K-Mart was rehabbing from double micro fracture knee surgery. The year Billups was there they came within a game and shots of the finals despite getting robbed by refs not giving extra time to the lakers and not calling fouls when they were clearly intentionally fouling. You want to blame Melo for teammates getting hurt? You can. But it's really stupid.

Btw lin was my favorite player at the time, mostly cause he was asian like myself, and I admit melo was jealous of linsanity, but I put together what Chauncey Billups said, if melo was not the number 1 option on a team, he felt like he wasnt doing his job. As a big, lifelong Knicks fan, thank you for this video. His years here were very dark for us true Knicks fans - to have a guy who chooses themselves over the team winning is tough to watch for so many years. Will never forgive him, his decisions, or the Knicks FO for not only bringing him in by trading actual assets (instead of waiting for FA), but for giving him an extension. If Melo had not been on the Knicks, they at least would've stood a chance to build around a good, solid core, rather than a guy who provided nothing outside of inefficient, volume scoring.

Based on what Mike said, all of that selfishness that Carmelo inured literally makes me so mad. What a horrible teammate, I’m glad he doesn’t have a ring and he also doesn’t deserve one for his selfishness. He talks a lot--most people full of shit do. He can score--I won't dispute that, he just can't play on a team and make that team better in ways that get them to the finals. Never has, never will. Okc doesn't even have an offense it's just Westbrook playing ballistic ball and if he can't score he passes out. He has made the a team better the nuggets were 17-65 when got drafted turned them 43-39 a playoff team and never missed the playoffs while there. LeBron missed the playoffs his first two years but is considered complete...

I’m no Carmelo fan but I wouldn’t say he’s the most overrated player in nba history. He’s averaged at least 20ppg in 14 seasons and averages 24 ppg on his career. He’s currently #19 on the all time scoring list and by the end of his career he should be in the top #10 overall he’s one of the greatest offensive players of all time. A lot of people call him a bum now because he is a ball hog and a bad teammate. No one is saying he’s a great player anymore so I don’t so how he is the MOST overrated in nba history. Melo forced the trade to NY because there was going to be a lockout and players weren't sure if they would be able to get paid as much as they currently were, so he forced the trade and signed an extension. It also isn't Melo's fault that the Knicks failed to put talent around him. Phil Jackson traded Tyson chandler for Dalembert and Shane Larkin, Novak and a lottery pick for Bargiani, Jr smith and Shumpert for Cole Aldrich, THJ for Jerian Grant, He signed Joakim Noah to a 4 YEAR 72 million dollar deal, he failed to sign any good free agents. The only good players Melo played with were chandler and Stat on the decline of their careers. By the time KP became a star, Phil Jackson was already bashing on Melo and kicking him out of NY. Sure, Melo was selfish on the court at times and did have a huge contract, but he committed to New York for 5 years and the Knicks failed to give him a team capable of winning a playoff series.

I think overrated was the wrong word. More like, he's been a disappointment. He should have achieved more in terms of playoff depth and championships. He has great stats, but like you said, stats don't always tell the story. Some guys are just stat machines, some guys are just savvy winners. Look at guys like Bruce Bowen or Robert Horry. Not the best individual talents, but they find ways to be winners and contribute. Melo's just maybe a different kind of player. Exciting and a pure scorer, but maybe not someone who just figures out how to win no matter what. I might get hated on it but Iverson was maybe similar in some aspects. Or Marbury. It's okay. The league needs them all.

@Christopher Palmer I'd disagree. Those two guys were playing crucial roles to their teams. A scorer is a crucial role too. Just a quick note, calling the two all nba teams the top 10 players in the league isn’t true because one position can be extremely competitive and a great player won’t make the 1st and 2nd team just cuz the 2 ahead of him are top 5 players, while there can simultaneously be a very weak position where a player gets into one of the top two teams without being a top 10 player, just a top player in his position

If you take out his rookie season (most rookies aren’t great in playoffs) and this past year 2017-2018 (when he’s 34 and washed up), his playoff scoring actually goes up from those regular seasons. From 2004-05 to 2012-13 which are the years he made the playoffs he averaged 25.5 ppg and 6.4 rpg in the regular season, and in those years in the playoffs he averaged 26.3 ppg and 7.2 rpg

I don't usually post youtube comments to just talk shit about or to people -- but Melo is the one exception -- for him I do it regularly. I watched him ruin the Denver Nuggets for years while everyone told me I didn't know what I was looking at--everyone told me he just needed some 'help'--no, he needed to learn how to play the game--or at least he needed to play the game right, and he refused. Not only do the advanced stats not lie, neither do your eyes, if you're paying attention. In addition to taking way too many shots always, I would be curious to know how much of the clock he used in getting his points, because that seemed like the most significant aspect of his inefficiency--he scored, but whether he did or didn't he used 15 or more seconds every time he tried. He was a slow scorer. The OKC season was the season anyone who was willing to admit the truth, but hadn't should have seen it. Because he couldn't score like he used to, the rest of his NON-EXISTENT game was exposed. Yet people are still trying to pretend he was 'great'. No, he scored. He scored at the expense of his teams not to their benefit. All you had to do was watch him play, but those stats ain't lying either.

