If tithing is seen as a mandate it can't be seen as a gift. Today's version of tithing has no biblical precedent. Giving is a different topic and yes we should do so as we're able, money or otherwise, to a church organization or otherwise. But we're free to give, not bound to pay.

@REACHRIGHT it doesn't mention any set amount but does that justify a 10 percent income tithe that us not in scripture just because preachers fi d it easier to force give than teach giving

@@michaelmerck7576 It doesn't mention a set amount in the New Testament but I can see how 10% can be a starting point. Abraham gave 10% before the law and gave it voluntarily and not forcefully. Then we see 10% established in the law. So that doesn't tell you that 10% is an important number with regards to giving? Again, NT giving is voluntary giving but I do believe 10% is a starting point. It is not to be given forcefully but with a cheerful heart.

@@asaelreyes1775 why not start at 23 1/3% that we find in scripture for the Levitical tithe, for the festival tithe and for the poor tithe? And why are the tithing preachers continuously trying to push us back under the Mosaic Law when Jesus died to set us free from the law, sin and death? Please do yourself to a favor to and read up about George Müller. He lived in the 1800s. He built a number of orphanages with asking one cent. It is estimated to that 180 000 000 was used without him begging, manipulating and threatening his congregation using extortion and fear to get them to pay the "tithe". The difference is that George was called of God, therefore he put all his trust in God and not people to supply all funds to build the orphanages. If your are genuinely called of God, trust God to supply and don't burden your congration for your lack of faith.

How is giving money an act of worship. Nowhere in scripture is giving money a part of worshipping God .this is insulting to God that you think you can buy the blessing of God

This is just not true. You can make a case that it isn't a New Testament principle, but to say it isn't mentioned in the whole of the bible is just not the case.

It is actually GIVING UNDER HOLY SPIRIT LEADING, even if we don't like. (spirit bears witness with our spirit) Recently i gave away my motorcycle for FREE just because god told me to give which i didn't like at all So if the "free will offering" comes out of the SPIRIT, then it is fine, but if the "free will offering" comes out of CONVENIENCE then we may loose gods blessing(spiritual/material), but it might not be considered as a sin.
