Is FPV Dying?

Is FPV dying? Was it ever even a thing? Is our hobby being ruined? To answer that lets go on a brief and incorrect history of fpv!

As long as you me and nearly every second and first grade military are flying FPV FPV is not dead. BTW i think the Mr Stelele era was really the UAVFutures era. Stew had more viewers/influence than Steve in those days and probably pulled more people into FP, although Steele was deffo one of the premiere pilots of the era. #ruined_the_hobby

I honestly wasn't happy with giving it to Steele there I was just lazy and couldn't think of a better name for that time period.

Who needs to be cool when we can *fly*? I think for every dude posting videos wanting ego boosts there are at least ten dudes and one lady (lol) just flying for the (fun, thrill, delight, mental relief) of it. Thanks for the history lesson. Every time I see a video that says ‘FPV is dying’ I think about my lovely weekly+ flights, the active Reddit, discord, and Facebook groups and say ‘Nah.’ Also I teach build and fly skills for a middle school club and pletnty of kids are interested. No way it’s dying unless gov decides to crack down even harder.

FPV as the OGs have seen it is definitely dead. But it is very much alive, it’s just different now. Now we have scooter kids at the skatepark. Same same. The core dudes are still rippin’ and if not they will be back. I took a 5 year break and now I’m back!

Creators have given up with analog - nooobs and kids just don’t have dji money, JB says the market says otherwise- but then again of COURSE he would! 😅 2nd hand market in analog is still booming but the entry price point with digital has got RIDICULOUS! fk all to do with “looking cool” brother and EVERYTHING thing to do with newcomers being priced out of the hobby! Simple as that! Few years back an fpv setup could be a Christmas gift etc whereas now you’d be lucky to get a digital cam and vtx for the same price! 😂

I think what helped me more than anything was trying to do a season of IGOW (International Game of Whoop). When I went to apply those skills to larger quads like 3”, 4”, 5” it was so much easier and more controlled. Consider adding a tiny whoop to train on if you want to go to freestyle stuff after learning cinematic on your Avata. P.S. if you don’t want to follow us to the dark side of spending lots of money on DIY, you can just enjoy flying your Avata lol.
