Can't believe I actually need to say this, but indeed, when a weapon's passive doesn't work, it isn't as good. Thought it was self evident that prototype isn't as valuable against enemies that don't have weakpoints. If you left an angry comment about it, you might also want to know that : -Ganyu isn't as good if you miss your charged shots! -Ganyu isn't as good against cryo slimes! Hope that helps

I think u underestimate ganyu because if u play very casual maybe u dont play ever event and dont do ur daylies every day or are just a new player but u still want to get 36 stars but u can only get like 3 5 star characters ganyu is definetly one of the best characters in that situation because ganyu is the only character that is very good against any type of enemies because of her consistancy and her versitility. So lets u can get 2-3 5* which one do u pick up? The best 2 options are kazuha and ganyu. Kazuha is obvious but ganyu is on average still on the same level as hutao or ayaka maybe even slightly ahead because of her consistancy. Lets say u fight a thundermanifestation in 12/3. If u have a non bow dps u have like a 3 second dps window and then whats gonna happen is that the enemy is flying around for like 30 seconds in which u camt deal any dmg to them while ganyu can do chargedattack after chargedattack. Yes yoimiya would be better in that situation but lets say u have an abyss with a lot of enemies yoimiya is not gonna do the job for u because shes only singletarget yes in that szenario ayaka might be better but maybe there are some cryo enemies then u can play meltganyu and u are fine. Or lets say they do something like stealing ur cooldowns or energy again literly every dps gets screwed except for ganyu and ayaka because they dont rely on only cooldowns to deal dmg. Notice how in all of these situations ganyu is always one of the best options? Thats why i think she is one of the best dps in the game.

@@kuukyo2586 yup Ganyu is extremely risky and value drops rock bottom for people with skill issues, may it be naturally bad, laggy device, born special etc. Where as other unit such as spamming normal attacks after Yelan burst or press Ayaka burst to 36* abyss is more user friendly for those in needs.

Ayaka main since I started the game. Oceanid is ez until birds. Can't hit them unless you use ult, and even then sometimes you'll miss and it feels impossible to get them to group again. Pulled ganyu recently by accident and I have her as an oceanid bot haha

Ganyu basically kickstarted my ability to consistently 36* abyss, and she's been doing solid still to this day. Other 5* are better than her now, but she'll always have my appreciation for reliable she's been. Also, a madlad named Ken Rurouni has been soloing floor 12 with her c0 r1 since forever and it still remains impressive to this day.

@@deaddrvgster Yea the burning is tricky to work around, but it is doable. I find trying to move behind the dendro bird to be effective when close to it so you can potentially dodge it applying Dendro to you. Failing that, you swap off ganyu for a bit to battery bennett or refresh the shield. Failing both of these, I recommend using Melt Ganyu on the first half instead

Been using Ganyu for a year now. For those who really want TL:DR. She's the type of character that's very very hard to go wrong. She'll only go wrong if you never likes her playstyle. She's a versatile unit. But if you didn't find her playstyle fun, Ayaka will be the better option since in-term of DPS, both are very good. Debating over 2 good unit is an absolute waste of time.

Really like how Zajef addressed the over-world and QoL things, since for most players the abyss is something they do once a few weeks, but the commissions and domains are a daily thing. That said, Ganyu's CA get perma-walled by small hilichurls with shields, unless frozen, so there's that.

Ganyu is good (not broken) and adding an extra 30% team damage from whaling might make her seem better than she actually is. It is also just so much easier to understand how much damage you are doing at a glance with something like melt Ganyu than it is with something like a teaser comp. At least without actually having to do math (which most content creators don't bother with).

The only content that can't be frozen are bosses, and she is great at dealing with bosses. She has like a 3 seconds setup an 5 seconds burst. As long as you anticipate the vulnerability phase she is golden. Also, half as good? Idk man, average Ayaka's should aim for 400 crit value , meaning that she only looses ~10% dmg , maybe. "She specifically better against large monsters that can be frozen or bosses that dont move." She is specifically good against everything that is not cryo immune or the Coral Defenders. "Any content you can suck with Venti and Ganyu straight up better ." No she is not, I did the math, Ganyu is only better in AOE in only 2 scenarios, and out of the 2, one of them cannot exist, so Ayaka is better in AOE in all but 1 scenarios.

