Is Evan Mobley worth the rookie max extension? | Cleveland Cavaliers

Looking ahead to the offseason, a lot of issues remain unresolved for the Cleveland Cavaliers. When it comes to Evan Mobley, the situation might be pretty straightforward.
At the 43:41 mark in the newest episode of his Hoop Collective podcast, ESPN's Brian Windhorst speculated the Cavs are "gonna extend Mobley probably at the max, probably in very, very early July."
Mobley is eligible to sign an extension this summer, a year out from his restricted free agency in 2025.
The 22-year-old doesn't profile as an immediate flight risk because he's under contract for 2024-25 and the Cavs will have matching rights if he becomes a restricted free agent.

Bruh has Mobley done anything? If you haven’t made an all-star team, I’d be hesitant to give him all that cash. Let him wait to RFA and just match any offer. Not gonna reward him on potential and flashes. I’m burned from DG. If Mobley kills it next year, make it rain on that man.

I’ll say this mobley real potential has been hindered because garland Allen Mitchell and even levert shoot as many as shots as him and he really a center like Chet and wemby but he hasn’t had the space to work with because those guys I would keep Mitchell get rid of those other guys and bulked around Mitchell and monkey and give him the max we will the see a all star even Mobley

Are you kidding me??? his elite defense was equally, if not more responsible for the opening series win, in which he was a defensive NIGHTMARE for the Magic all series long. He held Banchero to 28% shooting when he covered him one on one for the series. He shut Banchero down in one on one situations in games 1, 2 & 4 to the point where when Banchero was matched up one on one with Mobley, he began passing out to other teammates, knowing he couldn't beat him one on one, thus forcing the ball out of the hands of the Magic's best player on multiple occasions. When Jarrett Allen went out injured and Mobley was forced to play center and was no longer defending Banchero all game, what a shock... Banchero went batshit the rest of the series. But even then, when Mobley did match up one on one on in the limited situations while playing center, he STILL shut Banchero down. He had countless blocks and steals. He made the game wining block in game 5 on Franz Wagner. I've literally never seen a game winning BLOCK, and I've been watching the NBA since the '80s. This is all besides the fact that he still has an extremely high ceiling offensively, and gets better every year. So, in short, YES, Mobley absolutely deserves, and will get a max rookie extension. The future and present of the team are Mitchell & Mobley. Watch what happens when they lock up both and move JA & DG for more off ball shooters and balance the roster out. This team will skyrocket to one of the top 5 contender in the league, easily.

Even mobile just needed more shots he averaged 11 shots a game when he took 25 shots a game against Boston in the playoffs he scored 30 JB need to be fired because he's not giving Evan the ball in the right spots. That's what's wrong with this team and we need an athletic Wing two of them

I am with you guys. I saw him pass out of situations where he should have imposed his will far too many times to see him as a top player in this league. Right now, any number of players from Pablo to Scotty to Victor to Chet seem very clearly better than him. Based on what I'm seeing, this looks like a guy content to ride his considerable talent to a career as a 15 year quality player, and retire with a pile of cash. Something like a taller, more athletic Channing Frye. Will probably get a ring, sometime, somewhere but only as a third banana.

Mobley made 1st defensive team. He is a menace defensively. Then, can he grow? Yes. Worth TODAY rookie max? No. He has 1 year. If he remains this, we should offer 25 per year. But he has some flashes from 3, from driving and from passes. He won't be Jokic, but he can be Evan Mobley++

50 million/yr salary is the max numbers for FA with 10 years or more of nba experience. The less than 6 year max number is a lot less. This contract is going to look a lot more like DG’s contract and DG still has real trade value even with that contract. This level of talent even on the Rookie max is not the same risk as was discussed on this segment.

The entire premise of your absurd argument is based on a lie. Both Mobley and Okoro have gotten better every year, both on offense and defense. Okoro went form being a complete liability on offense, to a solid contributor on open 3s and slashing to the rim. Mobley did nothing but dunk his entire rookie year, and has continued to grow his offensive game around the basket with more physicality, moves & hooks. His 3 point shot is night and day better. Both play excellent defense, and Mobley's ELITE defense was as responsible for winning the Orlando series and Mitchell's offense was, if not more so. He shut Banchero down games 1, 2 & 3. Held him to 28% shooting for the series. Was responsible for countless blocks and steals. Had the only game winning block at the rim I've ever seen in game 5 on Franz Wagner. When Jarrett Allen went out & Mobley played center and was no longer covering Banchero, what a surprise, he went batshit there rest of the series. But Mobley STILL shut him down on the occasions he was matched up one on one with him. Try watching a game or two before you pop off about things you know nothing about.
