Who are the most iconic villains in film and literature? When we compare them to the God of the bible, how do they stack up? Can the apologists really appeal to our limited human perspective to excuse the God character's harshness?

The stories in the Bible just tell the whole truth the good and bad of humanity..not sugar coating it at all. Even the men that were supposed to be good fell often and messed up and didnt do what God told them to do. Thats how you know the Bible is true because God tells the whole truth. God never condones evil but judges it. So if you look at the Bible correctly you would see it records the failures of men and the corruption of the world. The just anger and wrath God has against evil which by the way we should all have. And it shows the mercy God shows toward that person that does the same evil He hates. Lets all be real about our evaluations of the Bible and God and stop just saying things without truly diving into the truth behind it.

@Sue Sue you obviously have not actually read it in its entirety. Children become adults so you teach them morals and the truth young so they will be descent men and woman. Its wrong to keep the truth from someone. Children do need guidance of course when it comes to the Bible but thats the adults job. The Bible tells the truth of humanity and shows the truth of God and also shows His tremendous love for us and His hatred for the sin that destroys us. Nobody can look at Jesus who is everything that God is in the flesh and say Jesus is scary and mean He is wonderful and awesome and powerful and loving and sweet. I would go back and read starting in the book of John in the new testament.
@masterchief9854
@masterchief9854 4 жыл бұрын
@Sue Sue anyone can be spiritual. All throughout history most purple groups had spirituality but that doesn't mean your right with God. Religions dont agree so that means they can't all be right because truth is just that TRUE. so there is no falsehood. So just believing in a higher power is not enough. You must have faith in who that higher Power is and to do that you must know Him. So if of group says this shot Him and its opposed to another group then either one is wrong or both are wrong but they both cant be right. So it's important you truly find out what the truth is. If Jesus says that His sacrifice in our place is the only way to be forgiven then we have a major problem if that is true because it's the only religion that states that. We have to address who Jesus Christ is and who He claimed to be because of He is who He claimed to be then we need to listen to Him. And bring a preachers daughter doesn't automatically tie you into the family of God or by proxy bestow on you understanding of God's Word. If He is a good preacher who obeys the words of the Bible then you have a leg up for sure but it still takes your faith and a personal walk with God to truly understand the Bible. The Bible just tells it as it was and is and is going to be. Whether that's scary or not at times so be it. Life is scary dirtiness that doesn't stop is from living it so it shouldn't stop us from learning the truth and adjusting or lives for it.

This spoke to me. I remember as a child, I found a video (I think) that said we needed to pray for those suffering in hell. To think of all the people suffering for eternity as regular people who lived normal lives, and were punished for eternity for seemingly insignificant sins, made me incredibly sad. I don't believe that hell is real anymore, and consider myself more agnostic theist, but the idea that a loving God would send the majority of his creation to suffer forever is terrifying to me.

If God is actually one, alone, without partners as is claimed by the Jews, Samaritans and Muslims, and if Jesus was correct in saying that once he rose into heaven they would see him no more, then the devil appearing as "Christ" to Paul on the road to Damascus and teaching Paul the "Gospel of the uncircumcised" as Jesus had taught the other disciples the "Gospel of the circumsized", was one of the most diabolical plots ever because now billions of Christians all believe they are worshiping the one, true God and fighting against Satan when in actuality Satan authored the trinity doctrine and shifted the worship of God to the worship of the human being named, Jesus. That was probably the greatest trick the devil pulled.

