I buy so many other more expensive bottles and a lot of them don't give me the same experience as 1792 Small Batch. Every time I go back to it I'm truly impressed how good that is for the price. I just recently picked up a 1792 BiB store pick that is absolutely amazing to me. I'm also really starting to enjoy my 1792 Full Proof. So much good stuff coming from 1792 and it seems to be somewhat under appreciated.

Just last week picked up the 1792 for the first time for $25. I really enjoyed it! I picked up the Kirkland a couple months ago. I liked it but wasn’t crazy about it. I used for mixer but I’m going to stick to WT101 for mixing. Love the channel!

I've toured 1792 three times between 2015 and 2019, and we ran into the master distiller on our first visit. He shared that they removed the age statement when they changed the name after Sazarac purchased the assets from Constellation brands in 2009. It was also at this time they began playing with the mash bill and creating the winter wheat and other versions. 1792 Winter wheat made it debut in the fall of 2016, which jives as we were told that everything is "at least 7 years old".

1792 was a very early bottle for me and it was great for the price. As I've ventured deeper into the rabbit hole there is something about 1792 that feels missing. Like the mid palette is very light when you try it next to something else. I still like it, especially the bib and full proof store picks I have but that experience ranked it down a little with other options. All that said, it will be available at my place.

Good show! I've toured the 1792 distillery and also have tried several of their bourbons and have always been kind of underwhelmed with their products. I will go back and re-try this small batch when I can to give it another chance based on your review. I have not tried any of the recent Kirkland offerings from Barton, but have read many reviews saying that the Small Batch is just OK, but their Bottled in Bond offering is much better. I've not seen the BiB, as our local Costco store in Orland Park is like yours, in that they don't have much in the way of different Bourbons, and always seem to have the same stuff every time I go in there, which is about every 2 weeks or so. I had to pour a little 1792 to follow along on the video. Totally agree with the red berry note. 1792 Small Batch is a perfectly fine neat pour and a killer in an old fashioned.

Good one. If you like 1792 (as I do) and hope that Costco will just be a less expensive version of the same stuff, you're likely to be disappointed (as I was), because the Kirkland versions are a step down from the 1792 ones. (Not surprising, but some folks on line hyped it up when it first came out.)

I found y'all researching bourbons for a vanilla making project. I've been making vanilla extract with vodka the last few years, and now want to start a batch of bourbon vanilla. At the cost of Madagascar vanilla beans, it's important to pick a bourbon that will add good notes to the finished product, but you don't want to break the bank on it. This 1792 small batch sounds like it could be a solid choice. I always let my vanilla meld at least a year, but starting with an already decently aged product is important.

Need to try the other Kirkland/Barton releases. The Single Barrel is definitely a step above, but I think the Bottled In Bond is just a few bucks more than the small batch, and is really good, and really awesome when you factor in the price.

I usually drink my bourbon on ice (Wild Turkey 101, Russell's 10 year & single barrel, Maker Mark, Buffalo Trace, others, but 1792 Small Batch actually taste better neat. I beginning to enjoy Bourbon neat, more and more. I usually do not like high rye, like 1792, but neat it very nice. I even have cast strength 1792 and bottle in bond 1792, it is great fun to visit the distilleries. (I drive though KY four times a year).

I agree with you about the ice. I prefer my bourbon on the rocks accept for Old Forrester 100. Neat is the way to go. Can’t find 1792 around here nor any Buffalo Trace products. My store manager said he can’t get them. I’d like a head to head with 1792 and Eagle Rare.

When I started the bourbon journey, the guy at the ABC store told me you can't go wrong with 1792 and E.H. Taylor. Of course you can't find EHT anymore...Up for your Costco bourbon hunt - the Kirkland Bottled-in-Bond and Single Barrel.

Great show as always! On the Costco/Kirkland front, have you tried the Small Batch Tennessee Bourbon (aged 7 yrs / 103pf)? I find it to be rich and complex, yet balanced. Not always my first reach, but definitely one I look forward to!

One of my very first bottles was 1792 Ridgemont Reserve. Funny story about that bottle in my house. I drank 3/4 of the bottle and my wife dumped the rest to make a Halloween decoration. 😂😥

As usual your spot on with the comparison, I expected more from the Kirkland label. On a different note have you heard of or tried Broken Fence ? For $35 it is a great bourbon in my opinion. I would love to see you review. Another suggestion would be a tasting on Texas Bourbons.

The three bourbons I recommend regularly in that price range are 1792, Elijah Craig, and Old Forester Signature. Or I mean Buffalo Trace if you can find it. Those are my standards in the 20 to 30 dollar range.

Honestly to me it was very disappointing. Elijah Craig, WT 101, OF 100, OF Rye, OG 114, Buffalo Trace all are better and there's more I could list. That being said it's worth a try so you can get some Barton distillate under your belt

Well guess in Australia 1792 small batch is around 80 so at the time I would rather get a rare breed for 86 now everything else has gone up and 1792 is just harder to find .if only we had $20 litre bottles..I understand conversion rates but still..prices here are ridiculous .cheers guys great video

I love 1792, great for the price. I try to avoid low priced brands made for stores. Tried the Clark & Sheffield from Binny's. Named after the street corner where Wrigley Field is in Chicago. Good price, about $11.99, cannot drink neat, ok in drinks

I have a hard time here in my area (MI) of finding any of the (3?) Kirkland bourbons at my Costco. Rumor has it that Small Batch can be found, but I have not as of yet. It's weird because I can kind everything else Kirkland; Scotch, Whiskey, Vodka, Gin, etc. Oh well. I can find 1792 Small Batch around and will pick that up soon. Thanks again guys.

Much to my wallet's chagrin, I live less than 5 minute from Costco. I've had more than one of the Kirkland Small Batch's and one than one of the 1792's. I really wanted to like the Kirkland more, but I agree with your assessment. It's not bad, it's just not in the same league as 1792 and I'll continue to pass on it in the future. It's worth paying the few bucks more for the 1792 (yes, I realize more and 750mL vs 1L). Anytime you continue to qualify "for the price", that's a hint. As always, cheers! 🥃

Costco's in more affluent areas stock a wider selection and more expensive whiskeys. My local Costco for the longest time just carried the basics, now they are getting more interesting selections. Try different Costco's if you can.

1792 has SO MUCH banana in it (especially on the nose). I never noticed it until I did an A-B comparision with another non-Brown Forman bourbon. It stood out SOOOO much when I came back to it. It's one of the first bourbons I was able to pick out "notes" with...

The kirkland Sb is my least favorite but the Kirkland barton bonded is twice as good and the kirkland barton single barrel (120 proof $30) is 3 times as good. They are both at Coscto right now. You may want to make another trip guys, you will not be disappointed with the single barrel. Thanks guys!

Takes practice and I continue to practice all the time. Find an online review of a bourbon you have handy. Sip and try to find the tasting notes that they are describing. Repeat

Try comparing a bourbon’s aroma to things like that bottle of vanilla in your spice rack. This technique is why there are wine tasting aroma kits (you can find them on Amazon or elsewhere).

Given the similarities dictated by the rules of product, and the fact that we're talking about whiskey from the same distillery, but even it wasn't, there just can't be remarkable differences these bottles, especially at similar proofs. I'd love to pick up this, or any, Kirkland whiskey, but NYS doesn't allow them to sell spirits or wine here, which very much sucks.
