I don't think Hannibal is in love with Will. I didn't watch the third season(because it sucked) but from the first two seasons I get the impression that Will is Hannibal's only true friend, someone who understands him. The idea that what Hannibal saw in Will was ultimately sexual attraction is just stupid, in my opinion.

@@tank422 What Hannibal and Will feel for each other is indeed a form of love. That's not just wishful thinking in the fanbase, it's the ultimate drive that binds the characters together over time and very much intended by the writer of the show. I did watch s3 and the love-hate relationship between Hannibal and Will contignued to the end, although there was no hate on Hannibal's side, only obsession and consequently disappointment (a broken heart) when being rejected, while Will was split up between love and hate for Hannibal (hating Hannibal = hating the dark side in himself). That love has nothing to do with sex. Love isn't sex and sex isn't love. The 2 simply come together at times. Siblings love each other, there is the love for your mother and father, friends of whatever gender love each other and sometimes that love can be very deep. Such love CAN include a sexual desire, very often it doesn't, though. I fully agree, there isn't any sexual attraction between those 2 characters, it's ridiculous to make them a gay couple (how very boring). I would have been terribly disappointed if they actually would have kissed in the final, very intimate scene. Fuller isn't silly, thankfully, and didn't do that. The final was horridly beautiful.

@@Seleuce Alright. But even then they turned Hannibal into a God which was not necessary. Will should've caught him by using his knowledge about Lecter, I'm sure that's how it is in the books, at least that's what I understand from Manhunter and Silence of the lambs. You make someone into a God then there's no longer any scope for anything interesting to develop. And Hannibal in jail would've been a nice way to start season 3, instead they made the fans feel the repetitiveness. Also I just didn't like who they casted for Red Dragon. Like the guy in Manhunter was scary in very different way from Hannibal but here this guy was basically a hunk, I thought that was very poorly done and rushed. I maybe season 3 was not that bad but the expectations for the series is very high because it is such a masterpiece. And I got the impression from season 1&2 that Bedelia just wanted to get rid of Hannibal at all cost and just get as far away from him as possible. But in season 3 she's like meh this is not so bad and ready to be involved even more, which I thought was unrealistic. She's a psychiatrist herself she's going to go away from him and everyone that reminds her of him ASAP! It's like everyone just accepted their fate and are ready to get fucked up. If that's the case what's the point of a horror tv show.

Recently I began watching it again on Amazon Prime, and nothing is different-- I still find Gillian's voice and way of speaking to be intoxicating and hypnotic and lovely. A scene like this, with the amazingly languid pace, makes me inebriated. Also, I don't think this is the first time Will realized the truth; it may just be the first time he put it in words to someone. He may have begun to suspect something back when he said "Did you just smell me?" to Hannibal.

+Martin Marmalade The reason shes crying/near tears is when will compares her to Bluebeard's wife, in the story of Bluebeard and his wives, only his most recent wife lives all of the ones before died/murdered by him, so in this situation bedelia is not the last "wife" will is, and she knows/believes she probably wont survive Hannibal and will be eaten, she just would have preferred to survive. Will is the final "wife" here he is basically Hannibal's end-game/who wants to be with most, he is Hannibal's best possible choice, because will understands him, see's him for who he is and accepts him for it.

Her character, Bedelia was supposed to be an old lady and she was going to be played by Angela Lansbury. so maybe that's why Gillian Anderson is talking slowly. I don't know, just a thought I had. This show doesn't have Clarice, and even if she does appear, she'd be given another role, maybe that of Abigail. In the show, Will is the only person who can be and is Hannibal's love interest.

This scene actually destroys the canon . In "Silence of the Lambs", Chilton comments to Clarice, "are you ever his taste, so to speak". Crawford has chosen Starling because she is the exact type of woman who would appeal to Lecter. With Fuller making Lecter pansexual, the whole reason for sending Starling to Lecter in the first place is removed.

Bryan Fuller tired but failled to get rights to include Clarice in the show therefore her storyline was never going to be present within the story. Will took on a lot of her character and I actually personally liked it better thay way. I believe Will to be better suited for Hannibal as he is the only one who can truly understand him.
