I just want a Halo mode. Hardware is nice but I think it would be fun to have a fixed PVP game mode every once and while where weapon and armor perks are deactivated and stats are fixed for both armor and weapons. New players can jump in with blue weapons and armor and compete with veteran players without having to farm red borders and high stat gear. With how sweaty PVP players in D2 like to be, it’s weird that little to none of em want to try out a fixed mode that could be viable for esports without ruining the rest of the PVP space magic that they already enjoy. Seems like a better alternative to me than having needed PVE nerfs negatively impact PVP and vice versa.

Without an abundance of special ammo in 6s to punish these absurdly lenient abilities where they've sprinkled DR and overshields everywhere, it's just not as fun. Having the ammo to snipe with some recklessness also just is fun. Strangling special ammo made D1 pvp nosedive, and years ago when they started hitting scavenger mods they started down the very same path in d2, and it was clear they weren't walking the same road I was from that point on. Either abilities need a full overhaul to be supplemental to gunplay like grapple and such, instead of direct impact, or they just need to give me NLB or a truckload of special ammo again.

They've gotten it so backwards. They've tried to make abilities (in both PvP & PvE) take longer to get but hit harder. Instead of suffering from ability spam, now we suffer from oppresive abilities that serve no chance of fighting back when they are up. Like you said, abilities should supplement the gunplay more often, not one free kill every 2 minutes.

I quit destiny a while after beyond light after playing for around 3 years.. it wasn’t easy to give up the amazing gunplay as you described it, but I am largely a pvp enjoyer and the state of the crucible was just so rough at the time I quit, if you weren’t using the meta hand cannon archetypes or the best ar you were getting destroyed… I have since switched to apex and have noticed the biggest difference for me that I love about apex is that every weapon in the game, no matter how niche can be good in the hands of someone that knows how to use it.. and I think is so cool, there’s 100% still meta weapons, but to not be glued to those few guns that are viable was such a refreshing change… thank you for the informative video tho.. it has certainly kindled the fire to return to destiny… maybe soon….

If you decide to check d2 out again, now is a pretty good time. I would just recommend doing it before TFS drops because of all the stuff they’re adding to the sandbox. Not saying it’s gonna be stasis on release type of broken but it’ll probably be pretty broken (warlocks having 3 charges their slide arc melee doesn’t sound fun as a Hunter main; I’ve literally been at max height and still killed by it).

The special ammo nerf was truly the "pièce de résistance" in ruining sniping. I endured every sniper nerf with saint-like patience, but being reduced to one pathetic ammo, when we previously basked in the luxury of two, was a masterstroke. Sniping is now as enjoyable as a root canal. Bungo should have been made them the exception in this special ammo apocalypse.

For me PvP is just too sweaty and everyone tries SO hard even in QP I just don’t bother anymore once I’m done sweating my ass off in master/GM content I just wanna play something less taxing to enjoy. Although I do enjoy the LTM (rotators)

Honestly you and Shadow helped me out with all your PvP tips and info videos you guys have done over the years (even if some of them were out-dated by the time I got to them) when I came back in Season of the Lost. I went from a ~0.5 to a 1.3 on my lifetime with about a little over a dozen We Rans but over the past year I feel like I’ve stagnated greatly (my kd hasn’t gone up or down; granted that might be in-part due to sbmm but still). The lack of sbmm and low player count feel bad. Even in comp, I get matched with people outside of my rank all the time. It’s a stomp in one direction or the other. Also, like 7/10 of the control/IB matches I play are mercies. Trials on a flawed card is the least sweaty. I’m not a good player, but before sbmm got added but the player count was still good, I would do maybe 1.7 kda and 25 defeats. During sbmm, matches were a little sweaty in a great way. Matchmaking is just dog water right now. Also, plenty of cheaters in the game right now. Like killing me from the other side of the map through a ton of walls, and taking literally zero damage. The gunplay is awesome, the abilities are great, and the pvp experience is hot garbage. The best and worst game I’ve ever played.

my personal satisfaction has been stripped with checkmate integration with slower energy regin and removal of special ammos recharges after death, that was where i had my peak fun (i didnt mind the less body shot damage), there was no inbetween when it was put on the comunity, 2 diffrent game modes was too hard for bungie to implement, there gonna make hardwire "the new normal" again, just like it was for checkmate. just wait and see.

Hardware is definitely on the extreme, but I could totally get behind removing supers from Trials and nerfing abilities across the board. Valorant has magic and abilities as well but like CSGO, it focuses massively on gunplay while abilities enhance the gunplay as opposed to overshadowing it.

I loved the change to damage changes with body shots and crits. It's made duels feel so good and I'm more aware of why I lose duels and can learn. I just really don't like that so many people are choosing to teamshot to accommodate the damage changes. I basically stick to 3v3 exclusively now cause the teamshot was just getting so awful.

