I took it for 7 days and got extreme fatigue and felt so weak that it was difficult to raise my body to get up. I noticed something seemed to be at the bottom of my lungs taking space so that I couldn’t take a full inhalation. This “thing” disappeared when the drug ended. At the last day I got severe vomiting lasting 8-10 hours and diarrhea. I was so thirsty and couldn’t keep water down. I’m hurting , now, in my upper abdomen over my liver and my stomach. After one day, I could sip water. Day 2 I could eat an apple. I’m taking it slowly regarding food. And I notice my vision is blurry. And I seem to have an everlasting headache.

You need to look after your gut as well. Eat natural yogurt and take high quality Pro Biotics. Also look after your gut. You were probably allergic to that crap as well. Do not take antibiotics unless really necessary they can be poisonous.

Started it this morning, not long after I started puking profusely, also had diarrhea profusely. Was prescribed 100mg twice a day. Noticed today I was having extreme anxiety, irritability, more depression and a generally funky mood. Then out of nowhere I started to have a mild panic attack. Looked into it and increased anxiety is a side effect as well as suicidal ideation. There is strong evidence to suggest there is a correlation! Be careful out there and know your enemy

Everyone should be cognizant of potential adverse side effects and follow up with their provider. Although that is incredibly rare and it depends on many different factors (e.g., what other medications someone is on, supplements use, prior medical history, etc...) people should always communicate with their provider as they certainly may want to choose a different medication. Unfortunately everyone responds differently to medications and there is no way to definitively tell until someone takes a med. Take care!

I had a hip replacement in 2014. I got a bacterial infection, I'd get a sore a few times a year on the incision, leak fluid for month, then go away come back again in another month, so the orthopedic Dr prescribed Doxycycline, one per day dosage, for as long as I have that hip or life. I been since May 2023, but now I noticed at night burning in my stomach and rib cage area. During day my stomach feels nausea. I'm thinking taking a pill every other day to stop my side effects. I had osteomyelitis (MSRA) in my spine a year ago, it was real nasty. Was in hospital for 2 months on IV vancomycin. What I didn’t expect was being told I must be on doxycycline for the rest of my life. My infectious disease dr insisted. Lol. Unfortunately acne is genetically and hormonally linked which is why we see it most frequently during people’s teen and early 20s. Eating a low glycemic healthy diverse diet and avoiding eating too much highly processed foods may or may not help. Supplements rarely can help unfortunately.

To be honest, I have never had any of my patients have that adverse side effect before. It is incredibly rare for that to occur, but is a potential very rare side effect, but many other drugs can have what’s called “fixed drug reactions.” Hope you keep improving.

Overall it should be avoided in pregnancy if possible. There is inadequate human data on the risk during pregnancy. Unfortunately you already took it so there will be no way to tell if any damage is done at this time. Stay in communication with your OB/GYN and follow their instructions on staying healthy throughout your pregnancy. Take care!

Thank you for being responsive still! I was prescribed Doxycycline monohydrate 100mg for a boil. I went twice to two different doctors for this boil. Last month they did an ultrasound on the effected area and then proscribed Bactrim DS for 7 days. It went away but came back about 7 days ago. I went yesterday to a different doctor who took out the blood n bandaged me up. He prescribed doxycycline monohydrate 100mg. Is it not to soon to jump to another antibiotic? Thank you mucho 😊

It depends really. Typically if they drain an abscess that is sufficient enough (if it was an abscess and done appropriately). Yet if he or she recommended an antibiotic that is a choice you need to make. Hopefully the provider cultured the wound to ensure the proper antibiotic is working. He squeezed out the fluids and put a bandage then wrote the script. He has me cleaning the wound 3 times daily. I'll wait on the word from the office to see what we're working against. If they say the doxy was efficient enough for the sample then I'll start my 7 days. The infection seems fine after relieving it. It's like there was nothing there. Thanks again. I get facial welts, papule, pustules, and carbuncles that are painful, drain clear liquid, puss, and blood. Yes, I know gross. I am afraid these lesions will lead to worse infection. Please see my comment please!!! The Lyme Dr prescribed 28 day of doxycycline to my 4 y.o daughter in regards to her Lyme disease. So 28 days divided into two 14 days. First 14 days she need to take 150 mg which divided into three potions with meal everyday. And then 100mg per day for the second 14 days with twice per day. She doesn’t have any symptoms other than bull’s eye. Her Lyme test came back negative on 6 weeks after bite. She did take amoxilin for 10 days. Should I continue her doxy? I’m sooo struggling now. 😢

