the question is did they extend the assistants already and how much are the buyouts. the uconn leverage lies in the large value of Luke Murray to this hurley move. Luke is an offensive scheming genius. I could see them working out a Kevin Young situation with luke where he spends some time with lakers but still be a uconn coach. Kimani as HC and luke the offensive coordinator sort of arrangement. This ties uconn to the laker/lebron brand and can help both sides.

I'm a lifelong UConn fan who lives in LA now. As much as I would love to see Hurley take the reins out here I would be crushed to not see him chase after the 3peat. One of the saddest parts of him leaving would be that he could have drafted Karaban!
@jimmyrustled24937 ай бұрын
I'm disappointed but not worried. We will either promote Kamani or Luke or hire someone else. However I dont really understand why Hurley wouldn't want to try to win 3 more titles over the next 10-15 years and have your name next to Wooden and Coach K. That is not some unfathomable feat. I'd rather have 5 NCAA titles at UConn than coach a NBA rebuild with an old super star who has fired half of his coaches. I still see UConn has the favorite to win it all and 3 peat. Its the system not the coach.

A state univerisity cannot compete with the NBA, 4x the annual salary. To "graduate" from a blue blood college program to one of the most storied Professional organizations in any sport is a no brainer. Dan basically ran a professional program at the college level anyway so there are no transitional issues. As UConn fans we can only be grateful for having had Dan after Jim and wish him well. It will be next to impossible to get another one like these legends.
@bumblebeemoi7 ай бұрын
I don’t think his program is even remotely like a pro program. With Dan it’s about putting ego aside and playing to win whereas the pros push big point production from stars. I hope Hurley stays but if he doesn't id feel pretty good with Luke next season and into the future of the program.

Leaving would be his biggest mistake. I know Lebron expressed favor for his coaching; however, anyone who has paid any attention to Lebron’s career with coaches knows that Lebron does not want to be coached. He wants someone who will sit on the sidelines and ride the wave. Once he is done with the coach, he stops listening and playing, the team follows suit, then the coach gets fired. It would be silly to throw away what he has at UCONN to be fired in potentially less than 2 seasons.
