That's not the greatest of ideas. Africa struggles to develop without outside investment, as evident with its relative decline post-independence and current reliance and debt towards China. I think that if CANZUK were to ever bear fruit, if the East African Federation were also a member state it could see incredible GDP growth through way of resumed 'Imperial preference', legislative guidance, and focused foreign aid payment.

I assume you're not familiar with Mali, which is what these idiots mean by "east Africa." The nation is broken with the formal government only controlling certain areas and rebels and jihadis and tribes controlling most remote areas. Their army... Has no idea what they're doing and lack basic industry to build basic weapons. Ergo, they get a first world ally to help them, and that's mostly what France did. Provide trainers, mechanics, air support, and other technical stuff. Then there was a whole drama where France decided Mali wasn't worth the money and risk to their own men, then the Malian government started talking about hiring Russian mercenaries (France's enemy), and later Mali announced France wasn't quitting because they fired them.