The only people who worship the Devil are Christians because nobody else believes in the Devil; FACT! And when the Buybull says; If God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, then by definition, God would have to be the Devil and Judas. The snake, every demon, Be6elzebub Behemoth, Belphegor, Asmodeus, THE EVIL ONE, etc., and the Buybull agrees and says, "Yes, The God of Abraham, El Elohim, Jehovah, YAHWEH literally IS THE EVIL ONE!!!" Here is the Holy Buybull Scripture proof; read it yourself! I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. Isaiah 45:7 Shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it? Amos 3:6 And he is proud of the evil that he creates. Behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam and will cut off from Jeroboam him that pisseth against the wall. 1 Kings 14:10 Behold, this evil is of the LORD. 2 Kings 6:33 Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle. 2 Kings 21:12 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the curses that are written in the book. 2 Chronicles 34:24 All the evil that the LORD had brought upon him Job 42:11 The Lord ... will bring evil. Isaiah 31:1-2 I will bring evil from the north and great destruction. Jeremiah 4:6 I will bring evil upon these people, even the fruit of their thoughts. Jeremiah 6:19 I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them. Jeremiah 11:11 Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you. Jeremiah 18:11 I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle. Jeremiah 19:3 I will bring evil upon them. Jeremiah 23:12 For thus saith the LORD ... I have brought all this great evil upon this people. Jeremiah 32:42 Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them. Jeremiah 36:3 None of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them. Jeremiah 42:17 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem. Jeremiah 44:2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil. Jeremiah 44:11 I will watch over them for evil and not for good. Jeremiah 44:27 I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 45:5 I will send the sword after them till I have consumed them. Jeremiah 49:37 Out of the mouth of the Highest proceedeth not good and evil? Lamentations 3:38 I will set my eyes upon them for evil and not for good. Amos 9:4 The inhabitant of Maroth waited carefully for good: but evil came down from the LORD. Micah 1:12 Behold, against this family do I devise an evil. Micah 2:3 Things the Bible says that God has done: The LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon... And there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. Exodus 12:29-30 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, and much people of Israel died. Numbers 21:6 Thus saith the LORD of hosts ... Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass. 1 Samuel 15:2-3 Behold, O LORD, and consider to whom thou hast done this. Shall the women eat their fruit, and children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord? The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed, and not pitied. Lam.2:20-21 Things the Bible says God plans to do in the future: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. Lev.26:16 And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters. Deuteronomy 28:53 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine. Isaiah 49:26 Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them. Ezekiel 8:18 Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame. And I will cast abominable filth upon thee and make thee vile. Nah.3:5-6 Behold, I will corrupt your seed and spread dung upon your faces. Malachi 2:3 As an example to parents everywhere and to save the world (from Himself); God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten, perfect, and innocent Son, Jesus to be tortured and killed as a ritual blood sacrifice; to appease Himself, so that He could forgive us for the sin, He originally condemned us to in the 1st place. John 3: 16 And if you accept this ritual blood sacrifice, you will receive a "Get out of hell free card" so that you can sin all you want! All Abrahamic faiths (Christians, Muslims, and Jews" all worship the same God of Abraham. It is hard to be a good person when you belong to a death cult of 1st born ritual blood sacrifice because all Abrahamic faiths worship THE EVIL ONE!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGPcg3mvosl9q8U

Watch the movie Eternals! I think the analogy of God being a deceiver could be found in this movie! If Man was created in the image of God it’s very possible the motivation of creation may be the same! When humans create we do so in order to benefit from our creations and not to serve the benefit of what we created! We can see this in AI technology or the farm animals we breed only to be slaughtered for our own consumption! It’s very possible God has his own selfish agenda and motivation from our existence! Many religious folks are fooled that God serves us and looks over our well-being but it’s probably the reverse where our existence is an expense to ourselves because we suffer to meet God’s needs first!

As a child I was horrified by the Bible from the word go. I remember feeling angry and upset that Eve wasn't created for herself but for Adam, to be his "helpmeet." She wasn't allowed to just exist, she was "given to" someone. So females were automatically second, auxiliary (I didn't think of that word at the time, obviously); add-ons; things made to help, not made to just exist like Adam was. We girls were less than, so we had to always do more - "help" our "betters" - in order to justify that we were alive. We didn't get to choose how and when to help, we simply had to, or we were worthless. That was my take-home. Next God tempted A&E with that tree and then allowed these innocent (they didn't know good v. evil yet) people be tempted by the serpent, whom I thought must have also seemed like a God. They wanted to be like God, because they loved him, just like kids want to be like their parents. The cruelty of God's punishment after setting them up to fail made me want to scream. I could even see some sort of punishment as being appropriate, I mean I was a kid, when we disobeyed we were punished no matter what our reasons for disobeying. But the extent of the punishment seemed so over the top, as if God literally hated A&E...I felt a true hatred from the God figure reading the words. It cut me to the very heart. I had these thoughts at probably 6 or 7. And all I heard was how evil and rotten I was for having them. So I grew up thinking I was horrible. Yet I couldn't help but have them. I wasn't being "rebellious," I was legitimately scandalized by the cruelty I was reading. But no, that meant I was inherently bad, and probably going to hell. So as a first grader I would lie there at night terrified that if I died in the night I would be sent to eternal torture, for having thoughts and having compassion for two people. Religion f*cks with people.
@batman5796

