Vieira is a dominant player and presence when we are in possession, without being physically imposing. He started out virtually anonymous but the past few performances, although short, have shown he is determined to be an instigator, so for me all he needs is that extra burst and capacity in the press. He's an absolute baller, we all agree. It's surprising that Alex doesn't think he has the capacity for big moments... I'd argue that's literally all the potential he's shown thus far and is why he's not challenging for a place yet. It's the other stuff that should be more in question. Also... I'm not 100% sure that Vieira knows what he is yet, which can't help much with his integration in the press etc.

I think that, with FV, his issue is more mental than physical. When Ødegaard joined us, he also had a slight frame and was very easy to knock off the ball but look at him now. I don’t think FV has that warrior mindset we need, he’s a late Wenger era player who just wants to play pretty football and almost gets upset when the opponents play fast, tough and physical football. He’s like a football purist who believes the game should be played a certain way, and wants everyone to adapt to him rather than the other way around. Of course I don’t know him and I can’t say this with any authority. I just think it’s really telling that he’s been fit for ages but barely gets a look in despite his obvious talent. It’s got to be a mindset thing

The main issues with Fabio is: What position does he fit into this team? Lacks the pace out wide, lacks the physically Is he athletic enough to play at the intensity required for this current pressing system? Ø, Havertz & Rice are setting the standard when it comes to pressing Does he understand the system from a tactical perspective? In the games that he’s started (particularly last season) he seemed to follow Martinelli around rather than progress the ball from midfield

Arteta wants players that can consistently win duels and put tackles in. That’s the common thing I’ve seen. If a player can’t win those physical battles he has a hard time choosing them most of the time. If Fabio adds that steeliness to his game he’d start a lot of games.

@@BrianConlon-ng5bw Have you watched the last 4 seasons? Listened to Mikels interviews and press conferences? It’s pretty obvious, Fabios lack of winning those physical battles has made it hard for him to get more minutes. The G/As are there, but Mikel is a stickler for all the non-g/a stuff that helps us prevent goals and dominate games.

There is more to football than duels. You don’t ask a player like him to win you physical battles , thats not him.

And that is something Mikel has to work on interpreting which situations to gamble and give up duel winning in exhange for higher quality in final actions which have high value as well. It’s risk reward. That’s why Fabio has always been a good super sub, like Troussard. I’m not defending Mikel by any means. Just pointing out the “why”. The answer is perhaps (maybe) that all the data analysis proves duel winning is higher value and leads to better results more consistently. This is how terms like boring football from City emerge. More often than not they do the things that leads to wins. Whether they are pretty or not. It’s all moneyball. I dunno. But we lack mobil technicians and creators in the final 3rd at times. It’s a bit stiff at the moment.

His problem is just his weight which doesn't support his workrate but he has sthg no one has in our squad first time balls either with a Goal or a pass nothing to smear it like vasline as odegaard does. Hav u ever thought about his off ball capabilities coz mikel considers those two things on and off ball at times all at once

he has great qualities on the ball, but too much unidimensional for my taste to become a great player. especially in today's football where versatility is the key.

Funny how Alex is the one claiming about lack of evidence when all of his arguments are based upon things we clearly have 0 clue about- training, mentality etc. While the people showing faith in Vieira are doing it because they have SEEN it- not because of assumptions.

@@DiffKnockLive Or the team dynamics aren't right to involve him. Similar to how Gabriel couldn't get in the team at the beginning of the season, when we were inverting our RB- since he couldn't play CCB. Rice hasn't adapted to the #6 role so still has a claim over the left 8, hard to replace Odegaard's workrate- lots of reasons to believe maybe it's just a waiting game for him & ESR. All we know for now is, Alex clearly wants him dead.

I don't think that's what Arteta thinks. I don't think the issue is he doesn't think Vieira can win him games, I think he's worried that he can lose them for us. All I remember of his last appearance for us, a late sub appearance, he was running around like crazy. Give it time. And also stop being jealous of Foden. I'm pretty sure Arteta would bollocks our players if they started taking shots from range.

My friends from Portugal rated Fabio highly when we signed him said he was a tekky player , But I've been an arsenal fan long enough to know sometimes your gonna have to play rugby where ya tekky skills get nullified , Probably needs a loan move to get more first team games to get him built up a bit ,

Viera is physically weak and has no pace. Doubt if he can make it in the EPL. His agent is Mendes, Edu's friend. Signed at 35m? Need an investigation . Pepe all over again.
