I was taken to Cha Am by My Thai mother-in-law 12-13 years ago, loved it, yep definitely rough round the edges, certainly not the best beach, but it's Thai, not a watered down version, full of farang bars & restaurants. If you're looking for a modern beach town with 21st century amenities, then go 1/2 an hour further up the road to Hua Hin, but for me Hua Hin is like living in a holiday resort, Cha Am is like living like a local Thai, normal every day to day living. If I'm suggesting a resort to people for a holiday, it certainly ain't gonna be Cha Am, they'd be massively disappointed after travelling 6000 miles. But for me, a perfect retirement destination, so much so we bought a plot of land there & before the know alls say anything, no I don't own the land , my wife does.

You also have jurassic lake about a 20 minute drive from Beach Road, absolute monster carp, if your into your fishing, this is a must visit.

I would've liked to see some of the houses further out, if they're less expensive than that $965 one near the beach. Good channel, I enjoy your videos.

Cha Am is a place I go to every time I take a trip on my bike. Been doing so for 14 years! It is quiet (E/except when the Bangkok people arrives for a weekend) and I just love it. More action?? Then just visit Hua Hin 25 km longer south.

Really like Cha-Am for the reason, theres very few Westerners there...lets keep it that way.

We need the compare / contrast video between Cha-am and Hua Hin (and maybe even Pattaya.) Also, since this is a more locals oriented location than the other two mentioned, how well can someone function in English here?
@asiawithalex6 ай бұрын
For sure. I have comparison vids lined up... and more retirement locations. With tools like Google translate, it's not too difficult to communicate or even read signs and labels

I was there 10 years ago and I thought it very much like a bit of a dump the promenade or concrete walkway into the sea is falling apart it's not surprising when you see the way they built it it's too much of us small place stray dogs everywhere going down the road is Hua Hin a much nicer place

Gets boring fast, same with Hua Hin. Fine for 2-3 months, but after that you turn to drinking heavily and end up marrying a bar girl.

Alex, Thanks for the insightful comments and presentation. It seems a paradise away from the hustle and bustle of larger cities. It is now on my short list. Question: what is considered the low season .when?
@asiawithalex6 ай бұрын
High season for all tourism is Nov - Mar. Cha Am is local Thai focussed, and I read in the BKK post recently that some places (including Cha Am) were struggling with low domestic tourism.

Is it dangerous to rent a motor bike in cha am
@asiawithalex6 ай бұрын
It felt safer than the other places I've ridden
@peterw70126 ай бұрын
Its dangerous to rent a bike anywhere if you don't have a license or know how to ride. Otherwise, no different to anywhere else in Thailand
@2Rugrats95976 ай бұрын
@@peterw7012 I would disagree with that statement because it’s sure different in population and traffic from Bangkok, Phuket and ch am or Chiang Mai

@thailandwithalex Good video. Two questions: 1) Would you say that Cha Am has an insufficient number of baht buses or none? 2) Are the monthly rent prices quoted on most of these condo websites (like FazWaz) typically for a one-year lease?
@asiawithalex6 ай бұрын
Thank you! 1. No baht buses. Zero! Hua Hin has decent coverage. 2. As far as my experience goes, 12 months is the usual. You may be able to negotiate something in person.
