnt really into it. Other than that.. imo the best MMO out there, if you're okay with spending small amounts of money from time to time. Less for real p2w progress but more for stuff that will make your life easier, like a tent. I make sure I have the value pack active and I sometimes spend on outfits so I can take full advantage of the great character customization. Do not start spending money just to get silver or crones or anything.. that can turn ugly real fast.
@MrQwertyman1119 ай бұрын
Well, as far as the playerbase is concerned? The general chats are rather... some would say toxic, but that's not really true. There's a lot of game specific humour floating around along with a healthy number of trolls across the board. So yeah, it'll be easier for you to get convinced to cross the ocean in a rowboat than roleplaying anything 😉 Fully agree on the spending part: the game is so massive and systems require you so much in-game money and resources, that p2w is not a real issue in BDO. Yes, the mentioned tent is a purchasable item that has the same functions as a tent you can get in-game but doesn't rquire any maintenance on your end, but at the end of the day it's makes your playing experience more pleasurable. Do you have to buy those things? No. I got my tent after about 2 years when I decided that I've spent enough time in the game to see the benefit of having the damn thing. But there are TONS of people who never bought anything in-game for real cash, and they're having as much fun as I am, if not more.

@@MrQwertyman111 General chat is pretty generic for an MMO of this size. Not bad, not great, people will help you out, no matter how dumb your question might be and its rare that somebody will be called out or attacked. The lack of roleplaying is probably because the whole system is pretty complicated, it takes a lot of planning and working to get where you want to be.. so it feels more like a "business" and less like an adventure. Its hard to explain. Its a blessing and a curse. I love working towards a goal, crafting my own Fallen Gods Armor and upgrading it was soooo satisfying, much more fun than just grinding and buying it.. but it felt like a project from work and less like a fantasy adventure ^^ Thats where BDO could be better and thats where I hope they'll be going with Crimson Desert. But even without that.. this game is still a solid 8,5/10, which is as good as any MMO right now.
@VendettaSoundtracks9 ай бұрын
Like with many MMO communities, roleplaying is generally done "under-the-hood" within dedicated guilds. It's also harder to roleplay in BDO given how each class is an already established character within the lore (with their own backstories, etc.) and the weapon/ability restrictions mean that you really can only play into the lore that's already there.
@EvilDoUsHarm9 ай бұрын
For the roleplay aspect - I think the closest they got to making it doable was the trade rework that just got un-done. You would have to read the newspaper in game, interact with villagers, and more to get leads on price changes, then purchase and perform the trades after to make money. It was a cool idea, but didn't seem to do much for the skill as a whole. With that system you could truly role-play as a merchant.

You seem to be on PC. Would you play it on PS5? If I'm wrong about the PC what platform you using?
@EvilDoUsHarm9 ай бұрын
Console version is about 2 years behind pc, and generally inferior. If you can play on pc, play on pc. If you're a console only gamer, I would say it's middle of the pack - not great not bad.

Yeah I'm downloading on pc now. I just prefer ps5 as then maybe the kid would play also. One day... maybe they'll get there!

If you quit the game for a year or two then this game is kinda hard to come back to... even if you really want to come back and spend like a few weeks trying to understand what's new and what you need to do to catch up... it will still be super confusing and most of the time its gonna feel like you're not doing any progress at all xd and add the current limited time event thats running and boom *uninstalls again*. This was the case for me and a few of my friends that came back but now were kinda catching up after a few months since we didn't give up and uninstall xd

When I played BDO, I always appreciated your content. My own personal 2 cents is that there just isn't enough to keep me around. Once you reach 60+, your progression becomes severely halted by that upgrade system. Spending 200+ hours trying to get 1 item to drop for Unlimited Potions is also not my idea of a good time. The Cash Shop certainly has a lot of pretty things, but the pricing could be significantly better. Especially the "monthly" bonuses you NEED if you're going to make meaningful gains as you play. All in all, I do not feel the gameplay itself values my time. I got Scholar to 61... enjoyed it... was fun. Then there was just nothing that actually interested me. And I actually REALLY love the combat in this game. I personally feel the "Seasons" progression should be the BASELINE progression of the game. Then it would really value the time and effort you actually put into the game beyond level 60. I will say, this game has improved significantly since Pearl Abyss took over... unfortunately for me personally, it's just not enough to keep me playing it right now.

I kinda wanted to get into this game with a friend of mine, but after some research i learned that in this game you grind to level up.. so u can grind on higher lever zones.. so u can get to max level.. and then grind at max level zones. Theres no real content to do other than pvp. All you do is brainlessly grind mobs all the way through It's a shame too because the gameplay/combat and 27(!) classes look amazing
@kinotsu30179 ай бұрын
Grinding IS the content lol, definitely not for everyone but I enjoy mindlessly killing things because I grew up playing games like Dynasty Warriors where you just kill 1000's of enemies over and over with different characters.
@CristiNeagu9 ай бұрын
Levelling from 58-61 is fastest with quests. Also, no one is stopping you from actually going through the storyline. There's A LOT of story to go through, tons of intrigue and plot twists. The only thing locking you into grinding and out of the rest of the content is you.

It's a bit sad that even at this point in 2024 they still have a lot of p2w and sometimes you feel like you are locked out of some QOL and some features..They need to remove the crystal breaking!

yeah really wish they would simplify the gear upgrades, or make it clearer on where to get supporting upgrade items. game suffers from way too many items syndrome, have to read a dictionary to know what you're doing.

BDO currently is a game that tries to appeal to newbies and PvE players without substantial PvE content aside from 3 dungeons and a lacklustre Boss rush. If you're thinking about end game stuff forget about it. It's just grinding a bit faster as your gear up. Once you reach hard cap. There's nothing to do since most PvP content nowadays is capped meaning your gears almost doesn't matter and the removal of one sided guild war declarations killed open-world PvP. Castles are mostly controlled and rotated by a single big alliance. Node wars are just zergfest. Arsha is just another grinding channel with additional drop rate. If you like having 3 dungeons and 5 boss rush per week, Good luck. If you like PvP, this game died a long time ago.
@maltimoto6 ай бұрын
My idea would be to play just one season, play some quests and move on. Because the grind for endgame (whatever that is) is just too much.