Another small note from one of the starting points, there are niche situations where Ganyu can perform very very well when the devs decide to restrict burst or skill, like when they have slowing water aura that increases cooldowns, or lower damage on burst/skills from event conditions.

@@KenEurolfan Worth keeping in mind that the reason it guts a lot of characters is not because of the mechanic, but rather because of the numbers Hoyoverse has used for the mechanic. They could easily do a 25 or 50% increase, rather than 100% or 200% increase. But, well, probably the same guy that came up with the numbers for melt/vaporize did that one hydro slow domain in Mondstadt. Also worth noting that we have multiple electro enemies that drain our characters' energy, which is another mechanic that encourages playing characters not as reliant on bursts (or else using more things that promote energy regen). Wouldn't be surprised if we see that next Abyss cycle, since energy regen is a Dori mechanic.

I can't believe you didn't address Ganyu's high skill ceiling. Almost no other C0 unit can solo clear abyss 36-stars as comfortably as Ganyu can. It's pretty dank, but given that you are able to pull off every charge attack animation cancel with no down time inbetween the charge shots, then she can meet the abyss DPS threshold as a solo C0 unit. E.g. watch Ken Rurouni for very impressive F2P Ganyu gameplay. His solo Ganyu DPS uptime across 90 seconds per chamber is extremely impressive. I do have to agree that Ayaka is 100x easier to play and way more comfy to play. Ganyu is quite painful to play in many of her teams, e.g. try Melt Ganyu without shielder...

@@ame5851 you're waiting 2 seconds for every single shot. Sometimes she needs 2 shots. Yelan takes 0.5 second to shoot. 1 shot is almost always enough. By the time you reach next group, 5 seconds have already reset. That 5 sec cooldown is a non-issue. In practice, over a meat/fowl hunting route, Yelan will always be significantly faster than Ganyu. Another factor to consider, Yelan is adult female so she has fast sprinting, fast climbing, fastest swimming and her E is the fastest form of travel in the entire game (also lines up great with Sayu E). Meanwhile teen females are just slow at everything except swimming, sadly.

For me Gun Yuu is literally the reason I'm playing the game now. Her playstyle with aimed charged shots is really made for people like me. And her do-it-all kit can also be utilized for other characters support quite effectively, like Ayaka for example. Arguably, Ganyu can even replace Shenhe in Ayaka freeze team as a support.

I have both Ayaka and Ganyu and I agree with Zajef, but I honestly prefer units like Ayato and Ganyu because they trivialize overworld content and they both output high damage with little to no drawback (Raiden and Ayaka's damage output kinda reliant on burst for example). I don't regret pulling for her so if you like Ganyu and don't find charged shots to be boring then I recommend her

I have Ayato too though I rarely use her in overworld unless I have to run over water to get somewhere. Overworld is too easy if you have well-built characters no matter what drawbacks they have. Kazuha and Childe have been my favorites for Sumeru exploring

I would say that's a problem only for burst infusion units like raiden, xiao and itto. Or units whose damage outside of burst is non existent. Ayaka with her in built infusion and E is more than enough(although not on par with ganyu, ayato, yoimiya) for overworld content.

I honestly think she's the best non-anemo unit for overworld. Its insane how often I can just stand on a nearby hill and kill an entire group without them being able to attack me.

She is good . Ayaka is slightly more popular since she is easier to make a team for (and she is better for freeze which hard counters some of the more annoying enemies like Geovishaps) . That said , both of them are very good (I do advise you to check your units before pulling for Ganyu . Half her teams need specific 5 stars to be easy to use)

It wasn't a mistake. Sure, she was a big step up when she first came out, bu tnow? She's just another five star DPS. My guess is that what happened is that, after players played with the characters for a bit, and the power of certain four stars became evident, as well as how many of the five stars were kind of lackluster, Hoyoverse adjusted the power level they wanted both five and four stars to be. Gotta have people wanting to shell out cash for the five stars, after all. The end result, the DPS five stars from that point on mostly perform at about the same level as Ganyu, the start of the new norm. And the four stars have been kinda there and/or overly niche.

