Makes sense to be consistent with other programs being used, such as if you're text editor has a white background, or the webpages you visit, or your Windows/Linux theme. Considering that the default for many other applications is a light theme, it makes sense to change it to be consistent.

From what i found was teamspeak would use more ram but 0.1% of my cpu And discord would use less ram but 2.1-6% of my cpu Discord is made to look pretty thats number 1 priority And teamspeak number 1 priority is for lowest system and network usage possible (16gb 2133mhz 3930k 6 core @ 4.6ghz)

I also think that TeamSpeak and discord are for a completely different class of people. TeamSpeak is a pure voice chat app and nothing else. Discord on the other hand is a good voice chat app but is real good as a social app. TeamSpeak is a lot different and is better for different games. Discord HAS bots though, including music bots. Once you get used to how the ranks work on discord it's not hard to make a nice rank system. Plus discord is good for making a community, it's one thing if you game and use VC but it's another thing if you have a personal group or clan. It's nice to be able to game and also just chat and share fun things in the same place as well. I think Discord is really good for groups and keeping them active and together.

Over the 1000+ hours I've used Discord, I've never had that "No Route" issue. I've had my internet go out a few times (and then I saw RTC Connecting), but that doesn't count. I don't think that's an issue for most people (me being one of them). EDIT: I use US East and Central servers. I'm not in the EU. I don't think this is a US problem (maybe US West specifically?)

What I really like about TS (that mumble would also do for me) is that since it is locally hosted, I can connect to other PCs on my local network without using the internet connection at all. As a result, the very limited bandwith that we have at our house (especially the upstream that is important in multiplayer games and gets used heavily by voicechats) is fully available for the game clients on the PCs in the house. As soon as you get multiple PCs online, this can actually reduce in-game lag noticeably, and during the time where our internet would sometimes drop out, we could still talk via TeamSpeak, meaning we didn't have to leave our chairs and go through the annoying process of real-world communication.

Discord is the best out there atm, I get teamspeak is good and as a gamer my guild has used it in the past but discord for now is free and has a built in overlay so you don't need that bloatware piece of garbage Overwolf unlike teamspeak. Pei Gao Well it's more so that it removes the excuse the "I don't have TS installed" shit people try to pull. I personally have no issues memorizing our server link. It's permanent one, and I have memorized, but I am good at memorizing random numbers and letters likes that, all my passwords are like that. That said, you can buy a redirect link, just like you can for TS3.

@Sujieun Teamspeak does not work in a way that can possible allow that in anyway. TS devs dont control your server or IP, that is all done by hosting services, or if you host yourself. That is server side stuff, through a host or on your own. It has zero to do with TS in anyway.

Imho comparing Discord and Teamspeak or any other voice platforms is similar to comparing between Linux and Windows or OSX, all have their advantages, all have their own levels of user-friendliness, etc etc Can't really compare one platform to another when they attract different types of users (Discord for more casual/general users, Teamspeak for administrators who want more customizations, Skype for.. People who use them, etc).

My computer had a problem: thermal throttling. It affected severely the sound quality on discord with metallic sound and constant stuttering. Teamspeak always worked me perfectly in all conditions My laptop was fixed and this problems has almost disappeared but sometimes discord seems to fail again. It's not perfect I think this review lacks the resource and network usage data for each program. Also, performance on low end machines, impact on CPU usage and dependency of consistent CPU frequency since this problem was very noticeable on my laptop Also, Discord uses TOO MUCH CPU if I enable the camera. Although I think it's a bug.

+TheJaviJB I've noticed Discord uses way less CPU and RAM then Skype does in every possible way, but once you start screen sharing? Might as well forget it. Even in the largest of groups and calling with 25 people in it, screen sharing to all of them still won't max out your CPU while using skype (even with audio being transmitted) but on Discord? Even doing with 1 person maxes it out, and doing it with 10 people in a group just makes it worse. I'm not sure if it's because the Discord dev's never optimized the screen sharing ability, or if it's just still in beta, but it's extremely annoying.

