Olivia and Nathan here!
We took the 2.5 hour train ride from Budapest to Bratislava. To be honest, we almost skipped Slovakia completely, but we decided to check out for 24 hours. A lot of fellow travelers staying in Vienna or Budapest asked us, is it worth visiting?

came from USA and have now lived in Bratislava since 2014 and it is now my home and I still can't eat Bryndza cheese but usually those restaurants in the center don't have the real deal stuff that you get from the little stands in the villages.

you are right. Locals usually go to small towns/villages around Bratislava to enjoy these dishes and products. I hope you are enjoying your life in Bratislava. I only spent 6 months working there but I think it's a great place to live, especially with those endless outdoor activities in and around the city. There isn't a lot to see for tourists but it's a great place for people who live there.

Where did you get the number of visitors in Budapest???? :D :D :D 30 million??? Are you serious? The most visited european city Paris had 17,5 million visitors in 2017 and the most visited city of the world was Bangkok with 20 million in 2017...... Can you imagine Budapest with 30 million? The real numbers of central european cities in 2017 were: Prague 6,55 million, Budapest 5,65 million, Vienna 5,55 million and Bratislava 1,1 million..... Bratislava is the smallest of all these cities with population of 500 000....

Hey there, thank you for visiting Slovakia! About the food, you guys just combined the most fatty things together that nobody eats like that. 😂Usually, you either just have those njoki with sheep cheese on their own, with kefir (or beer) afterwards, or, if you decide to eat that fried cheese with fries you eat that on its own with some salad. Also, to have the creamy soup before all that is a killer! You can also ask for those njoki without the fried fat on top, I think its better without it personally. My mom just adds a bit of dill to it and no fat. But, at least you tried the taste of all that, and you will know for the future what to avoid! 😃

Food is heavy because our country is all hills and it have only some plains but it's like small amount of them in our history there wasn't too many options on how to get energy for whole day working on field and most common animal was like sheep or goat, so that's mostly why we have such an heavy food.

The old town is small because most of it was torn down by commies when they decided to build the UFO bridge. There was a big Jewish quarter under the castle but it was all demolished because of that bridge. Bratislava is an old city, it wasn't built 30 years ago when Slovakia become independent.

@@Phobos_Nyx I never said Bratislava is not old. It was an important city for centuries. But not a big one. In the beginning of the 19th century it had a population of ca. 30 thousand. The old town fits well that number.
