Great stuff Jamie! Dyfi is quite an intimidating place initially in my opinion. I want to get back some time soon, and ride some of those trails you hit in the video.
@streetpigeonmtb Жыл бұрын
Cheers Andrew. Yeah, I'm with you. The slate is really challenging in the wet and the speed takes a bit of getting used to. It's amazing how much your confidence can grow on an uplift day though, and soon the intimidation gjves way to good times. I'd love to head back there 👌

So true about it being intimidating but when your there you start to love it. Been twice now and can’t wait to get back there.
@Chrissy-H Жыл бұрын
I’ve done 3 days there and do find it super intimidating. There isn’t much that I can’t get down on a bike usually, but I’ve found it impossible to build up and confidence there. The surface is loose in a lot of places and the jump faces are crazy steep.
@streetpigeonmtb Жыл бұрын
Well done for trying though. I'm the same with rocky, mountain trails. Despite my best efforts I still struggle to ride over chunky rock trails - it gets in my head every time 🙈

I went to Antur Stiniog with my bro a few weeks ago and I was bricking it. I don't ride bike parks much (at all) and I expected to be surrounded by pros, semi pros and KZbin shredders and to look like I'd never ridden a bike before. Instead I quickly turned into an absolute mentalist and after warming up on some 'easier' trails I was flying, pushing my limits and discovering that my bike could take more and more. It takes a while to recalibrate your brain to the speed. Once I did and I got used to letting the bike run I got faster and faster and ended up putting more pressure in my suspension and tyres and it felt absolutely brilliant. Modern bikes are incredible and I'm just scratching the surface of what I can do with it. I learned that if you trust your bike and don't overthink stuff you'll get down the hill. That said if you're NOT comfortable, just get off and walk it. Better to get off and live to ride another uplift than spanner yourself. And besides, we've seen you videos, we all know you're not 'average' 👊😉
@streetpigeonmtb Жыл бұрын
Hey mate. This comment is brilliant. I think you've just summed up perfectly what it feels like to arrive on an uplift day when it is not your usual style of riding. I'm with you on taking a sensible approach and just letting the speed build naturally. Awesome buddy 👌 Literally couldn't have put it better myself.

Very much sums up my feelings when I visited Antur last year. I only ride a short travel bike and was really worried it (and moreso myself) wouldn't cope. Instead like you soon found myself pushing myself and living it. Not saying I set the place in fire but for me it really left me buzzing. Not been to Dyfi, a few mates have recently and they came away loving it 😎

Enjoyed watching that one Jamie. You are absolutely right in that it takes a while to get used to the speed of the tracks. I've been 3 times & done multiple runs down the Motorway section. Each time I promise myself that I'm going to 'no brake' it to the end & every time I wuss out at some point! I'm told that if you don't touch the brakes at all on that section you hit about 40 mph / 60 km !!!

Think I need to get a full-susser! I've ridden at four bike parks now (gone back to the same ones a few years running) but all on my Marin hardtail. In my late 40's and trying to keep up with my son (also on a hardtail but his is more enduro style whereas mine is defo a trail bike) and it's starting to feel sketchy as bike parks push the boundaries nore and more. Any opinions on buying used? Do the bearings hold up? I don't use it often enough to justify new, especially with the gravel bike seeing more use.
@streetpigeonmtb Жыл бұрын
No issues with buying second hand as long as the bike gets a good check over. Bearings are consumables but you can easily check for play by giving the rear a wobble. TBH though, given the current climate it could be worth you just getting a new bike. Bonkers discounts right now and you will get a bargain with a warranty included. I can't see bikes offering this value ever again so may be something to think about 😁

@46holl ah nice. That is a bargain! Coils are more responsive, if a little dead feeling. Air is a bit less responsive and a bit more poppy feeling. It'll be enough bike, deffo. Tyres could be an issue though... I'd say EXO + at a minimum but DD for the ultimate reassurance. The grip is pretty low at Dyfi. The issue with EXO is you'll probably have to run them with a lot of air to prevent punctures which will lose you grip. That's my thoughts anyways.