I highly recommend the book Medical Medium, by Anthony William. He’s the one who’s made celery juice a fad. Ive seen lots of testimonies for it working for folks with acne and it actually cures the problem, not just addresses the symptoms. And it’s a totally natural way that your body will benefit from. It certainly can negatively impact various organs. Just as with almost all meds providers and patients must weigh the risks and benefits prior to starting any medication or supplement. Yes, typically we want to limit the medication duration to prevent any damage to the body and also reduce the chances for antibiotic resistance in the future. Taking Doxycycline as iwas instructed by dr . Infection area improved rapidly. But at the same time having numbness sometimes on both feet . It’s an antibiotic and should only be used for prevention of certain bacterial diseases, acne, treatment of a bacterial infection, etc… If your GYN gave it to you for 10 days, I assume they were treating an infection. It’s not used for simply abnormal vaginal bleeding. Definitely consider following up with your provider to clarify why your on it if they haven’t talked to you in detail.

Yet some individuals have this adverse side effect and still have to take doxycycline (the only med available). I was prescribed this medication March 26 and I have been very, very sick sense taking it. The doctor took me off of it before I was done with it. It has caused severe abdominal pain and severe diarrhea. Even though the doctor took me off it because of side effects as of today I still suffering really really bad with pain and an enormous amounts of bathroom trips. I am now under a doctors care and still very sick from this medicine. Not getting any better yet. Don’t take this medication if at all possible.

Doxycycline is not known to cause any significant weight loss or weight gain.

Individuals having gastrointestinal upset causing vomiting or nausea could lead people to restrict their food intake due to the GI upset. It doesn't mean the medication causes weight loss. It simply means that individuals ate less, due to the GI upset leading to potential weight loss. As. a result, the medication rarely causes significant weight loss in and of itself.

@@hawkshealth There are two versions of this compound the hyclate form works better but is more irritating to the stomach the mono hydrate version is easier on the gut. Ask your doc for a script for that version. You shouldn’t take either and lay down since the drug can creep up your esaphogous and hive you heartburn do not take any tetracycline with calcium Loaded foods or vitamins with calcium within 2 hours. Also these antibiotics can interfere with birth control pills rendering them less effective. Ask your doc about this. Take with lots of water and stay out of the sun they make your skin more sensitive to sun burn.

Do you mean folliculitis or acne? Doxycycline can be a decent treatment for moderate to severe papulopustular acne if your provider makes that recommendation. Each person is different and no one should every take this medication without first discussing the risks, benefits, and alternatives with their provider. Take care!

I was given it because I was bitten by a tick. It bit and burrowed under my skin in my belly button. When I pulled it out its mouth parts broke off under my skin and I could not get it out. So I was given 1 Doxy dose of 200mg. I took it one an empty stomach. It had been about 6-7hrs since I last ate. Worst mistake ever. 30min after taking the meds I dry heaved for 40min until I threw up all the doxy. Which tasted DISGUSTING. Acidic and sour stomach acids. I was given another dose the next day (today) and this time I just ate lunch. But now I’m all nervous lol which is why I’m watching videos. Because I was hugging the toilet for almost an hour until the nasua went away then had a migraine for almost 16 hours. Sooooo here we go again…. Hopefully it goes down and stays down.

I definitely cannot vouch for the reliability of that location. Yet, as long as you follow the instructions from your Doc you should be fine. Typically people don’t have any major issues with taking an extra dose accidentally, but if you have any concerns always follow up with your Doc especially if you experience any adverse side effects.
