NF has a thing called “the journey”. It gets recommended to everyone who first finds NF. If you’re up for it, it’s the best way to learn about all the references and imagery of his videos.

If anyone wants to understand his shopping cart and balloon references: Within the video for “The Search” NF gestures to his black balloons while stating: “Grabbin’ my keepsakes, leavin’ my burdens/Well, I brought a few with me, I’m not perfect,” indicating that the balloons are symbolic of the problems that continue to plague him in spite of his growth. The black balloons are his burdens. For the shopping cart part- he had the cage in background as an egg in search song which he rapped in for video outcast song from perception album. the cage represents his mind-(he also tours with the cage) NF brings the cart everywhere he goes, perhaps using the vehicle as a smaller, more portable version of the cage he once kept himself in. Considering the similar structure of the cart, it seems possible that the artist uses the cart when his feelings of entrapment return. In the closing moments of the video for “The Search,” NF climbs into the cart, folding up into the fetal position. While NF left the Perception outcast song cage behind, reaching a new pinnacle of success in the process, he continues to face feelings of fear, doubt, and pain just as any of us.

If you like NF, Tom, and Em, there's a few others you'd like: Hopsin, Token, Logic, Lupe Fiasco, and most of Joyner Lucas (he's an amazing lyricist but every once in a while throws out a "radio" style rap song. So if you stumble on one of those still give him a chance). Hopsin actually has a song with NF called Lost. You should check that out.

You're definitely on the right track. This song, almost all of his song's really, are about himself. Nate is NF's real name so when he says "hey nate" at the beginning you know the song is about him. A lot of his mental health issues are best explained in his earlier songs, so listen to those first, but here's a brief overview of what's covered in this song: The first verse about seeing a therapist and "moving out" of his mental "house" is about suicidal thoughts. I mean, he literally says, "get the noose out." He has had to go to therapy because he has mental health issues, many of which have been brought on/exacerbated by being famous and successful, weird enough as that may sound. If you listen to The Search the album all the way through he talks about it multiple times (the interlude on the album is just 50 seconds of him talking about his depression, definitely check that out). Other people have already mentioned the shopping cart and the balloons; to reiterate, the balloons are his representation of his own burdens and self-doubts. He also mentions his OCD, which he talks more about on the song, Leave Me Alone (one of my favorites of his btw). Looking forward to more NF reactions; Time, Leave Me Alone, Nate, Let You Down are some of my favs to get you started :)

Nate is an AWESOME rapper. This was the first song on his previous album called The Search. Please check out more of his songs! This one was filmed in Iceland. #NF Nate was dealing with anxiety and depression. What he didn't know and found out right after his album Perception is that he also has OCD. The puzzle pieces came together. I've noticed a new playfulness since he's gotten help. 😊

Don't worry about the journey. It's not necessary. It's great if you do it but you can enjoy his music no matter what order you go in. If you're looking to go on the NF Journey, the full one can be quite lengthy since it spans 5 albums. If you want a very abbreviated journey, I'd recommend: Intro I (Mansion album) Mansion Real How Could You Leave Us Intro III Outro Outcast Remember This Let You Down No Name **The whole Search Album is worth going through The Search (already done) Leave Me Alone Change Nate When I Grow Up Returns WHY Options Only **The whole Clouds The MIxtape is worth going through Paid My Dues Lost Clouds (already done) Story That's A Joke Just Like You Trust Layers The Cinematic Version of the Journey (His videos) Intro I Mansion Wake Up Notepad Intro II Therapy Session Real How Could You Leave Us I Just Wanna Know Green Lights Outro Intro III Remember This Let You Down No Name The Search Leave Me Alone WHY Paid My Dues Lost Clouds Story His catalogue is filled with songs worth reacting to. I left out a bunch of worthy songs, but I'm sure other fans will have their versions or favs that were left out. I do as well, but the Journey can get quite lengthy.