people believe what they want to believe. religion plays the role of meaning of life for some people, otherwise they'd be left with a void of nihilism. so they follow religion blindly, and they agree with the stuff that god did because they are too scared to question their beliefs, either for not wanting to conclude that god is not real, or because they do not want to go to hell for questioning god. the twisted narrative of god that everyone seems to worship is a villain, and it stands out so clearly to anyone, but only those that allow doubt to enter their mind will walk away, and those who are scared will justify whatever messed up stuff god did. he punished the entirety of the female species to suffer when giving birth because the first fell into temptation without even having a developed concept of good and evil. it is so clear that is cruel and unjust, and people are not as stupid as to not see that, so they justify it and keep believing because they are too scared to do otherwise

I as well was in damn near the same position for years. My family, my wife's family and most of my friends are firm believers. Many parts of your story parallel mine except for one main difference. When I finally saw the light and decided to speak out and challenging family members and friends it started a slow and very hurtful dismantling of my life. My wife of 14 years is now gone and my relationship with my daughter is horribly strained. I just wanted to share my experience and tell you sometimes silence is strength. Looking back, I believe speaking out and challenging my loved ones is the most selfish thing I've done. I don't know how I expected things to go after challenging their beliefs but if I would have thought critically about it before opening my mouth I would have known no good could come from it. I'm telling you this as a cautionary tale. Even though knowing this religion is nothing but fairy tales, I wish I would have remained silent for the good of my life and ultimately my family. In the end the decision is yours but don't feel like holding your tongue is being weak. Take care friend

"Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men... just want to watch the world burn." I find this quote to be really fitting to this video, much more so because of the villains you elected as the comparison. Hannibal Lecter is mad. He isn't pathologically mad or delusional, but the paths of his brain are wired differently, making him different from the rest of the world in a way that is dangerous to society. It is something that is beyond his control, as a human has no true control over his Awareness. But nonetheless, he embraces it. Joker, now, he is something different. His motives are unknown, as is his endgame. He seems to be exactly what he describes himself to be: an Agent of Chaos. But even so, there is something about him that defines him: the Batman. Everything that he does is somehow based around Batman. His every action is seemingly intended to harm Batman first, and then as many others possible as the collateral. In a way, Joker is like a compass on the Earth's magnetic pole: spinning wildly without any apparent logic, but still following that one single axis. Darth Vader is not as complex as Joker, but the scope at which he operates makes him much more serious. Joker was at his peak only dangerous to Gotham (I only watched the films, sorry), while Vader was a danger to the entire known life. His story was a tragedy, as he basically went from being a brightest angels to the darkest devil. The entire weight of the world broke on him before he could even properly grasp it, and for that, it killed Anakin Skywalker, and replaced him with Darth Vader. Anakin ended up being much as the unnamed soldier from Metallica's One. But instead of falling to utter despair and impotence, he had the Force in his side, and he survived the impossible, being reborn as the broken man that agreed to be leashed by evil because there wasn't anything else he could do. He had no other path, no goal. And in that moment of desperation, he turned to the only thing on the horizon, even if it was only darkness. But as he found himself more and more, his goal went from serving to avenging. But that didn't heal him: in the end, he was still darkness, still desiring death and domination. And in his everyday life, he was a brutal man who preferred to choke out the consent rather than to get it. I do not condone Vader, but I do understand him. Now Thanos: for all my dislike on Marvel, I must admit that Thanos is one superbly written villain. Many people argue on whether he was right or not, but it isn't really the case with him. Thanos is morally grey character, who does what he considers to be the lesser evil. He is not a deity, but he observes with the eyes of one. To him, as much as 50% of all existing life is inconsequential before the bigger picture, that is ultimate salvation of the life as the whole. As Filippa Eilhart would put it, sometimes you have to amputate the limb to save the body. And sometimes that can be the greater evil, as some may consider life without the limb in question to be no life at all. But in this case, the limbs can grow back, and by the divine perception that Thanos seemingly has, what he did was not only justifiable, but completely beneficial. Let's say that a human being has cancer, that, if left unchecked, will eventually kill them but has no other negative side effects. And let's say that by systematically culling set number of cells, that cancer can be made to serve the person, transcending the Hayflick limit, effectively making them biologically immortal with just the need for occasional renewal or reset. If that person wished not to die, that would be absolutely beneficial for them: they could do a 180, and turn their woe into their joy. They could theoretically determine the length of their life, and even vitality and youth at will. It is a dream come true, no matter how you look at it. And Thanos, while taking on his self-imposed mission on a divine level, was still a mortal. Still human, if you would. A regular man could think on the same plane as him. He could see and understand. Which is why there are people that root for or against Thanos, despite them not being indoctrinated into doing so. Because their belief isn't a matter of coercion or programming, but of true conviction. And then we have the God of Abraham: Yahweh, El Shaddai, Jesus, Allah, or by whatever name you elect to call him. His motivations are unknowable, because he is on the different plane from us. His consciousness works on the way we cannot comprehend, just as Windows 98 couldn't run a program constructed for Windows 10; or better yet, for Linux. His motivations are self-contradictory, because he could solve the problems which he himself has created in literally every way imaginable, yet seemingly elected the worse. What does he want with us that he cannot tell us himself? What are we to him? Children? Pets? Farm animals? NPC's? Players in the show? Entertainment? Whatever the case may be, his actions are in the long run causing us a lot of woe, that we couldn't ignore as the NPC's could, because we are very real. I cannot comprehend what he desires because my awareness doesn't span far enough. But for what it spans, I can comprehend this: he thinks of all this as a good sport. He isn't looking for anything logical. He cannot be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. He, it would appear, just wants to watch the world burn.

