Is Davis Warren perhaps a bit better than we think?

The eye test says Michigan football desperately needs more quarterback production and that's somewhat true statistically, but when it comes to execution, perhaps we're being much too hard on first-year starter Davis Warren.
We take a look at Warren's PFF grades through Week 2 and compare those to the other 17 starting quarterbacks in the Big Ten. And it turns out, things are not quite as bad as they feel after the pummeling by Texas. Where he's OK, where he needs to improve, and more using advanced analytics.

You’re missing the point man. He’s explaining how if you take into account the lack of separation from the WR’s/drops and the line not giving adequate time, he’s objectively been decent so far. QB is the most dependent position on the field and the reality is, ANY QB would struggle and look pedestrian without proper blocking and pass catchers not getting open and catching balls.

Warren has been saddled with absolutely horrid play-calling and coaching decisions. The kid hit 60 percent his first ever start. Surely he must have something physically wrong. Is he too short? Is his arm weak? Is he inaccurate? He is none of those. He can make the throws, I see him put the ball right in the gut most of the time. No, he is facing some of the WORST coaching and play-calling I have ever seen. When Texas was up 7-0 he drove us down field and like a fool, Sharone takes him out on 3rd and 3 and Orji gets stuffed. I mean come on, he drove us down the field and hit a couple 3rd downs, but then you mess up his flow and take him out. Then, he is told to throw those ridiculous sideline passes on 3rd and long. Face the real truth, Moore should NOT HAVE BEEN GIVEN this head coaching job. He is not experienced enough and has done nothing other than run a game-day plan made by Harbaugh. Maybe you can answer this for me, How come Bama didn't hire the worst of their two coordinators as their new head coach? Why would they go out and hire a coach who had just coached a team to the Natty game when they could have just hired their worst coordinator? Because they want to win, that's why. Minter had FAR MORE to do with that Natty win last year, if any coordinator should have been hired it should have been him. We didn't even offer him the job, and I assure you, had we thrown big millions at him, he would have taken the job. Now, tell me this doesn't look EXACTLY like we are headed for more years like the 2000-2020 years? If you don't see this, then you are simply blind. Our AD doesn't really care about winning. Harbaugh fell into our laps because he wanted to coach his beloved blue. So he gets us the natty, and right on cue, our AD doesn't do what is required to keep him, doesn't go hire a proven coach like Bama did, doesn't even hire the best of our 2 coordinators but hires the worst of the two. Moore had me fooled. I first thought this was a total DEI hire, but then I heard the interviews and though he sounded bright and very confident, and then, TWO GAMES, and it is completely obvious he has NO IDEA how to coach or build and sustain a winning team. He absolutely was a DEI HIRE, PERIOD. Hell, Michigan State actually hired a real coach with a good track record. If you can't see that this moronic AD is taking us right back to the 2000-2020 years, you are blind. Our brand is as big as any brand in CF, which means we could do EXACTLY what Ohio State, Bama, Georgia, and all other great teams do in recruiting, NIL, and the portal, BUT WE WON'T and this AD doesn't want to. So we have an AD problem overall, this guy is a total moron and should be fired. Moore will now coach us for 2 years or more before we even think about firing him, and even then, they will just hire another unless Tom Brady wants to get into coaching. Blaming Warren is just beyond pathetic, we have WAY bigger problems than him.

Davis Warren has gotten very little support from his fellow offensive teammates. Poor offensive line play has led to a lot of pressures and hits on the quarterback. No real running game to help the quarterback. Other than Colston Loveland there has been very little help from the receivers because of poor route running and dropped passes. He has absolutely played better than some are giving him credit for.

I saw potential and was rooting hard for Warren in the off-season. I have given him the benefit of the doubt wherever I could. But, for me to change my view on him, he will have to BALL OUT against Ark St and then BALL OUT AGAIN against USC. If he doesn't, and he very likely won't, then we need to move on to Tuttle.

I think Davis is going to be fine and so is the whole team. Michigan will regroup and get it together. We lost 17 players to graduations and the NFL and have a whole new coaching staff. As long as they play hard and give it everything they have that's all one can ask for. I don't know what the final record will be for the team but I am behind the Wolverines 100%! Go Blue!

Lol!! Nice try. Davis Warren is not a starting big ten qb period. Neither is Alex Orji. Michigan knew this back in April but decided to be cheap and not go out and get a qb.Same goes for WR's. Sherone M. Is set up to fail, and Michigan is gonna get destroyed this year. Guarantee to top draft prospects will stop playing and start preparing for the draft before the end of the season.
