As far as Dimash's fame goes, he has been a household name in China since 2017, His first album release in China went platinum within 37 seconds and twice more by the end of the day. The American and Western Europe music industry already knows who Dimash is and that he is a gold mine But as you will find out, Dimash cannot be pinned down into a single genre and is also very close to his Kazakh heritage. Those things do not mesh well with how the music industry is set up in the west, especially if you cannot be pinned down into a single language and genre. Yet, Dimash dears come from all different musical backgrounds or likings and across all generations and cultures.

Yes, Dimash really made those sounds. Nothing digital about it. Some call it a "glottal stop" and it is fundamental to traditional singing as practiced in Kazakhstan as well as other parts of Asia. It is used in Arabic music as well, and the technique is also used in Italian/German music from the 17th and 18th century, called a “note ribattuta” or “ribattuta di gola.” A Kazakh commented that Dimash used a singing technique called 'komeymen aytu' or Tuvan throat singing. Dimash has studied both classical music as well as folk music, so he is well versed in singing techniques that are not common among pop singers. Dimash honored the deceased singer with this tribal vocalization. Dimash has used throat singing in other performances as well, either performed by himself or as part of the accompaniment. Both Dimash and Erlan Bekchurin, who arranges most of Dinash’s songs, are steeped in Kazakh folk music. If you listen closely, you will echoes of that in almost every song.

No, it’s not a digital effect, I believe he is doing a traditional melisma of the Sakha people of Yakutia. If you check out his more recent track of “Stranger” recorded in China (not the one in Russia) you will hear even more of this vocalisation.

thats right. When you listen to traditional Turkish music, you realize that this is not a digital effect. Because Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Turkey sound artists, aside from their nuance differences, have a similar style. Compared to European-oriented music theories, Turkish music theory has a wider structure and application. Coma intervals and numbers, Note failures(flats and diesis) are more different than Western music. As a matter of fact, these vibratos also have a Turkish influence.

That vibrato you described as sounding like and "effect" is a traditional vocalisation found throughout Siberia, Mongolia etc. Similar to Arabic wailing and throat signing as well. I remember a hearing a Tuvan throat singer live and in the Q&A she told us she was signing three pitches simultaneously.. It did not sound real. I absolutely love it!

For those who like information about Dimas' songs: The story behind this song is very interesting: The band that accompanies Dimash is the same one that composed the song, without the singer who died after a heart attack! The band is also from Kazakhstan and this performance by Dimash revitalized the song. In addition, the final part he added, with an oriental technique. I was surprised that so many Western people had never heard it before. In western China, a lot of average people can do it, not just professional singers. It's especially useful if you live someplace mountainous, because the sound carries well. It can be used to call to the person you're in love with who lives across the valley on another mountain.

I love all kinds of music but rock was what made me travel Europe for concerts. In 2020 I discovered Dimash and I'm a Dear for life. Dimash is so versatile that he got music for everyone. Opera, folk, pop, hints of soul and jazz and often various styles within one song. If you want a fun one with more power vocals he even did Go Go Power Rangers. Thanks for your nice reaction and indeed you should continue your Dimash's journey, he never disappoints. FYI his most iconic song is SOS (the version Digital concert 2021 is absolutely insane). All his songs are masterpieces (Stranger, Know, Ave Maria, Samaltau, Autumn Strong...), he sings opera, pop, ballads, folk... his talent has no limit, he is beyond words, because in addition to his incredible vocal talent, he has a unique ability to share emotions and he colours his songs better than anyone. A comment about Autumn Strong referred to above. That is the Chinese version that he has sung a few times. His most current version is called Ikanaide--sung in Japanese (different lyrics.) It is a beautiful passionate rendition which I recommend highly along with the other recent songs MDW listed. Many of the songs he sings have very meaningful lyrics. I would recommend that you try to find the lyrics (no music) first and get an idea of what the song is about before listening to the song. Knowing what he is singing adds a lot of depth to his songs. But his voice is so compelling that it is hard on a first viewing to listen AND read the lyrics at the same time. He does sing some songs in English (his English has improved a great deal from what he sang in 2017 when he first burst onto the international scene), but many of them are in different languages. You can often find the lyrics translated online (some of the translations are not the best, but still...)

Dimash was born Dinmukhammed Kanatuly Kudaibergen in the Aktobe region of Kazakhstan on the 24th of May, 1994. His performance back then was only his 3rd time of singing in English, and he only had a week to learn the songs. It was his 1st time away from home, be spoke no Chinese, or English, but he sang in Chinese as well. He now sings in 13 languages and speaks 4.

