That was an intriguing call. He answered pretty much every question with quite a bit of confidence, so he clearly has thought about this stuff quite a bit. And yet everything he said was so flimsy and even self-contradictory that a stiff breeze could blow it down. Really goes to show how decently intelligent people set their brains aside when discussing religion.

The direction to head after that point would be to talk about God's need/deserving to be worshipped. The random made up God could be worshipped purely but Greg would probably point out since he knows nothing about the God he has no reason to care about their pure worship. That line of reasoning isn't really contradictory. There is an internal consistency to his answers. There's just no reason to believe any of it is true.
@brandontankersley8107
@brandontankersley8107 2 ай бұрын
"Pure worship", whatever the hell that's even supposed to mean, has to be one of the silliest ideas for the lack of evidence I've ever heard. Dude literally says God made us specifically to worship him, but doesn't give us any evidence to show that he even exists because it somehow taints the worship. And he's supposed to be maximally (damn, I hate when they use that word) intelligent, but couldn't figure out a better way to go about pretty much everything? Regardless of the possibility of any generic God existing, I will never believe in the biblical God because he just seems like a bumbling fool with severe temperament issues.

College is an amazing time to talk, listen, and learn. Both in and out of the classroom. For those who value thinking: getting at least an undergraduate degree in a field of your interest will teach you much more than just your field of study. Live on campus. Participate. Make friends. Do stupid things. Have fun. Cry. Learn. I wish I could do it again (for the first time).

Brian's history revisionism is pretty stunning. The "dark ages" wasn't a consequence of the spreading of Islam, it was due to the fall of West Rome. The crusades didn't happen to defend Byzantine, it was mostly a way to turn the war mongering among European nobility towards brown people.

Brian, one of the Crusades literally began because the wrong type of Christianity was being practiced in Southern France. The Cathars were practicing a more Gnostic style of Christianity that went against what the Crown of France practiced which aligned with the Pope at the time. Pope Innocent III declared a crusade and offered up the Cathar lands to all Frenchmen that took up arms against the Cathars. There were no Muslims involved in this and was only about conflicts between Christians.

Greg is a slave, to a lie. Faith is the ultimate defense of a lie, and the liar has to survive by convincing people that faith is a good thing. Not only has Greg been convinced, but he’s now out tryin to explain to others why that lie-defending faith-mechanism of ignorance and just-go-ahead-and-believe is a good thing. I hope Greg sees that he called in to defend a lie-protecting mechanism.

Ok? But in dnd worshipping gods give you spells, and you can literally talk to them with enough work, and they aren't meant to be omnipotent or anything, just really powerful in their domain, one is even a mortal who managed to perform magic to become a god, they all want to provide answers and evidence when asked. All to say, if our world has a god/gods that require worship to continue existing but seemingly try to avoid the worship, maybe they dont want the worship or the existance.

35:00 love how the eye is so intelligent design to put the veins and nerve in front of the retina (the receptors) instead of behind it. Imagine if I made a camera with the wires in front of the lenses, with a hole in the middle (the blind spot) to allow the cables to pass through. And if you have diabetes with uncontrolled high sugars, you generate more veins (non-benign), blocking vision, damaging the front of these sensors, causing black spots/loss of vision.

Why do you think so many wealthy religious orgs have spent millions on pseudoscience marketing campaigns over the years? They know the more people become educated in science, the less members, and hence donations, they’ll have. And rather than just accepting reality & building their views around it, they’ve founded “creation science” (talk about an oxymoron) orgs like the ICR, GA & DI, and hired creationist pseudoscientists to spread misinformation, in order to undermine secular science and make the nonsense in the Bible seem more scientifically plausible. It’s so gross and so dishonest. But that’s why we have millions of ignorant Americans who don’t believe in evolution, despite not understanding anything about it, and why they’ll all repeat the same misinformation & then get thoroughly embarrassed if they accidentally try it on someone who’s educated & actually understands evolution. There may as well be an 11th commandment ordering them to stay ignorant, and it’s frustrating cuz they have no clue how deeply silly they sound when they reject the entire foundation of biology while hypocritically benefiting from modern medicine & technology. At times I really wanna call them out & ask why they don’t reject all of modern medicine but they’re such a gullible group, I’m a bit afraid one of em might actually try to treat themselves with prayer, and we all know how that would go 😂 Seriously, how can they justify the faith-based rejection of a globally accepted scientific theory that’s withstood 160 years of scrutiny & attacks from the entire scientific community, numerous religious orgs and pseudoscientists alike. The evidence for evolution is so strong that it transcends nationality, religion, language, and race. But apologists will dishonestly make it seem like it’s all just anti-Christian oppression…forget the fact that like 70% of Americans identify as Christian, including over 80% of lawmakers, it’s all just this big conspiracy by secular scientists who are scheming to take god out of the equation 🙄 it’s ABSURD and pretty pathetic tbh. It seriously feels like the civilized world is trying to move past these barbaric, illogical ideologies & Christians are like this jealous stalker that refuses to go away & leave us tf alone 😂😂😂

I took a Mammoth Caves class as part of my Honors program in college and we went down there a couple times and went down some paths with some scientists that worked there, and I did not see a single block of cheese. We did see some 19th century graffiti, gypsum flowers, a pile of broken 19th century shoes, the TB hospital, coprolite, and broken baskets used by Native Americans though. Oh, and some leftover stuff from when parts of the cave system were used for mining saltpeter.

What got me to stop and click the thumbs up button on this episode, was that timestamp 1:55:20 where is Seth said if you want proof of evolution, watch Christianity. Exactly. Biological evolution is fascinating, but it's also complex and multifaceted and many aspects of it can span enormous amounts of time, but the evolution of a religion that claims there's no such thing as evolution is simple enough and fast enough that we can watch it happening, and the evidence of it is overwhelming. There are other even simpler and even faster examples of evolution as well, but Seth is absolutely right about that being an excellent example.

I like him much more than Matt. He's a lot more patient and pleasant. I recognise that Matt has been doing it for a very long time, but I think that's part of the problem. The state of Arizona owes this show an apology for Brian whose expertise in what he speaks of is very limited, and demonstrated those limitations with false equivalencies, strawmen, and red herrings complicated by his inability to use his ears properly and understand how a conversation works. Which is why Brian is this week's winner of the Golden Propeller Beanie Award. He was after a win here. (He failed) Every time he was asked to respond to something specific, he blatantly tried to change the focus onto a different subject. This disingenuous behavior could be by-product of the standard Dunning-Kruger Effect...further complicated by the insecure mind of a man-child. Brian is not the best that Arizona has to offer on this topic...or at least I hope he's not Arizona's best. Look for Brian to run for senator of Arizona someday...

Greg is personally just making up his own religion. Where did he learn that there are levels of worship? I don't remember hearing this or reading it in the Bible.
