I understand how you are trying to explain how to calculate a blended rate. Your math is spot on. But where you may have gone slightly off the rails a bit is in your assumptions on the ratio of X to XL rides. I'm sure things can vary substantially by market, but if your in any kind of reasonably urban market, and you know your market, you should be able to easily do 80%+ XL rides. A little over 2 years ago when I was first contemplating upgrading from an X vehicle to an XL vehicle, I did this exact same analysis assuming a 70/30 split X to XL rides ratio. Even at that split, I decided upgrading to XL would be worth it. Reality turned out that my real ratio is more like 95% XL rides, 5% X rides. It could easily be 100% XL, because I only even turn on X for very specific strategic reasons. Of course there has to be XL demand in your market, turns out in my market, there is. Additional financial reason, it's not just about the better pay rate. XL riders are overall, much better tippers. Yes, enough to make a difference. (at least in the US, I don't know of Australia has a tipping culture) Another reason, getting up *AND OUT* of driving X, to *ANY* of the higher tiers, has a whole bunch of intangible benefits. I'll put it this way, when you stop driving X... 95% of the riff-raff and associated problems, JUST. GO. AWAY. (again, at least in the US, I don't know if Australia rideshare has riff-raff problem, but I assure you, the US does).

Thats awesome news that you can achieve 95% XL rides, You must have good reviews from your customer. thanks for sharing your insight and I'm seeing more hybrid 7 seater car coming in the market. maybe that will improve uber xl driver margin?

@@OzRideshareTV For full disclosure, it's not an accident that I achieve 95% XL. 95% of the time I turn X off and only drive when XL demand is reasonably high. Fri & Sat night bar shift (8pm-3am), big events, and sometimes early (4-8am) airport dropoffs.

I'm trying to decide between a 7 seat Outlander and a 5 seat Corolla Fielder Hybrid. The Corolla has half the fuel consumption of the Outlander, but the Outlander is already much better than my current car. Do you reckon it's worth shelling out an extra few grand to do UberXL? I drive full time in Perth

I owned the Honda Odyssey 2018 Leather seats and top of the range. I will take my new tesla next week then, and im thinking to drive Odyssey for uber Xl in my spare time, may be 2 days a week ( about 20 hrs total ) do you think does it worth for me to keep odyssey to drive uber or rideshare platform ? I love driving and freedom to work for myself like this job Btw. I really like your video and sharing ! So helpful Many thanks

Glad you find it useful! It really depends on the difference between money you get from the trip vs the operating cost running the big car plus depreciation. My main concern is that You dont get uber XL rate 100% and have to take uber x rate when its quiet which will reduce your income by at least 20% . I think if you are not worried selling your odissey and just want to get extra cash uber xl may work, but you gotta be very smart with choosing location and time frame which will give you the most return. Most people aim for long and far airport trip, where they do need bigger car for luggage or family trip etc. With fuel getting more expensive it is wise to compare the odissey cost vs tesla cost per km. Congrats for getting a tesla tho, just make sure you stay away from flood areas.

Good question, well if You have an approximate data on km per litre for city driving and highway driving im sure we can estimate it using those numbers.

uberXl is more busier than uber x and you have three to four options , X , XL , Comfort, Pool, pet that's why UberXL have more jobs than uber X , This is my own experince I did both x and Xl