It was an absolute pleasure reading your treatise. Thank you for sharing! Thanos wanted to help. He wanted to reduce suffering, and ensure the survival of life in the universe. That was noble. He struggled over his role. He felt remorse. That was relatable, and generated my empathy. But Thanos was not interested in other opinions. He didn't investigate. He didn't ask more questions. For example, why not snap his fingers to modify all life in the universe so that every organism would desire a modest amount of offspring, thus not overtaxing the resources? Heck, we are on the verge of being able to achieve that ourselves with genetic engineering and CRISPR-Cas9. Or with that kind of power, why not expand the universe to accommodate our insatiable appetite for expansion? I don't know how powerful those magic jewels were supposed to be. Was this an option? Thanos failed by not investigating further. But the Avengers failed by not convincing Thanos to think further and by not presenting these options. I don't recall if any character suggested alternatives, or asked Thanos to wait a few years for the scientific research to become available. The Avengers were convinced of their position, but they didnt provide Thanos with an alternative. The film inadvertently provided a poignant lesson that if all parties don't work towards presenting alternative solutions, we succumb to confrontation.

Atheists believe the universe exploded from nothing. That makes no sense whatsoever. Granted Christians believe God came nothing, but at least that makes more sense than a bunch of carbon atoms forming stars, planets, galaxies, and so on all by themselves by random chance with no creator. The universe is much too complex, beautiful, massive, and just awe inspiring to be formed without a designer. There are one hundred billion galaxies each galaxy has five hundred billion stars. All this is so beautiful and enormous. It had to have been created by a powerful being and not blind chance. And that powerful being has to be the God of the Bible. The Bible makes the most sense of all religions doctrine.

I live in a old town in the U.K. where a bypass road was built a few years ago. It cut through some ancient fields to the northwest of the city. There were some ancient tunnels there believed to have been from as far back as Roman times. Full of brambles, weeds and not of much archeological interest. They were filled with concrete an the new road built over them. In the winter of that year there was a lot of rain. The town flooded like nothing in the recorded history of the town. Many businesses and homes were ruined. It took many weeks for the water to subside at great cost. Sometimes things are there for a good reason but it’s not always that obvious until it’s gone.

Here is the Aristotelian proof of God: Change occurs in reality. But, change is the actualization of a potential. So, the actualization of potential occurs in reality. No potential can be actualized unless there is something already actual that actualizes it. So, whatever goes from potential to actual has an actual cause. Now, the existence of a thing or substance that undergoes change at any particular moment or instant in time presupposes the actualization of that thing’s potential for existence (since it has the potential to exist or not exist or exist in many different ways). So, a thing at any moment in the here and now will have an actualizer of its potential for existence. But, if that actualizer also has potential for existence then it will also require a simultaneous actualizer of its potential for existence here and now and so on and so on. But, this causal regress is hierarchical in nature, so it cannot regress to infinity and so, must terminate in a first member. The first member of this series cannot have any potential for existence; else it would need an actualizer of its existence and thus, fail to be the first actualizer. So, this first actualizer would have to be a purely actual actualizer or an unactualized actualizer that actualizes the existence of other things in the here and now without having its own existence actualized because it is devoid of all potentiality. Therefore, the reality of change and the existence of things that undergo change presuppose the existence of a First Cause that is purely actual, devoid of all potentiality. If we continue to unpack what this would entail, we can see that the divine attributes would flow from the first actualizer (or first cause) being purely actual.