@@Axterix13 She really is not. And I dont even like ganyu and have 8 dps 5 stars now total (for example i find tighnari more fun to play along with some other dps). Ganuy is still going strong af and still mostly uncontested as an aoe elemental dps with element available 100% of the time with crazy multipliers. With the same investment shes the only one who can charge attack at ~100k like its nothing even with a freaking 4 star bow, only one 5 star who has 100% uptime on her element and can hit airborm targets *and* does aoe damage. Sure its fkn boring to many. But her usefullness cant be overstated

You cant be on a downfall if you have already fallen for a while. Versatility is pointless in genshin if it isnt the kazuha-type of versatility. She is a generic dps that has the same fate of losing to ayaka and raiden, which is simply disappointing for today's standards. Melting a 600 multiplier with 1.5s cooldown is highly overrated

Most people would not fkn bother with the mobs or bosses that cant fly or run away like that hydra boss if they need to constantly fight them without an easy way to kill them. Ganyu makes a lot of annoying sh&^%t less annoying. Its worth a fortune Ayaka and raiden are both fine dps but theyre burst close range dps. *They* can be replaced by anyone and you wont even notice. I have all 3 and in terms of convenience ganyu is still number one and raiden is the last. They also all have nothing on a aoe bow user.

I don't think Zajef have a must pull unit in general because you can clear content if you've invested time into building even 4-star characters. At this point, I just pull for comfort while playing the game, Zhongli, Kokomi, Kazuha, Ganyu (prayge), and Yelan in the future. I think comfort puts so much value rather than damage. I've had Ganyu since her first run and have used her with Blackcliff Warbow this entire time and it's accessible to everyone, even F2P. It serves her well no matter what position you place her into. If you don't want to play with Charged Shots simply don't. The great thing about Ganyu is that she's really versatile as well unlike other units who are pigeon holed into a single role. As an on field charge shot dps she's incredible. As a support she still has a massive area of effect on her burst and can have basically 100% uptime on her cryo application. That makes her incredible as a support for pyro units in a melt team and insanely good in a freeze team. Blizzard Strayer existing means I can build nothing but Crit Damage on Ganyu and still get up to 75% crit rate in freeze teams entirely for free (40% from Blizzard Strayer, 15% from Cyro Resonance, 20% if you're using her Charge Shots). Also her skill taunts which can be useful but will vary from person to person. There's so much quality of life baked into the one character that she will never be a "bad" pull for anyone who wants her. Edit: Also, the Genshin community as a whole has a terrible habit of devaluing anything that doesn't blatantly increase a dps counter and undervaluing ease of use and comfort. Those last two things are the entire reason anyone anywhere play Zhongli. His resistance shred buff that enabled him to break the game don't even get mentioned by most next to how fat his shield is. Ganyu, like Yoimiya, has ranged dps which is a huge advantage in quite a bit of content and against some of the game's most annoying enemies. Everyone complains about spectres and the wolflord and others because they're so bent on poking it with their sticks instead of firing a cannon at it from range. There is inherent value in having a unit dedicated to ranged dps on your account even if many refuse to admit it.