He's a mega star in eastern europe and in china. He doesn't need to come across to USA. I think that the show "worlds best" left a bad taste in his mouth when they lied to him when Dimash explicitly said that he will compete, but not with children. He has integrity and i think that's the real reason why he has not made a big effort in the USA.

Dimash has come along way since this video. He now speaks English very well. His 2021 song Stranger is in English. The end note in full belt his held for 20 sec. Look for his video Unforgettable day he wrote the music and on the Gakkue version he hits a D8 note for 4 sec. yep, this whistle was with vibrato, and very high density, for 5 seconds. I have not heard a single singer who would sound so clearly and with such force in whistle notes, there are many videos with Adam Lopez, with Piet, and other singers, but their whistles are very, very quiet and weak, it is difficult to hear them even in a quiet studio, and Dimash's whistle was heard even through the noise of the music and the stadium.

I have never heard or seen anyone with Dimash’s vocal abilities and talent. A lot of hard work for sure on his part! He’s just MAGNIFICENT!!!!! The reason Dimash is not a household name in the West is that he is unwilling to give up musical control of what he does, and signing any kind of contract with a Western music company would require it. Dimash does not need money as well. I believe he has done quite well financially from his endeavors in China, as well as his popularity in Russia and back home. It is the same reason he turned down the opportunity to be a full time opera singer. Dimash is bigger than any of those things.....and he knows it. He loves working with Igor Krutoy. He loves having songs written just for him that only he can sing. Just as Michael Jackson was bigger than the music world and could do what he wanted....Dimash is the same.

@@rednab2001 Well, actually I wouldn't be so sure about it. He worked with representatives of China, and his contracts in China had conditions that were rather tedious for him. I think he is still looking or there are already production companies in America that he still wants to work with in the future. Let's not say in advance, perhaps in the future he will still sign contracts in America, and we will still see him perform there more often.

@@katala65_dqdear If the American music companies would be willing to treat Dimash like an established superstar, then it might work for both parties. Typically, new artist have crap contracts where they have very little decision on what music comes out for them, or how they are presented. Currently, only a few songs he has sung would be acceptable for radio airplay in America. Basically, he would have to become a pop artist. I just don’t believe that is in his future.

To honor the song and band, Dimash asked the band to play the song on the stage with Dimash. I think although he’s been training his voice since he was 4 and also entering contests, there was a plan. His family, mother and father stars in their own right helped lay out a strategy for his career. The show I am a Singer was the first worldwide introduction to Dimash. He was offered an opera contract but turned it down to pursue his passion of combining classical and pop together to make a new sound. Check out Ogni Petra, the stage version, it really shows off his low range and Unforgettable Day at his Arnu concert. There is a note there that is off the piano or off the planet. He did do a concert in NYC in 2019 but then Covid hit which I’m sure slowed down his immediate plans. Everything he does is out of this world so enjoy.

I have been a Dear since the very beginning of 2017. I've lived a lot of years and I've heard a lot of great vocalists in my lifetime, but Dimash is at a completely different level to them all. I do believe he one of (if not the) greatest singers the world has ever produced. (Dimash appears to be well respected by rock and heavy metal singers.) And your analysis of his character is right on point. Dimash is an exceptionally kind, loving and humble young man, who is felled with grace and gratuity! He truly has been blessed by God. I have watched a few voice coaches critique his singing voice. Dimash is other worldly, it's crazy. His range, vibrato and runs are so mind boggling. I don't sing but I can tell if someone is straining, off key or flat. This young man has an instrument for a throat, honestly. I am a dear ❤😂

Hi from Canada! Dimas Kudaibergen is big alright! He sings globally. Now if you would like to be blown away once again .... please listen to NZ Maori artist STAN WALKER. Prepare to be moved and amazed also. Stan is a singer/songwriter and sings some of his songs in Maori. Deeply soulful. Enjoy more of Dimash and hopefully Stan Walker as well. :-)

That sound that shocked you was, in fact, natural and doing with his vocal cords. He has many Ricky songs as Across Endless dimensions (English), and a couple of covers of Queen. The show must go on Queen Medley and We will rockyou/We are Tha champions song.

1) Dimash can go WELL into the 8th octave in whistle tone 2) the vibrato he uses is VERY traditional Kazakh funeral tone (appropriate for the song, since it is a tribute to a VERY famous Kazakh singer who passed away shortly before this performance)

Well, no--Dimash doesn't dance quite as well as Michael Jackson. But you will be reminded of Michael when you see him dance. I gather Michael was one of the singers he grew up listening to; Michael is a performer he says he learned a lot from.