“The real nba super stars put up great numbers and they’re also efficient, that’s why their team wins games”... hmmm, is that why melo throughout his prime years (2005- 2013) had a fg% of .460, and Kevin Durant who everyone agrees is a super star and most consider a top 10 scorer of all time has a career fg% of .490 (not much better), and is that why KOBE BRYANT, who most consider a top 10 player all time and a top 5 scorer all time, throughout his prime years (1999-2012) had a fg% of .455. I flatly agree about melo and HATE how SAS has to go on and on trying to pretend melo is something more than Jamal Crawford without handles...or a shot at this point lol, but yeah not being ALLNBA isnt directly comparable to your rank leaguewide FWIW. But overall obvi agree with vid lol. Oh and I hate how SAS has to wax about how he knows melo and hes sucha great guy... lol then Max is like "cool. but hes washed up"
@Marskidagoat
@Marskidagoat 6 жыл бұрын
Love your vids but disagree with this one 1.Advanced stats obviously play a role in showing how efficient a player is, but if you watch Melo, with his high usage rate, you know he takes a hell of a lot of difficult shots(which is his fault but in some cases was needed, some cases not needed so pretty 50/50) but then as far as helping the team win, no argument there, he slacks when it comes to that. 2.Melo has played on a good-decent team a good amount of years but I argue that there's been more years where his team lost playoff series due to injuries, lack of performance from other teammates, or simply being the worse of the 2 teams, than losing due to lack of his performance, but once again, the point of this argument i agree with is about playing in a winning matter. Melo does have a nick for showing up but not in the way his team needs him to. 3.Even with all the good and bad of Melo, the word overrated is being used lightly in a lot of people's arguments for Melo. I think most Melo fans and NBA fans in general know melos pros and con's. Being OVERRATED is not being a great player with a lot of flaws, being overrated is MAJORITY(50%+) if people ignoring those con's and/or making to big of a deal of the pros which helps ignore the cons. So basically if people believe you're better than you are and also ignore your flaws, I believe you are overrated (once again, only if it is majority). But with Melo, MAJORITY know his pros and con's, what he's good and not good at, if he plays to win, etc. Although I will say, SOME, NOT MAJORITY BUT SOME Melo/NBA fans overrate Melo, but if we're looking at it in the perspective of general ness, then he isn't overrated or close to the most overrated star on history. If there was a wider majority of people who overrated him, now we're talking, but in my opinion, 3/4 of real Melo and NBA/sports fans fairly right Carmelo so for the majority that don't, they cannot cause us to come to the conclusion he is overrated IN GENERAL. So basically from a general standpoint, Melo definitely isn't the most overrated star in NBA history, but he is Overrated by some people. But you can also argue that the Melo haters underrate him just as much as his fans overrate him so if you bring that into the picture, the underrate/overrate balance is pretty neutral with Melo at least to me, so thats another thing but Yeah that's all

You keep bringing up LeBron and stuff.. Alright, let's take LeBron off the Miami Heat and put Melo there, and throughout LeBron's career make his best role player ever.. be JR Smith, and put LeBron in the West. Then compare rings at the end of their careers :) Carmelo took a 17-65 Nuggets team to a 43-39 team his rookie season. But he wasn't given rookie of the year. Funny how these same people that go "LeBron has no help!" when he's standing on a team with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love are the same people that say Melo "isn't a winner" when the best role player he ever had was JR Smith and an old Allen Iverson. While at the same time saying if you bring up his teammates or lack thereof it's just "an excuse.".. You bash Melo saying he doesn't step up in the playoffs, THEN when his team makes the Western Conference Finals you move the goalposts and go "but that was expected..." your bias is showing. Imagine if LeBron's greatest role players he ever had was J.R. Smith and an old Shaquille O'Neal. How many rings does he have? They'd never have gotten past Boston. Ever... LeBron bolted out of Cleveland to escape that kind of situation. Carmelo took the last place Nuggets team to the playoffs his rookie year. I'm of the mindset that if Carmelo is drafted by Detroit, people look at him completely differently. What it does show however is how quick the media turns "loyalty" into 'stupidity/selfishness". Remember when everyone was giving Carmelo props for not leaving for Houston or Chicago a few years ago and staying on the Knicks? Saying he was "built from a different cloth" by staying. Yep.. few seasons later, no progress by the Knicks, suddenly he is "just in it for the money." and "doesn't care about winning." and all that stuff. Just shows how quickly the narrative turns against NBA Players so that the media is never 'wrong', and they ride the way whichever way gets the most attention. This is why that 'loyalty' stuff has gone out the window, and why players that don't care what the media thinks about their decisions win, while the ones that wanna prove their 'loyalty' wind up regretting it. Ask DeMar Derozan who is the latest case of 'loyalty gone wrong'.

Good points but to be fair everyone knows he never really tried on defense for a long time. That’s the main reason his advanced metrics are down. But you also made it seem like he has a bad offensive game. And if you watch the times he’s been in the playoffs he hasn’t really had much help, and was always playing a better team. Prime Carmelo was still a top notch scorer, don’t let the advanced metrics tell the whole story

People love to look at stats and go “ oh well...” No. This man carried a trash team for years and never got any credit. Obviously saved his injury ridden body for offense even though its apparent that he could play defense very well in his prime. If you actually think Carmelo is overrated you either dont like him or dont know basketball. People call him a ballhog as if he wasnt the best player on his team for 85-90% of his career. He can pass well when he chose to, Play decent or better defense, shot well, had dribble moves, post moves.. He literally had to carry an awful knicks team in the time where the NBA was absolutely loaded. Then people gonna bring up true shooting % as if he didnt take more shots than almost every other trash player on his team for YEARS just to keep them in the game.. People are wilddd.