I find Zajef to be very knowledgeable. I find though the comparison of the freeze teams to be lacking due to him not having a Ganyu on any of his accounts, and I think the analysis and comparison of it to the Ayaka freeze teams to be too dependent on calculations that have overly strict assumptions built in. I have experience with both, and I think there are some details being glossed over. Ayaka variation does much better on bosses and single target and still does very well on enemies that can be pulled and on enemies that can't be pulled. In practice though, enemies that can't be pulled and who are heavier, Ayaka freeze teams do well but are worse than Ganyu freeze teams since it is significantly more difficult to hit all of the enemies with her burst when they can't be pulled. In abyss 3.0, hitting all the Vishaps in 12-3-1 is quite difficult, and even doing it requires wasting time on positioning them. It's still very fast with Ayaka, but on Ganyu variations, even losing perfect quadratic scaling on the burst for those three Vishaps, the simple fact that all three can be consistently hit makes the runs faster and smoother. Additionally, a lot of the calculations I see don't take into account the fact that larger enemies get hit by more icicles within Ganyu's burst since more random icicles hit, and the variation is quite large. Many heavy enemies who are incapable of being pulled routinely get hit by about twice the number of icicles as human-sized enemies. Ayaka freeze has the major benefit of still being good for lots of bosses which has been fairly important in abyss over the past year, but in practice, Ganyu freeze teams do better in aoe regardless of how heavy the enemies are as long as they are freezable. Again, I find Zajef to be very knowledgeable, but I think this particular take here was inaccurate. Edit: One other thing to add is that I find the term front loaded thrown around a lot for Ayaka's burst, but this is a bit inaccurate since setup times for buffs, debuffs, and freeze that are needed to maximize that damage aren't being accounted for, and those usually take 10 or so seconds from the rotation. Another thing to note is that concentrating damage in a short instance is both good and bad. For enemies with short dps windows, it's very good. In cases where you have multiple waves and where a single stored burst is overkill, any overkill damage becomes wasted dps. Again, Ayaka freeze is amazing, but these are details that don't get covered a lot and aren't realized until you've experienced both teams.

In 12-3-1 though, I do find that floor to actually be more suited to Ayaka than Ganyu, the point being that Ayaka unlike Ganyu can potentially shred the entire first wave in one rotation or even one burst cycle while with Ganyu (Morgana that is) it is basically impossible. This means you're looking at potentially sub 40 second clear with Ayaka teams while Morgana needs even at highest investment 3 15 second rotations to clear. It's definitely possible to hit all 3 vishaps with one burst for Ayaka, and when you do it's better damage than Ganyu variations because the vishaps bodyblock each other from getting hit by the AoE of the icicles that hit the other vishaps. That's the main problem with Ganyu and heavy enemies, Morgana just doesn't get to work at its full effectiveness because the enemies don't get pushed close enough for true quadratic scaling. There's also the fact that there's an imbalance in HP, which means your DPS on the big vishap will go down quite a bit when the small vishaps die, as you lose any semblance of quadratic scaling that you had previously. AFAIK, the breakpoint for Ganyu to outperform Ayaka burst is for 30 icicles to hit at least 3 enemies (meaning even if larger hitboxes can potentially get more than 10 icicles triggered, unless you hog a huge portion of the burst radius like Azhdaha can, you rarely can brute force your way up to 30), and even then its important to realize that Ayaka does that damage in 5 seconds vs Ganyu's 15, allowing you to nuke down one-wave of content in a way that no other character can. Because of these restrictions for Ganyu, it's the reason why most theorycrafters would prefer Ayaka over Ganyu nowadays. I've never pulled for Ayaka, and I don't plan to myself. My Ganyu and Morgana tends to make short work of everything in abyss that freeze can deal with, and I never use her for anything other than content suited for freeze, so I don't see Ayaka being worth it. Even so, my best Morgana Ganyu run for 12-3-1 was in the order of 50 seconds or so, whereas I've seen Ayakas shred 12-3-1 in sub 30 seconds due to her frontloaded damage and higher damage per rotation. There's also the fact that Ayaka has more room for improvement, you could always whale for Mistsplitter, Constellations, and Shenhe and make your Ayaka even better whereas Ganyu doesn't have good 5 star bows, constellations, and Shenhe doesn't work as well due to the cooldown mismatch (20 vs 15 second rotations).

@@aerohydra3849 5 second to 15 second comparison for the bursts isn't completely accurate since it requires buff and debuff setup time. I typically require 10 seconds of setup time before ever casting the first burst with the setup largely consisting of positioning and setting up freeze. If you look at most clears, most hoover around a minute for 12-3-1. I can get 38k burst ticks with a mistsplitter. I haven't single rotated on the first 3 Vishaps, and I haven't seen a KZbin clear with a true single rotation either (many require a multitude of CA spams which I don't consider true single rotation since usually they take nearly as long as a rotation). The grouping is exceedingly unreliable with the vast majority of the clear attempts having the burst only hit 1 or 2 Vishaps at a time. Even on floors with just two heavy enemies, hitting both is a chore a lot of the time. Again, I don't find Ayaka bad in these situations. The team is still incredibly good. I just find it to be slightly worse.