Nighterlev Screen sharing still needs work overall. It can't capture fullscreen windows and doesn't seem to work in Linux at all at the moment(the web view just restarts when attempting). If you ask me, screen sharing is not a finished feature right now.

I have but only on a really old wifi router that had tons of packet loss. Once I upgraded to an internet setup from this decade, I had no problems. You may also get degraded service while downloading at high speeds, and Discord does seem more sensitive to this than other voice chat platforms I've used (Teamspeak, Skype) - but again, this problem was fixed for me by upgrading the router, so YMMV.

He also hasn't figured out Mumble has an overlay mode that shows the whole window, just like teamspeak. You have to map a button to "toggle overlay", which is admittedly not straight forward, but it does exist.

no, it is the thruth. i use linux a lot, on school(IT in the netherlands, MBO niv 4), and if you really wanna tweak it, you need to go into the scripts, but these are system files, to manipulate the OS or Kernel to do what you need it to, because an OS is made for every group of users all at once, so if you are an advanced user, needing functionality, that not everyone will understand, that might be a good tool. a chat program should just have everything built in, easy to reach. this was maybe not possible in aerlier days because of HW or SW constraints, but now, it should definetly, and has proven to be, possible. and if it does not have all the functionality you require of it, well either go to a platform that does have that. or, expand on the functionality by adding a bot, or making a bot, if you are an advanced enough user/programmer. not having to aquire built in functionality, that you should be able to reach by an options menu, to go into vital scripts, and edit something that someone might not fully understand. it is about making it simple for the normal users and making it tweakble for the people that do know how to.

I came here to say the same thing. I host my own mumble server in a nearby datacenter. For both security and latency. Also, he did not mention what configurations were used for mumble. OPUS? Was the max bitrate changed in the server settings? Mumble does exactly what I want, low latency voice chat. I don't need the text features, I already have Steam, Facebook, Snapchat, SMS, hangouts.. etc.. if someone wants to send me a link while offline. But this is my specific needs and use case. Discord does have some nice features.

I have knowledge of VoIP; I still use Discord more than any other social media similar to it. You see, Skype and--partially--TeamSpeak were my only two options for years and years. I was seriously hoping that one day something like Discord would be created. The first minute I heard that there was a brand new platform of social media, I hopped out of Skype and TS faster than lightning without having to think twice about it. I don't need more customizability just because I know how to work myself around the apps I use, I just want something more simple... and modern.

Not sure if this was touched on, I want to say yes because I might have missed it briefly but the one big advantage that teamspeak has over discord which is the ability to communicate via cross channels which is especially useful for gaming. Here is a good example of why this is useful. I used to play in an organization called 21st century warfare AKA 21CW for battlefield 1942/vietnam/2/3 called that was setup not quite like a clan but more like a tournament where you joined and were assigned to one of two divisions and from there to one of 5 companies where both divisions would go head to head every Saturday for 12 hours of the day (There were a lot of people so not everyone played for 12 hours). Teamspeak was the best and only viable option (especially during 2000's era when BF1942 first came out) as each company would be divided up into their respective channels, with the division air-force in its own channel as well as the division commanders in theirs. Each company leader would designate themselves as a "red" icon instead of green (forget the actual name of the option) which allowed the Company leaders be able to talk with command, airforce and other company leaders while staying in thier company channel with his/her company/squad. This allowed for organized communication without too much chatter from everyone being piled into the same channel as most normally would in discord, where nobody can hear a thing as everyone talks over each other. Hence the name "Teamspeak" Not 100% sure if Discord is capable of this as well as teamspeak is but would love to see it become an option as it becomes an inconvience for players having two use both voice apps as one is great for organizations and clans where the other is great for communication in a game that has more than 24 players on each team, especially 32 or 64 players but isn't even half as popular and twice as hard to learn to use.

It absolutely depends: For the highest possible audio quality, you want to use Skype or Ventrilo as those run the GSM codec. For other functions, Discord and Teamspeak are the go-to software solutions. My group of friends and I use Ventrilo and Telegram for audio quality and flexible text-based communication.
