Unfortunately that's just how it works. Seattle is a tiny market. If Witherspoon was on, say, the Giants or the Steelers, he would've gotten 3 times the publicity as a rookie.

They didn't invite a single OLineman iirc, and there were FOUR taken before Murphy, including TWO guys in the TOP TEN (one in the top 5). I don't see it as disrespect at all. They invited "face" players. OL and DT aren't those guys. Hell, they invited Pratt, Rattler, and Milton lol! Joe Alt should have a bigger beef at this than Murphy. Cool if Murphy uses this as fuel, but does it actually mean anything? Nope.

When asked by an interviewer if there is a place he woulodn't want to be drafted, Byron said he hated cold weather and doesn't want to go to Indianapolis. For the NFL, that attitude is reminiscent to Mrshawn Lynch and it is not what their brand wants to showcase. I love the personality and hearing honesty from a guy. I feel like this guy is smart enough and has the physical tools to be special. Let's just watch and see. None of us can predict the future.

Couldn't have said it better. The award is not called "most value over replacement or next best at the position". Joe Alt could be the most "valuable" offensive rookie to his team, but he's not winning any award. If Byron Murphy gets 25 tackles and 3 sacks and misses less than 12% of his tackle opportunities, I'm calling that a good rookie year. If Latu gets 25 tackles and 3 sacks, he'll be called a disappointment. On another note, at some point we need to have a serious thought about why we're paying a guy $18M to come off the bench (if you're correct about Murphy starting).

Even if he gets 20 sacks, he won't win DROY. Woolen had the most ints, pbs, less receiving yards given up, and the fewer TD's given up and still didn't win DROY! It's doesn't matter what any of the players do! They'll ALWAYS be overlooked, and it's BS! K9 should have won OROY 3 years ago, Woolen DROY 2 years ago, and Witherspoon DROY last year! And it's not even close. They should have won those awards easily, the numbers NEVER lie!

It’s also disrespect to the DT position which really gets no glory going off of stats. All the players they have picked most likely for DROY are all edge players which is much easier to get a sack. Theres no stats covering taking on double and triple teams clogging up the center on runs.

McDonald had a DT last year with double digit sacks. Murphy was a higher graded player coming out of college. Murphy on McDonalds defense will kill this year

I think it’s a combination of him being in a position that gets disrespected and being on a team that gets disrespected. For all the great drafts, JS never won GMOTY. For the teams that were supposed to be bad but we’re playoff teams, PC never won COTY. All of Wilson’s great years he never got a single MVP vote. I think however, due to PFF, we might have a chance. Sauce won DROY due to PFF because otherwise people would have seen more INTs, less targets and Woolen would be DROY. Jalen Carter was DROY for most of the season due to PFF. Anderson had to have a better team and better stats to overcome that. So if PFF rates him really highly and we take the nfl by surprise and end up with a 12ish win total somehow I can see him winning. But hey, I hope he keeps getting a chip on his shoulder. If it motivates him to destroy run games and destroy QBs then I’m all for it.