There's really no other bikepark in the uk like Dyfi. It's intimidating, but alot of that comes from everyone saying it is. It's fast and steep and technical, but it's so well built that it makes you feel like a super hero! I remember doing my first run and thinking 'fuck this!'. And then you adjust to the speed and tech and then it all makes sense! 🤙
@streetpigeonmtb Жыл бұрын
Definitely. Have you been to Bike Park Wales? Thoughts?

I have and it doesn't compare to Dyfi in terms of steepness and technical riding. I love BPW but Dyfi is something else@@streetpigeonmtb

Thanks for video. Totally agree. Waste of time for riders not into airtime and very fast sketchy trails. In other words me. Gimme afan like trails anyday over a bike park.
@streetpigeonmtb Жыл бұрын
Haven't been to Afan. Have to say, Dyfi was way more accessible that I'd predicted and I think it is a awesome location for all folks to progress. Personally I absolutely loved it, appreciate it won't be for everyone though 👍

Completely disagree. Iv never ridden a uplift bike park before. Decided to give this a go as I live here. Lovey dyfi, super swooper and 50hits most can do
@Rich_Pick Жыл бұрын
The issue is with casual riders riding way beyond their skill level but not their bikes capabilities. Theres been a few times when ive come around a blind corner to find people stood in the middle of the track, or struggling to make it up a jump, oblivious to someone coming along the track at 20+mph... I'm all for helping people get a feature, but there needs to be some more self awareness and a few more practice runs on the reds at BPW.

I suppose the challenge is the only qualifier is being able to buy a ticket. I'm wondering if some additional rider info when you book somewhere might be helpful 🤷♂️ Not really sure of the solution.

Great vid, great riding..yes I don't think you are an "average " rider either. I would need to stop to change brake pads.

Ha ha. Yeah, my brakes were getting plenty use. Very fast trails indeed!

Would you be ok with a trail bike here with 150mm of travel or do you need a proper downhill bike ?
@streetpigeonmtb6 ай бұрын
I would say a trail bike would work for sure. Anything with modern geometry would be an advantage. If course, less travel might slow you down a bit but there would stull be plenty for you to do 👍

I don't know where your skills are at but there is deffo scope for most riders to have a good time there. Even if you rocked up and just rode Lovey Dyfi all day, sessioning to improve, it would be worth it IMO.

@streetpigeonmtb10 ай бұрын
I don't mind paying once in a while if I know it's going into maintenance and development 👍
@MartinTeerly10 ай бұрын
@@streetpigeonmtb to keep it maintained it would be enough to pay £5 for a day. Me my misses and our youngest ride and we live in the north of England. For us all to ride it's £300 to ride a bike in a forest 🤷🏻♂️ including fuel food and of course the cost of uplift. Very very expensive and not a family friendly place.
@streetpigeonmtb10 ай бұрын
@MartinTeerly have you ridden there?
@MartinTeerly10 ай бұрын
@@streetpigeonmtb no mate. I'm not spending that much money on a ride in the forest 🤷🏻♂️
@streetpigeonmtb10 ай бұрын
@MartinTeerly fair enough. It's more than a ride in the forest though. It's a legitimate bikepark with kilometeres of maintained trails and consistent development. One of the best biking locations in the UK for sure. To say it is just a ride in a forest is downplaying it a little. And I'm speaking as someone who rides both natural trails and from riding the park itself. Also, the idea that you could run this operation whilst charging people £5 per day isn't at all realistic 👍

Weekend warrior types and average cyclist should not watch a few red Bull videos, buy full face helmet and a chest protector and pretend to be pros at bike parks. It’s damn dangerous.
@streetpigeonmtb Жыл бұрын
Not sure I get you? Can't say I saw anyone pretending to be a pro on my Dyfi trip 🤷♂️ I just saw a load of folks having a good time, trying to progress and challenging themselves. Nothing wrong with that 😁