Honeslty not able to hit the three vishap with Ayaka ultimate is positioning issue. Ganyu is good in AoE content that is too easy to tackle just by using Venti alone. I don't even remember the last time Ganyu was better in AoE content than Ayaka. Ayaka's ability to easily frontload 500k+ damage with a single ult is much more valuable to me than the slow sustained Ganyu's ult.

As someone who plays both, I find ayaka to be less reliable at hitting all the vishaps. However, when you do (it's not very difficult) the clear times are noticeably faster. Positioning is very important with ayaka; take your time to find the right angle, there's no rush. The enemies are frozen anyways, and your damage is frontloaded.

People always be comparing Ganyu to Ayaka but people don’t think about using Ayaka WITH Ganyu. My current abyss team with Ganyu is Ganyu/Kokomi/Kazuha/Ayaka. It’s not a cheap team for new players but boi it is effective in Abyss. Ayaka basically becomes burst support while you have Ganyu doing the big dmg when Ayaka’s burst is on its long cooldown. (I know Shenhe is really good and probably better with Ayaka but I don’t have her and Ganyu’s charge shots do more than Ayaka’s charge attacks.)

So the idea behind using both Ganyu and Ayaka also extends to the fact that Ganyu burst has good scaling especially with ventiable content. Whilst Ganyu Ayaka isn’t as good as shenhe Ayaka pairing in bossing or 1-2 enemy scenarios, it likely will outperform most other freeze teams out there when you have 3+ enemies as Ganyu burst has quadratic scaling and layering that on top of Ayaka burst is absolutely amazing damage.

I actually think Ayaka is slightly overrated lol . Half her meta state comes from freeze being overpowered and Hoyovers showed they nurf those kinds of playstyles (shields and anemo cc got nurfed as and example) . Also , any fast boss and she starts missing her burst and have to run after them across the stage (while Ganyu always in attack distance) . Ayaka is just slightly more usefull in the current Abyss meta(which will obviously change at some point). That said , both are a very solid unit.

I dont even think she got powercrept . Like the only time Ayaka straight up better is few big mobs scenario. Any aoe , Ganyu > Ayaka. Any boss , Ayaka starts missing q and her damaged starts plummeting. Hell , if its fast boss , Ganyu still one of the top options since she doesnt need to chase him . Yoymia will probably be better for that but you need to reach that level first - and her aoe doesnt exist.

one thing to add is that some poeple enjoy charge shot bow characters and ganyu is still the best one out and looking at tighnari i dont see them releasing a better one anytime soon. so if you enjoy aiming in games you might want to pull. also when it comes to quality of life: ganyu basically counters all of those shitty domains that increase cooldowns or take your energy all of those things that make it tough for burst units or even units that rely on their E. she also has infinite range as long as you kill units before they reset when you are too far away. you can clear stuff like the 2 hillichurl towers or small mob groups from a long distance which saves time. also she is one of the few units in the game that has 2 completely different but viable playstyles in freeze and melt. yes a ot of the top tier units have different meta teams but hu tao , yelan, raiden and XL and ayaka always do the same thing while melt and freeze ganyu feel like two different units, to me at least.

For abyss where mobs and CC are required and the enemies not being resistant to cryo (this is often the case imo), I pretty much only use the Morgana team with Ganyu, Venti, Mona and Rosaria. It's so comfy and not that hard to use. For abyss focused on single target enemies/bosses etc. I pretty much only use Hu Tao double hydro unless they're resistant to Pyro (rarely the case). For bosses, freeze doesn't work so... Ganyu and Ayaka both have their own areas of expertise where they can truly shine imo but I rarely find a scenario where I use my Ayaka because single target freeze is meh compared to CC freeze granted you do actually need the specific units for a Morgana team comp compared to Ayaka who isn't as picky about her team. Ayaka also works in a Morgana team but I just find Ganyu a lot easier to work with.