I feel like i’m the odd one out here when I say my favourite part of crucible is coming up with weird combos and builds, and i feel like a lot of the changes reduce how much flexibility I have in that. I am not very good, even though i have been playing since y1 destiny 1 my aim has always been subpar and destiny was unique in that it allowed me to supplement my poor aim with my creativity and smart ability usage, none of this is to disparage your opinions but rather to give a perspective of someone on the other side. D2 PVP has been making some improvement and can be fun dont get me wrong but I personally think its just too far gone to ever actually be good/reach its potential because of fundamental problems with how D2 was made. I would love a new type of Destiny game (not necessarily even a proper D3 either). I would use Destiny 1 as the foundation since its artystyle is near perfect and its simpler and more fun imo. I would of course add some QoL from D2 though, such as mantling, director, etc. My first priority would be a stat rework: Mobility - Movement speed and jump height Resilience - Flinch reduction and stability boost Recovery - Health regen speed Intellect - Class ability cooldown time Discipline - Grenade cooldown Strength - Melee ability cooldown Then change Class abilities: Hunter - Shadestep Warlock - Icarus Dash Titan - Twilight garrison dodge All guardians in PVP would have 200HP. PVP would use the special ammo meter: Spawn/Respawn with 2 special bullets and reset meter. 2 non special weapon kills (assist counts as half a kill) fills the meter and grants 2 special bullets. Small special crates can be found on the wall around the map containing 1 special bullet (could be fun as could potentially turn a 1v3 around in trials for example). Any damage boosting perks such as kill clip, rampage, etc. would be artifact perks instead of weapon perks and only usable in PVE. Exotics would be the only weapons with damage boosting perks. The most important thing for PVP though imo is just adding more fun modes to it (which it seems they have started to experiment with but could go much further) so the playlists I might start out with could be: Standard: 6v6 Arena (Clash, Control, Supremacy, D1 Rift, Capture the Flag, VIP, King of the Hill, Oddball) 6v6 Clash 6v6 Combined Arms 6 Player Rumble 3v3 Skirmish 3v3 Elimination Social: 8v8 Moshpit (Mayhem, Scorched, Vehicle battle, etc.) 4v4 Snipers Only (Abilities except jump disabled, unlimited special ammo, only sniper rifles equippable/usable) 6 Player FFA Gun Game (each kill advances the player to the next exotic weapon) 16 Player Infected (1 randomly selected player is infected each round, has to infect all other players) Competitive: Ranked 3v3 (Skirmish, King of the Hill, Capture the Flag) Ranked 4v4 Countdown Ranked 6 Player Rumble Trials of Osiris Iron Banner I have tons more ideas but thats the basic start of what I would do with a new game. General philosophy would be keep things simple and consistent in PVP with a big focus on gunplay and with abilities being somewhat underpowered (more akin to D1 or even vanilla D2); but also maintain fun in PVE (mostly through use of artifact perks and potentially a system of extra abilities that can only be activated in PVE).

Great video, thank you for this. Anyone saying to play COD is way out of touch, at least “insult” by saying to go play Halo. The TTK and feel of the guns allows for major outplay, something COD is the opposite of. If you don’t get it that’s fine, but try to learn or move on from the discussion, these modes aren’t for you. The beauty of a mode like this is it essentially is a Halo-lite, but instead of fair starts we get to experiment with thousands of weapons and actually shoot them without constant interruption to gun battle. Most of all, it’s a mode, not a change to the game as a whole.

It’s improved but I would not say it’s in a good place yet. Some of the changes they’ve made have created new problems that I find even more frustrating than what we had before. Team shooting has spiraled out of control. Standing in a lane death balling with your entire team feels terrible. And the games best options to deal with that play style have been nerfed (Cloudstrike, Lorentz Driver, Abilities) and much more scarce. Nobody takes a 1v1 anymore. People hardly ever push even with special ammo. The optimal play is to stand around the corner crouching staring at your radar waiting for someone to push. Special ammo weapons should either be in a weak state or less frequent. It should not be both. I legitimately miss the era of people running at me with a shotgun nonstop for 10 minutes.

I actually enjoyed the airborn changes. I always hated those players that only ran stompees and head bumped around every ledge because it’s just strait up boring. No its no. Insane TTK on ARs and pulses hard to miss on controller. Lack of airborn accuracy on a lot of guns. Literally 2 subclasses playable in trials if you want to be competitive/win. Lack of special killing the opportunity to 1v2 due to super long TTK on primary. Teamshot still meta. Too many overshields like titan shield and rift making it impossible to push sometimes WHEN EVERYTHING IS OBJECTIVE BASED IN PVP now. 0 Counter to bubble and well. Still no good anti cheat. Overall the worst pvp we ever had with close to no skill required in this game right now where the meta is stand in barricade/rift with AR or pulse and teamshot.

