My thoughts: - GORGEOUS game, the visuals are somehow better than base srb2k which is impressive - once you learn the controls and everything and master it, it's FUN. It takes the original srb2k being skill based to the next level. - you could have told me this wasnt made in doom anymore and I'd believe you 100%. - The race start is REALLY interesting and fun, feels sorta reminiscient of Sonic Riders, though i do wish it wasn't so easy to get a fault (been knocked into the starting line by cpus more times than i can count) - Most of the tracks are really fun! - I like how having no rings DOESNT make you helpless while still putting you sorta at risk, it feels really balanced - Being able to actually chose your item is a really cool idea to me! - Most of the new items are really fun and creative! With one exception - The bonus minigames are fun Cons: - 45 MINUTE LONG TUTORIAL. IT DID NOT NEED TO BE THAT LONG. - I genuinely have no idea what the bubble shield even does, it feels more like a debuff than a power up - When the courses are bad, they're BAD. - This game somehow feels both more and less slippery than base srb2k Things I'm mixed on: - I love unlocking stuff, and i especially love me a good ol challenges board, but did you really have to make EVERYTHING unlockable? Characters i get, courses i get, but colors? Addons? ONLINE PLAY? Also some of the unlock conditions are just weird, i unlocked Jack Frost and Carol by pure accident bc i tried to load a base srb2k mod Overall, it's not perfect but you can tell they put years into it and i respect it and find the game hella fun

Yeah, thunder shield is the super horn and it drags rings towards you, the fire shield is like nitro in a simracer, those i coulf understand as soon as i got them. The fact that it took me a day to figure out how the bubble shield works makes it a bad item.

Game is absolutely gorgeous aesthetically, but mechanically it's the antithesis of what made SRB2, hell, kart racers in general, fun to play; namely the ability to just grab some friends, turn it on, and _go_. It's so overbloated with unnecessary mechanics (and they don't even tell you all of them in the hour long tutorial).

​@somerobloxdude3699 You have to incorporate the break to manage the turns. This is very classic Sega racing all the way back to Outrun and Super Hang On. This is what makes Mario Kart drifting so boring to me, people don't think about their acceleration, just holding it down constantly. Speed regulation and momentum is how Sonic stands apart. It sounds like the people with the most criticism just want it to be Mario Kart instead of learning a new game that plays differently.

@@lambasted6886that’s what I’ve been saying, not just abt the drifting but about the mechanics in general, it’s not perfect but what’s on display here is super fun to learn and the complaints abt unlocks and mechanics seem to just sound like they wanted sonic kart at this point but the experimentation and passion behind this game reminds me more of the best of early Sonics experimentation with different gameplay styles and I’ve been loving this game for it

Current thoughts: I have yet to reach a decent skill level and do all the tracks. I admit, the tutorial is longer than it needs to be (though new players would probably hate to go through what we all whent during srb2k release). A detailed description of what each item can do would be appreciated (especially the spinning top, its controls throw me off during drifts). Also, training players on very sharp turn should have been top priority (i'm too used to mindlessly pressing the gas mid turn).

Some criticism about this game: - The moveset and everything could be explained in few words and easily showcased, but instead they did literal essay and some parts of tutorial are almost impossible to beat if you haven't played SRB2K before (self propelled bomb sequence is best example of this) - the moveset is overloaded and not fun to control if you are focusing on finishing the race (it feels like devs had a lot of ideas for gameplay and applied them into huge cluster, basically instead of one source of speed, there are 3 sources of it which controls in different ways) Some pros about this game: - Great spriting and visuals - Unique aesthetics - Good music - The concept of ring-powered karts - Pretty decent storytelling and good writing Overall rating: 7/10

I unlocked Bean, Bomb and even Jack Frost so Honey deffo is in there. Plus you can look at the 3D models.dat file to see how many characters at least have 3D models

While the game truly is a work of art, it needs some heavy overhauling in places. My suggestions are: - Get rid of Ring Debt. Instead, map the insta-twirl to another button and make it cost 10 rings, giving the player a choice to either spend rings on a boost or a twirl. The ring-charged one will have a bigger range than the one with 0 rings - Slightly nerf the way steep slopes affect as rn they're impossible with 0 rings unless you stop and spin dash or quick respawn - Introduce an auto restrict system to MP where certain tracks with extreme narrow designs won't be selected if the player count exceeds 10 people, also just tweak some tracks in general - Seperate Accel/Confirm and Brake/Cancel from each other in Controls so you can properly map them - Seperate the ring boost and the item button. Put it in place of quick respawn, with further balancing, that button will not be needed imo - (Very) slightly tone down the speed of G2/G3 - Chao Keys will not only unlock the content of the achievement but also the text, giving further context to the player on what they should do to fully complete it - An optional post-main tutorial tutorial, focused on Battle Mode, items, how viable they are, and misc. stuff (air dash, electric drift) - Add a glowing visual cue to trick pads so the plaer can see them better - Nerf the knockback of green bumpers/spikes/0 rings state

characters can be unlocked in the achievements, go to extras and then i think "checklist" i dont know. its the screen with the unlockables. you can use keys to unlock stuff (1 for small 2 for medium ect)

The vanilla srb2k was 5 characters so start with 9 and all of them (beside the motorbug) are from Sonic Drift 2 is a nive detail (that is why Honey was not from the beggining).

It is v2. There was uproar within the community about how different this was to v1, so the devs decided to rename it to DRRR to distance this version a bit from that. But yes, this is technically still SRB2K.

(writing this in replies just to make it look less like stk advert) as an 1yr-ish supertuxkart player drrr feels like a continutation of a bad game that just randomly got a boom (= srb2k) with an attempt to cover its flawed base with a lot of cool details (yes this game oozes with style and that's cool...something that can't really be denied) base driving feel is way better in stk...grippy and responsive some collisions/mistakes can screw you up really hard but good controls allowed me to get better easily and avoid most of such mistakes (most because I'm not that much of a pro) drrr? the slippery controls are too hard to get used to in the first place while one mistake can be as bad as stk you're forced to get used to the bad controls if you want to get better at this game (and I didn't want to) don't forget the other possibly convoluted systems (rings, spin dash, directional influence on some damages, etc) in short: stk is easy to get into & easily likeable drrr is annoying to get into & better if you just watch other people play

don't get the whole negative attitude. yeah, the tutorial sucks and i happily skipped it after the whole "bomb is chasing you and gotta drift from it" bullshit. yeah, i found a main menu gimmick annoying, when the game doesn't give you a proper menu from the start and you need to read some dialogues for it. but after unlocking the main game the game is like really good. i already completed like three grand prix cups and to me it seems these levels don't use even a third of all mechanics from tutorial. i'm not familiar with srb2k's gameplay closely, and overall i have pretty small grasp of the way how each mario kart clone plays; but right now this is perfectly fine to me; good gameplay combined with some great presentation and overall graphics.
