I came across this video by chance. Here are my words ( from experience in watercolor for 25 years). I have worked on foreign papers when they were not readily available in india like today. Very few specific art stores specially which are in art colleges used to sell papers.What ever i would say now is based on my experience in doing water color on 2rs art paper to 900 rs garza papel paper. I have worked on arches, fabriano both on celluose and cotton papers, canson, bockingford waterford, moulin du roy etc etc i dont even remember all. However the joy i felt on painting on Chitrapat was not there on other paper. Reason - low price, i have no fear of experimenting, creating new techniques, no fear to wasting the paper and so many factors. I am land scape painter and chitrapat is perfect for that. And a artist who can actually paint can paint on chitrapat or arches be it landscape portrait whatever. They will slightly adjust their style based on texture of paper. Thats all. Point to be noted even chitrapat is costly for students specially when i was student( still student after 25 years) when i used to paint 5-6-7 half imperial water colors in a day. By todays standard it would be 3-4 full imperial per day. 20 -25 papers per month. 2000-2500 inr per day. I feel thats also too costly for students. So i would say what ever paper u get paint on it. Be it watercolor paper or not. With time you would develop your own style. Who knows your style wont require costly paper but a 10 rs paper and 25 rs paint. End of day just from a single stoke on paper would make a true artists understand whether you can draw/paint or not.

Whatever you said is absolutely true, as i child i painted on printing paper and laughed at the buckling and kept painting even more. However, how many people do we come across in the world today who have patience and the the courage to keep going on without getting disappointed ? In a world today where people need quick gratification, they get very disheartened when their paper buckles up after a single layer of water. I personally know people who never want to use watercolour again after their first painting! They prefer canvas at least they can repaint to their hearts content and rectify their mistakes as acrylics and oils are more forgiving than watercolour, only experienced watercolour artists can handle their mistakes…so as much as i totally agree with you that paint on whatever you get your hands on if you’re a true artist, the people today now want to become artists overnight, and that kind of patience is not there anymore. If you see my videos, i try my best to explain to them to try a certain part of the painting on their own, but my videos don’t do that well compared to ‘become a pro overnight’ or ‘professional painting in 10 mins video ‘. working so hard on youtube i have 16000 subs for proper tutorials, and other artists have 1lakh+ who change their videos every second and their don’t actually teach anything. That being said, I do have people who follow my tutorials and send my their work, and people like you who such thoughtful comments that really strike, when people really want to learn and get better at what they do, they will do it no matter what.

@@artbyshivangiHey Shivangi! Nice observation but I wanted to add that as kids we are far more resilient than as others. We also had less expectations from ourselves and didn't mind the mistakes at all. I remember I let go of watercolors (which was the first medium I started with) in favour of poster colours (which I saw as just another watercolors). Big reason behind this was the classmate and navneet drawing books we were given by the school. The Art paper of the final exam used to be of the same quality which also used to whiten the watercolors. I only rediscovered watercolors recently and bought some artist grade paints and papers. I feel much more motivated to start another painting with watercolor than sketching or inking because of the quality of the supplies.

You are right, I also have very bad experience with Brustro, I fill it is very overhyped, Because I have order many art material of this brand , Hoping that few things will be upto the mark, but they all seem very cheap quality, even being the price so high

Totally agree. Brustro might suit certain artists and their type of painting. But never suited mine and most people I know.

I agree with you regarding the feeling about Brustro. Something feels really off about that company. Their reviews on Amazon are unreasonably high and the quality of the brushes I received was not at all on par. Upon researching I discovered that the company is founded by an art material importer. They don't own anything, they don't make anything by themselves. Everything is a relabelled material and considering how admant they are on not sharing supplier information, I suspect they are importing cheap Chinese materials in a dropshopping format. The only things worth buying from them are their distributed materials of Sennelier, princeton, etc. On a different note, I have been using Factor notes 25% cotton paper which is thick and good for semi wet drawings. In my opinion it's better than Canson Montval.

What about the 440 gsm chitrapat paper? Does it have the same cons as those of 270 gsm?
@artbyshivangi Жыл бұрын
it will allow many more layers of water as compared to 270. But it absorbs a lot of pigment. If you use very high quality paints it shouldn’t be a problem. The red roses in this video were painted on 440.

@@artbyshivangi One more question. I use masking tape for a smooth border along the edges. But, it's so difficult to remove the tape without damaging the paper. Could you please help what I could do to ensure that I can remove the tape smoothly? I have tried the technique of applying masking on woolen fabrics so that it becomes weak, but did not find it very useful. Do you suggest any special tape for this specific purpose?
@artbyshivangi Жыл бұрын
@@anirbanghose994 I have mentioned before, chitrapat doesn’t take masking tape and fluid well. I usually apply masking tape to another paper several times to weaken the glue, and then put it on Chitrapat paper.Pull very gently while removing.

Brustro! 😂😂😂 it’s such an overhyped brand. All the ratings on Amazon have been manipulated. I checked the ratings via a website, and as far as I remember, 84% of the reviews for one of the products were fake! Their 300 gsm paper is not even think enough to be counted as 300 gsm. And their ‘professional’ colours are so, so, so bad!