I've watched and listened to your commentary until 9:25. The New Territory Maps and PvP have been , as confirmed by yourself, to cater for the high-skilled column. The direct effect of this is an even further widening of the skill gap IMHO. Newer players and us chronologically older players have no chance to "upskill". It's been my experience this fortnite (pun intended!!) that solo players will have an even WORSE experience than the Stasis Crapfeft that was Beyond Light. It's going the way of ability spam and more ability spam. No more gunplay, even though Hardware is available. Unfortunately for all of us, Bungie IMO has made it even better for Xim, Aimbotters etc to play Crucible as Headshots are now priority. Unless this is Bungie's way of weeding out cheaters. I LOVE the new snake draft system for lobby balancing Bungie has implemented lately a little while ago, Legit one of the worst things about Destiny's previous matchmaking system, and Call of Duty is when you're a good player, you're going to get the airheads on your team, and the average and good players all on the enemy team. Its the absolute worst in Call of Duty. They've done a really great job with the matchmaking lately. Because the crucible population took a nosedive into hell after the harsh SBMM switch on during the Pirate season, ARC 3.0

Haven't played for a while, only thing i know for sure is bungie made bow completely unusable in pvp something like precision frames 1h1b and 1 body 1 melee don't kill anymore. Hope they realise they've fucked up when they'll see 1 weapon archetype with less use rate than glaives

PVP strike team made crucible worse with special ammo changes. Period. Destiny PVP is special weapons. That's what makes it most fun. Every single time Bungie tries to stray from that they screw things up. Go figure, the moment they FINALLY add new competitive maps they completely screw it all up with ammo changes.

The higher up you go, the more you run into cheaters. Destiny incentivizes cheating and because the dev team has degrees in shortsightedness and ineptitude, they don’t know how to combat this.

While I’m having a great time as a decent to above average player… I can’t help but feel bad for the players I’m going against. I’ve seen a lot of new players in the new territories playlist who are just getting pummelled to the ground. They lack the fundamentals to enjoy a the fun aspects of D2, especially when the rest of us have nearly a decade worth of knowledge. Eventually, they’ll leave and it’s gonna be back to the same old thing. However, I don’t think this is a fault of Bungie, but an unfortunate by-product of the community. From carry culture, to elitism, pvp feels intimidating and uncomfortable by nature. Worst thing is, these players don’t even have a chance in the new sandbox. I’ve had a thought of making videos covering the fundamentals of Destiny for a while now, kinda like crucible school or TV’s how to snipe videos. I’d like to know what you think of that idea? Is it something worthwhile in today’s environment? Thanks

Made billions, still can’t do dedicated servers. So to make it “better”, added cross play into already janky connections. Pay no attention to the fact that a “AAA” title can’t find TWELVE players on the same platform in a 2000 mile radius?? Meanwhile TF2 has fair gameplay in PvP with 2500 or so players. The jokes on us. Theyve gotten too far frim checkmate. Too much special and too many abilities. When we started the initial checkmate integration into PVP, it was much better IMO

It’s not fun anymore especially with the special ammo changes. The game has been figured out for a while now and high end PvP comes down to crunching well and bubble and using kits like strand to make 1v1s a joke.

It really isn't man. It's basically just a game of who has the god roll. It's not competitive at all. It's the worst PvP experience I have ever had, and that's with 200k plus kills, 2.0kd. It used to be alright, and then it got worse as they started to add more and more stuff into PvE which meant more chaos in PvP. The teamshot meta and the handcanon meta has never changed. 1v1's barely even happen anymore. Matchmaking sucks. There are cheaters in the game. It's like Bungie forgot they even made such an amazing PvP game, Halo.

@@PattycakesGaming PvP shouldn't rolls in general. make everything an even playing field. Some people who love playing PvP don't have the time to grind 100's of hours into farming one specific god roll, it's just not worth it. Trails, Comp, and even regular Crucible playlists shouldn't have god rolls, it also takes away the purpose of carrying an exotic as well.

Please don't bring cyrodiil into destiny. It's a toxic & terrible place 99% of the time. The connection & gameplay is way more infuriating than crucible. I played it for a few years & it's rougher than 80 grit sandpaper

@@Lorentz_Driver there is competitive that should have SBMM as it’s competitive, but SBMM in quick play makes no sense. I don’t go into quick play to stomp, but you can’t run none meta builds in quickplay when SBMM is active. I run rubbish load outs for quick play for fun, I think everyone would agree SBMM sucks, including most of the Devs! Games like MW and MW2, halo, halo 2 and halo 3 pvp were amazing why because there was no SBMM.

PvP is almost great again. All we need are nerfs to extremely potent abilities (Barricade health, freeze shatter aoe damage, boosted melee lunge range, Over-shields) as well as rewarding guns for breaking abilities (break barricades/turrets, gain normal/precision hit/kill weapon buffs, think breaking a barricade with Necrochasm and getting both the explosion and outlaw/desperation to procc, and think hits with Hawkmoon giving paracausal stacks).

And activation DR really needs to go... Another good step would be to have more special ammo, that always checked abilities fairly well if memory serves.