Ganyu is the character I'm pulling for because I'm a newer player and I don't have a hyper carry or units to do insane DPS right now. My only other 5 stars are ZL, Mona and a c1 Qiqi. For DPS I have to depend on a C0 razor who fell off now that I'm doing ar 50+/ lvl 80+ content.

Mona and Zhongly are Ganyu's best supports(+Bennet and Xianling that everyone has) so you have that going for you . Also , she is actually comparable to Ayaka (they each have scenarios where they better) and is very simple to use . The only reason avoiding her is if you hate charge shots (a lot of players think its a boring playstyle) . All in all , she is very strong and hard carried my account for quite a while

Ganyu IS better than Ayaka. And this comes from an Ayaka simp. Good luck not missing her burst, you need cc like Kazuha or Venti (the same as in Ganyu's team), Ganyu can play Melt and dish out more damage overall, Hunter's path is her BiS for Melt, he didn't address that and only talked about Freeze. Pulled her back in 3.0, loved her so much I got her C6 and R1 Amos. After getting her melt team (Xianglin Sucrose Diona) and Raiden (Xingqui Bennet/Jean Sara) R1 Engulfing....I gotta say Ganyu is my favorite character by far. 36*, overworld, any challenge she just destroys. My only regret is not getting her R5, not even because of the damage but I just like her hahaha

When I was new I pulled ganyu (and previously Eula) because of how broken everyone said she was, and after I dove deeply into genshin meta, I personally came to regret it feeling that Ayaka freeze was generally stronger especially without venti and melt ganyu felt worse than other bennet teams. Question of preference . Ayaka looses a lot of value when freeze doesnt work .Ganyu better against Hydro Mimics and AOE(also fast bosses) , Ayaka better against few big mobs you can freeze (and bosses that DONT move a lot ) . It all comes down to what you missing in your account and which play stile you prefer . Hu Tao has insane damage but I despise her playstyle .

Even on my pure atk/cryo/crit Ganyu (Mostly for open-world, but C2 Kazuha makes it work in melt too), I just use Wanderer's instead of Shime. I used Shime for the longest time, and I can't explain how much that set gradually started to annoy me more and more. There were cases I wouldn't use the burst since I wanted a shield and wasn't mobbing, but then on the next chamber I'd wanna use the burst. Even just swapping artifacts is getting more and more tedious without loadouts, so I don't even wanna change between floors anymore, especially cause those 2shime sets get great use.

I have both Ganyu and Ayaka, and I vastly prefer running Ganyu freeze due to how easy it is to pilot. Ease of use is certainly a consideration, right? Just turn your brain off and spam all your bursts off cooldown, and everything will die automatically to Venti suction / Ganyu icicles. Don't even need to charge shot if you don't want to. That being said, there have been occasions when the team (or at least the team played badly like that) didn't have enough DPS to full clear, so I had to switch to something different. So if you want something that will always carry, Ganyu might not be it. But when she works, she WORKS. Case in point, current Abyss 12 top half is prime Ganyu/Venti mobbing grounds.

This man actuaclly doesnt play with prototype. More and more enemy just dont have a weakspot. It's mean for a bunch enemy it's passive just useless. however 5* bows works everytime. And it's fucking annoing hits weakspot in freeze team before q.

I respect your position when you mention Ganyu does not increase account's value too much. Explained very well, math and theory and all - I am convinced. However - based on my experience, Ganyu made my ABYSS CONSISTENTLY 36stars when I got her. I didn't even need to do Ganyu melt. (My best artifacts is with Ganyu) Thus to be honest, I think Ganyu is still way broken. No need fancy anything with melt, freeze or swirl. Pew pew all the way. (no rotations)

PS: Was able to get Amos bow from standard banner. It just made it stronger but not necessary. I mostly just use Ganyu and shield her with Diona/Zongli = ez 36 stars. You dont even need to use the 3rd and 4th slot.

