Cheektowaga was the first area I moved to when I came from NYC to go to UB for graphic design and I never left but had to move out when my student apartment got to expensive to live at so I ended up living in Lockport. If I could move back to Cheektowaga I would do it in a heartbeat.

I lived in Cheektowaga since 1976 and liked it very much. I moved recently for personal reasons. I always felt safe there and my neighbors and fellow church members were truly wonderful ❤️

I grew up in S Cheektowaga near French/Union (1989-1998) one street over from the 7-Eleven where that young girl was shot. There's plenty to love about the area, but the crime is absolutely horrible and has only gotten worse. The Garden Village Plaza was amazing back then bringing in a ton of business. It's a shame to see what it's become. Our house was broken into twice, third attempt we were home. Guarentee it was the scumbags that live at the majorly sketchy Garden Village apartments

Great video as always. My favorite parts of Cheektowaga are east of Union and south of Como Park. Also north of the 33 and east of Harlem. Cheektowaga is in transition and you need to be very careful where you choose to live.

"They recently had a big tax hike...." That's not necessarily true. A "big tax hike", would be the tax levy increases significantly. What happened, was the town went to 100% FMV assessments. All properties had increased in value, but, that's not how their reassessments went. It was uneven assessment increases that cause the problem. Look at it this way...if there's a $100M budget, divided amoung properties collectively worth $1B....then the next year, there's a $100M budget, but properties values are now worth $2B, each property should still pay the same amount, if no assessment changes. The increases were lopsided. Even in the same school district, which should be the most comparable, because they are homes in the same general area, and more similar to each other than say comparing homes in SE Cheektowaga to those in the NW part. So, my assessment went up 30% in one year. My school tax bill, went up 20%, including a 2% tax levy increase. If those assessments hadn't changed, everyone would have paid 2% more. The thing that really killed me, was that the town paid an outside firm to come up with the new 100% assessments. There was outrage the first year. THEN, the NEXT year, in wanting to keep with 100% assessments, there was again outrage, because (many) assessments went up AGAIN. At a town council meeting, when one person expressed concerns about this, on eof the takking heads replied, (paraphrased) "You want to throw out this years new assessments? If we do that roughly 4000 property owners would be paying more taxes than they should." He said that, because it was estimated that there were that many properties that had their assessment lowered, because the "new" ones, from just the year before, where they paid outside consultants to come up with, were too high an needed to be lowered?

But what their not telling which I think is very deceptive and misleading is how racist Cheektowaga is. This is the most racist area of Buffalo NY.
