I think the Bible is clear about certain issues. Certainly, being in control or governing this planet and the cosmos is his domain. Can God still be sovereign if his perfect will isn’t being done? I answer yes. Just because sin reigns throughout this word and Satan is the god of this world doesn’t mean that God can’t or won’t stop tragedies. The reason why all things work for good in a Christians life is precisely because he is in control. If he wasn’t, this verse would not be comforting. Satan is the cause of evil, yet God can take that evil and cause good to come. Remove Joseph and how his brothers tried to kill him! He says that you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good. I still love you both!

A better way to say how God is sovereign; he is sovereign according to the way he says in his word. An example would be he controls how the universe operates that's under his sovereign control but he does not control mankind and their action because he's giving mankind their free will. He will also perform his word according to the way that he spoke it.

To go even deeper with that theory.... How can we have full free will if God is sovereign and all knowing and in control in creating us. He made us with propensities to make the decisions we make in life and the life choices we make. The He judges us for not making the correct choices or those choices bring down evil on us? I'm sorry, but not everyone will be healed, no matter how strong their faith is. Sure, we should pray with the confidence that God is able to heal the sick person if it is His will, but I believe there are many people with great faith who did not get healed.

I believe that too. I have been healed by the Lord on many occasions and I thank and praise Him but in another area I have not been healed. I tell God I only have faith as big as a mustard seed but I hope for healing in a certain situation. I try to hold on (actually in a few things) but I do see answered prayer in other things. I enjoyed the testimony from Bill and Annette though and will take lots to heart. I hear what they say though that the Lord does want people healed. I hear what you say too that not everyone gets healed. It's a bit tricky.

God HAS to be in control of everything or he is not God. He may let the devil perform evil acts but God still controls those acts. See Job, when God sets limits on what the devil can do to Job.

That was so good! Thank you both for your well thought out explanations about this. But what about "Job" from the bible? Wasn't that God's will... sort of? I know satan was at the core of that... but God allowed Job to go through it, to prove a point to satan. Sometimes, that's why I think I say in prayer things like, "If it be in your will Lord...". Mainly, cause I don't know if He's putting me (or someone else) through a Job type of experience or not... to see if we will still trust in Him through the tougher obstacles of life.

Very true. Jonah is an excellent example too. God overrules over every event. He’s not “out of control” but He’s not controlling all movements and events. He doesn’t say, “today, I’m going to kill a little boy with lighting” or something like that. But He allows it to happen, because He’s God.

I understand what you are both saying, but to add to it: If God were not Sovereign over the world, he would not be God! The “god of this world” is speaking of the minds of the people living in opposition to God- they have rejected God and chosen the Evil One. If the world did not truly belong to God, then he would not have reconciled it to himself by laying down his life. God IS ruling over all of creation. In his divine mercy he privileged mankind to govern Eden(tend and watch over it). Mankind sinned against God and God sent them out and cursed the ground Gen.3:17-19. Man was still to “struggle to scratch a living” (NLT) from the ground and cultivate it. Just because evil happens does not mean God makes it happen. God is sovereign, so he knows it will happen. He allows the process of life to take place. He allows the wind to blow, the oceans to make waves, and that all came with the curse against the sin of mankind. Satan does not control. He manipulates the things of God’s creation to fool mankind. He is the Deceiver. That’s his ability in scripture (father of lies, disguises himself as an angel of light, Deceiver of the world in Rev 12). He is not a god of the world, only received by worldly people because they reject the true God of the world, the Almighty God, Father of creation, who revealed himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Ghost in his word.

Depends how old they are haha. I don't know. I'm a woman. I looked great and young until 65 (was told by young ones I looked so young) but through untold stress and major operations I've aged lots the last 6 years but still don't have wrinkles but have bad knees (my fault) and thinner hair.
