Since you mentioned "Outshined" I would strongly suggest two other tunes from that same amazing album(Bad Motorfinger). As a Christian I was a little scared of "Jesus Christ Pose" but after I studied the lyrics I realized that it was a strong statement against hypocrisy. Additionally, "Slaves and Bulldozers" is the one song that stretches CC's voice to the very limit!

Chris described what this song meant to him in an interview back in 2011: "That was a song that really came from the guitar itself. It was mostly like the guitar was dictating what the lyrics should be and creating a mental image. The mental image was this sort of destitute guy. I guess he'd lost his cool if you want to put it that way. He's sort of coming to grips with what had happened and not necessarily feeling particularly emotional about it either way. He's trying to figure out how he would stand up and put one foot in front of the other-or not-and the song never really resolves any of that. It's just that moment of somebody sitting in the dirt. I had more moments like that after that song was written than I ever had before it was, so it means a lot more to me now than it did then."

I heard Chris say in an interview once that he wanted to write a song like Neil Young's "Down by the River" after finding an old cassette tape. He was blown away by that song and was respectfully pissed he didn't write it, ha!

Chris Cornell was one of a kind. That said, it's sad that when listening to those songs one only focuses on the voice (and lyrics). This song, for instance, has just an insane bass. It's completely unusual and incredibly innovative. But no one pays attention because people always focus on the singer. The comments here prove that. True, Cornell is killing this one but there is so much more to it. And it's usually the case in so many instances. Drums and bass are often overlooked, even when they are just out of this world. Now, play that song back one more time and focus on that insane bass and see how you didn't expect it to be so vital for that song to be so good and groovy ;-)

Fortunate to have seen Chris perform live during his acoustic performance tour during 2013 & 2015. Was recently his birthday on July 20th.