Nf's entire discography is amazing. He is super humble and doesn't really talk about being the best, but he does have a couple tracks for flexing. NF’s albums & songs sell his story, and build on each other. I think you would probably enjoy the NF journey. I haven’t counted them, but I think he has like 20-30 music videos. Before this album (THE SEARCH) came out he released a single (No Name). You should check it out. Leave Me Alone follows up (cinematically) to The Search, so I’d suggest that after No Name. Mention the NF Journey in one of the next videos and you’ll get comments with full playlists for NF. He’s got 4 1/2 albums out, and over the years he’s really demonstrated his versatility as a rapper, singer, actor, performer, artist, all of it. He’s the whole package, man. Most of his music (~90%) is kinda dark and/or heavy since music is his outlet for dealing with his personal struggles in life, so just be aware of that going into it.
@NIKKI-19793 жыл бұрын
Subbed! Please take the NF journey as we call it because he intertwines his music like marvel movies. Start with clouds if you want to just get more right now then go back. All four albums is like a connected series. For instance in his when i grow up song, paid my dues, leave me alone, and why song, the black smile is the fake smile that he mentions in therapy session song. He hides eggs in his videos. In when i grow up song there was two hidden eggs in that song. A black balloon by the trash cans and in burger joint he grabbed at receipt that had the date and time of when his song time was being released. In the search song he had cage in background he rapped in from his outcast song. Here is the song order: Mansion Album: Intro All I have Mansion Wake Up Paralyzed Notepad Therapy Session Album: Intro 2 Therapy Session I just wanna know How could you leave us-have tissues nearby. Grown men reactors have shed tears on this one Real song- (he pays homage to lil wayne in this song feed me rappers or feed me beats) Grindin Oh Lord- this song gets referred to in returns two albums later. Great song Statement (he pays homage to eminem and drake in this song) Warm Up -single (hype song) Epiphany- collab with futuristic. Video. Pays homage to meek mill. Green lights (pay attention to what he has written on the notepad at the end) Perception Album: Outro Intro 3 Outcast Know- pays homage to eminem and 21 pilots Destiny One hundred Let you down If you want love Remember this- 💎 Gems all over this track Single: No Name. This gets connected in leave me alone song an album later. Single: Why- he pays big homage to Big Sean as he uses his flow from bounce back in this and mentions Big Seans name and his album I decided. (This isnt nates flow he says) Also he has a ton of eggs like Dont mess with real music written on walls. Pay attention to all the writing. Additionally, Big Sean paid homage back in harder than my demons song he had the black balloons in it among other things Search Album: Whole album should be listened to but you can choose which you would like to do: The search (video) When I grow up (video) Leave me alone (video) Change My stress Nate Time (video) Returns- (hype song) one of his best for flow switches and word play Only Let me go Interlude then I hate myself song I miss the days No excuses (hype song) Like this Options (hype song) Thinking Trauma singing only song. Amazing song His paid my dues song is one of the last songs you should listen to. It was to the awful article rolling stones put out because the writer was a big chance the rapper fan and was pissed NF took number one spot. Over 400 people bashed that writer in the comments lol Chasing -demo he did with a fan. This is the last one to listen to. Also there is many good songs not on this list like Dreams, you’re special ect if you like him then take the time and go back through and listen through them all at some point. His lost in the moment song was just used for the promo for the new show called the equalizer starring Queen Latifah.

One thing that I didn't see mentioned is that Nate has stated that he is a Christian that raps and not a Christian Rapper. NF can git real heavy by being real. So if you need a break Dan Bull does raps based on video games and things. His "Primal War" is an amazing rap that you don't realize just how much until you reach the middle. For some international rappers I suggest Miyagi and Andy Panda, Ez Mil and Hbom singing "Cultura" live on the Wish Bus or Dax "Rap God Remix".

To understand NF you need to go back to some of his earlier music... Songs like... Mansion / Intro / Intro 2 / Intro 3 / Outro / Real / How Could You Leave Us / Therapy Session / Outcast / Warm Up / No Name / Statement / Let You Down Then move on to some of his newer stuff... ie... every song on "The Search" and "Clouds, the Mix Tape" albums. You are going to want to listen to all of it honestly. But if you want a jump start these tracks are essential. Also ... this video was filmed in Iceland. :-)

Love your insight! Very good. Not knowing Nf that well or his background or the black balloons. Which are a symbol of his burdens he carries. Hearing NF's Oh Lord on a local station a few years ago is what got me started back into rap. After Oh Lord I watched the video for Intro 1, and was hooked at that point. Oh Lord only has a lyric video but it's a great one to check out. And the video for Intro 1 I think you'll enjoy an awful lot. I suggest you start with the Mansion album and do all those songs with official videos. A lot of his songs form a cohesive story over time, and watching them out of order you'll miss out on important context now and then. This was filmed in Iceland.

Start from the beginning and do the journey He tells his life story through his albums if you start at the beginning you will get a complete view of him. I would recommend you do "intro" and "all I have" to start A few things to know is he Doesn't care to be called a Christian rapper but A rapper that is Christian, The black balloons that you will see in his videos are his burdens that he carries around with him, You will also see a black smiley face Painted on his face that is because people tell him he should smile more and he is unable to fake it for the camera So he painted it on for them, Anyway I hope you keep it up because I really enjoyed your reaction and I think If you continue on the NF journey you will be very Pleased

can i give some advice?! his music has a message. start with the first song on the first cd and go in order. make a full series out of it and try to decode it along the way. first hint; the black balloons he carries, those are his burdens in life that continue to follow him. there are messages in each/most songs and some messages take several song to understand. also look for hints in videos, like the chairs he kicks over or props used in several videos. good luck and enjoy!

He’s amazing, isn’t he? I don’t typically like much rap but NF blows me away every time. I’m hoping you decided to take the NF journey. As for his symbolism, even though you caught a lot, you missed even more, just from being new to NF. For instance his “makeup” reference was from a song Therapy Session about putting on a fake smile. The balloons are his burdens. He came out of nowhere for me also. Separate from The Journey, try out Paid My Dues, in is in response to a Rolling Stones article that trashed him… nytimes too, I think. Because he beat out Chance the Rapper. You can read the article first and then react to the song.