Thing is, if you have Ayaka instead of Ganyu you also would have 36 starred the abyss consistently and probably even easier. It's not so much a question of "is Ganyu still good." Ganyu is still great, it's just that Ayaka has overtaken her for the most part. So when asked if you should pull for Ganyu, it's fair to say that maybe you should wait for Ayaka if you only care about getting a cryo dps.

I have both. But I feel I need to do rotations with Ayaka to funnel energy into her and make most of other users to boost her. With Ganyu, I don't even need to run any comp. No freeze, no melt, no swirl and NO ROTATIONS. Just pew pew with Diona shield or Zongli. My other team in abyss is more fun with rotations, eg national, hyper hutao or tazer. I feel that @zajef dont have too much experience using Ganyu. In my experience and she is super broken.

@@Dylangillian ayaka has not taken over ganyu’s spot. Ayaka has problems as big as ganyu has. Ayaka burst stagger: enemies are staggered continuously like the lizards and CC does not seem to be strong enough to pull them together Ayaka anti air, teleporting enemies and pretty much enemies with adhd: Ayaka’s main source of Dps is her burst, and with more and more enemies with adhd she is more likely to miss her burst Ayaka charged attacks and sprint suck ass (Speaks for itself right?) Ayaka melt is unreliable with ICD Ganyu doesnt have the first 2 problems but, Ganyu requires shielder in most cases Both in melt and morgana, a shielder can translate to one less damage dealer in the team and lower damage potential Glass cannon, she can get clapped up really easily with poor game sense as charged shots take a while. For example, mobs that function like hydro abyss herald will fuck ganyu up fast(but we all know shes a good counter, hence just the mechanics of the enemy)

As someone who have 2 acc and one was where i had only starter team and sec where i had ganyu at ar17,she is op for new players,she will carry your ass without any trouble to kill everything on map from 100m,u dont need open whole map to fight her boss,she have craftable weapon to use,so i would recommend her for new players

She has a lot of cases where she is better even for old players(fast bosses - a specially if they fly , hydro mimics, any overworld scenario in general , any Venti scenario etc) . It all comes down to if you like her playstyle . I actually prefer Ganyu over Hu Tao . I have no issues with charge shots but I hate Hu Tao's charge attacks .

She is super f2p friendly and what makes her great is that you can play melt ganyu which hits 100k+ charge shots with f2p weapons

Ganyu's performance in both overworld and abyss have been purposefully worsen by hoyoverse through some tiny details they put in here and there, but for new players who's still at the world exploring phase, she's a better pull than ayaka imo. Considering the commission at liyue and mondstadt are still unchanged, and she's a liyue character, which makes her materials much more obtainable.

I'd go with Yelan over Ganyu, though. She's better for the over world, and fits into a lot of teams. Obviously not cryo, but that only matters if a 5 five star cryo DPS is what you're looking for, rather than a top tier overworld and Abyss/domain character.

@@Axterix13 Different purpose units here. Yelan is a subDPS while Ganyu is a carry . Does Yelan has more uses ? Yes . Is she a must pull if you have c6 Xingqiu though? (That said I have both and they are very strong )

@@Axterix13 for a player that just starting out with standard characters, ganyu kit might be good since she can fulfill dps roll and support at the same time. therefore i think ganyu is a great investment. as for yelan she is very good if you already had a good dps at the start. otherwise we can always use xiangling. as for overworld i do agree yelan has speed buff with her skill. personally i would pick yelan since every player has free xiangling from abyss floor 3. the only problem for yelan is her boss ascension material is available in the chasm. that need to progress in the quest (cmiiw). while ganyu is considered obtainable from cryo flower in mondstat.

I remember when I installed genshin for the first time and after day two I saw some wishes, pressed it and got the golden one and than ganyu appeared. My 1 st ever 5* (my queen carry me from 1.2 until today) in any case, I actually used her after a long time in abyiss and with melt team with zhongli, Bennett, xianling and she crush last chamber.soooo yeah she is still strong and iam f2p and I got Amos on standard.......she is fine but yeah maybe old dated unit now.....

She's definitely lost a lot of her value as a dps sub dps or whatever you wanna call her but she is still up there in the meta
