In this video, Eric discusses the varying importance of LeetCode preparation in tech industry interviews. While big tech giants like Google and Amazon often focus on LeetCode-style questions, Eric reveals that sectors like finance, accounting, and healthcare typically do not.
The advice? Research your target companies thoroughly! Your time might be better spent enhancing portfolios and interview skills rather than exclusively grinding LeetCode problems. This video offers insights for anyone preparing for technical interviews.

For me LeetCode is just a mechanism to keep me consistently coding daily. And to improve my analysis skills. I solve a problem a day for almost 3 months now.👍

Opinion: I've been doing leetcode for 2 years, it is not just helped me get my first software engineering job. It sharpened my problem skills and kept me consistent everyday. I believe that any program in the world even if its sum of two integers it is a combination of "algorithm" which is how we solved that problem and "data structures" which is the way we store data in memory. Both these data structures and algos need to be efficient. Thanks for the video !

like share and subscribe! definitely for business companies these complex tasks from leetcode are not needed. that is why from people who always work for general business companies and never took part in RnD though that technical education in University is not needed)))

Excellent video as always. The production quality keeps getting better. Out of curiosity, if it is healthcare/insurance,accounting industry what types of problems do they ask you to solve if it’s not leetcode? Hypothetically, like would they give you sample code and ask you to perform dependency injection or reverse a string ?

It varies greatly by employer. It can range from small toy exercises like FizzBuzz or Reversing a String to whiteboard-style interviews where they want to see how you approach a problem (usually something involving data retrieval/manipulation) or pair programming exercises where they have you work on a small project. There's no real good guides on how to interview tech workers, so interviews are all over the place.

So basically, FAANG really liked this style because they want hardcore computer scientists as their programmers who have the ability to use algorithms to make novel solutions/products to help them innovate and that's their way of gauging if you meet that requirement. Whereas healthcare, accounting and insurance companies just want to make sure you are good enough to make tried and true systems to keep their records intact and secure which doesn't need innovation. Just that you know how to use the right tools for the job, right?

Yeah they want high IQ math/comp sci nerds. It’s a filtering mechanism.

Yeah, it's kind of the difference between an electrician and an electrical engineer. They both know a lot of the same things, but their job focuses are very different.

As a beginner I learned core java and oops then DSA(Theory) after that I grind on leetcode . Leetcode makes me fluent in java and make my mind more analytical. Now learning springboot, data base and git and other developer tools and simultaneously solving 2/3 (1 easy, 1 medium + sometimes 1 hard also) leetcode problem regularly . Then i will build my portfolio after that i will apply for job. To become a self taught programmer that is my approach. If my approach is wrong then please suggest me something better. I am from non cs background .Sorry for my bad English 😑😑