@@belaireguy4117 "which God?" The God of classical theism. If you agree that there is a purely actual cause of the existence of things in the here and now, we can further investigate to arrive at the traditional divine attributes definitive of the God of classical theism. 1. In order for there to be more than one purely actual actualizer, there would have to be some differentiating feature that one such actualizer has that the others lack. 2. But there could be such a differentiating feature only if a purely actual actualizer had some unactualized potential which, being purely actual, it does not have. 3. So, there can be no such differentiating feature, and thus no way for there to be more than one purely actual actualizer. 4. So, there is only one purely actual actualizer. 1. In order for this purely actual actualizer to be capable of change, it would have to have potentials capable of actualization. 2. But being purely actual, it lacks any such potentials. 3. So, it is immutable or incapable of change. 1. If this purely actual actualizer existed in time, then it would be capable of change, which it is not. 2. So, this purely actual actualizer is eternal, existing outside of time. 1. If the purely actual actualizer were material, then it would be changeable and exist in time, which it does not. 2. So, the purely actual actualizer is immaterial. 1. If the purely actual actualizer were corporeal, then it would be material, which it is not. 2. So, the purely actual actualizer is incorporeal. 1. If the purely actual actualizer were imperfect in any way, it would have some unactualized potential, which, being purely actual, it does not have. 2. So, the purely actual actualizer is perfect. 1. For something to be less than fully good is for it to have a privation- that is, to fail to actualize some (potential) feature proper to it. 2. A purely actual actualizer, being purely actual, can have no such privation. 3. So, the purely actual actualizer is fully good. 1. To have power entails being able to actualize potentials. 2. Any potential that is actualized is either actualized by the purely actual actualizer or by a series of actualizers which terminates in the purely actual actualizer. 3. So, all power derives from the purely actual actualizer. 4. But to be that from which all power derives is to be omnipotent. 5. So, the purely actual actualizer is omnipotent. 1. Whatever is in an effect is in its cause in some way, whether formally, virtually, or eminently (the principle of proportionate causality). 2. The purely actual actualizer is the cause of all things (that exist or could exist). 3. So, the forms or patterns manifest in all the things it causes must in some way be in the purely actual actualizer. 4. These forms or patterns can exist (in the purely actual actualizer) either in the (1) concrete way in which they exist in individual particular things, or (2) as Platonic Forms in which they exist in an abstract way outside of material reality and outside of a mind, or (3) in the abstract and universal way in which they exist in the thoughts of an intellect. 5. The forms or patterns cannot exist in the purely actual actualizer in the concrete way in which they exist in individual particular things and they cannot exist as Platonic Forms in which they exist in an abstract way outside of material reality and outside of a mind. 6. So, the forms or patterns must exist in the purely actual actualizer in the abstract and universal way in which they exist in the thoughts of an intellect. 7. So, the purely actual actualizer has intellect or intelligence. 1. Since it is the forms or patterns of all things that are in the thoughts of this intellect, there is nothing that is outside the range of those thoughts. 2. If there were something outside the range of the purely actual actualizer’s thoughts, then it would have some unrealized or unactualized potential. 3. But being purely actual, it can have no such potential. 4. So, there cannot be something outside the range of the purely actual actualizer’s thoughts. 5. For there to be nothing outside the range of something’s thoughts is for that thing to be omniscient. 6. So, the purely actual actualizer is omniscient. So, there exists a purely actual cause of the existence of things, which is one, immutable, eternal, immaterial, incorporeal, perfect, fully good, omnipotent, intelligent, and omniscient. But for there to be such a cause of things is just what it is for God to exist. Therefore, God exists.

And at the same time, we all are the devil. The same goes for anything with life in it. All religions seem to be searching for and worshipping the same thing. The fact that anyone has ever gone to war over this is absurd. It’s okay to agree to disagree, just don’t kill each other over it.
