Is Hey Pikmin Canon?

I believe Hey! Pikmin is not made by Nintendo. Trusting the case of Hyrule Warrior, witch is specifically not canon because it was not made by Nintendo, and knowing how protective Nintendo is, it wouldn't be that surprising that Hey! Pikmin is not canon.

I definitely think it’s possible for hey! pikmin to be canon. It’s a little strange that enemies from PNF-404 are on the hey! pikmin planet as bosses though, I feel like it would’ve made more sense for all new creatures to be on the planet and no enemies we’ve already seen. Kinda just seem like bad writing if it is canon.

I have my own answer to that actually. The nuclear War on Earth was so bad that they relocated to a new planet, only for the same thing to happen twice, showing the fragility on humans and how they were bound to kill themselves in the long run, and explains what old creatures and treasures are doing there. Edit: I gotta start finishing the video first and then commenting .He pretty much said the exact same thing. I still think that if Hey Pikmin is canon, then that would be the answer as to why

The inclusion of sparklium in Pikmin 4 further proves your point, though Pikmin 4's timeline is so messy that its hard to even place it until pikmin 4 is fully out. If we assume H!P is canon, Olimar's use or the SS Dolphin must mean that its either an alternate universe or an alternate timeline. However I feel like even a single shared enemy or treasure would really solidify the whole thing.

Unrelated but I like to think the reason the Dolphin II is powered by sparklium is because the freight company got so fed up with Olimar crashing that they gave it a fuel source obtainable on other planets, just so he stops getting completely stranded.

As I watched this, I realized Hey Pikmin could be non-canon the same way Mario Galaxy 2 is often thought to be: it’s a bedtime story version of Pikmin 1 that Olimar has told his kids. That’s why it takes place on a separate planet that somehow has modern human tech and animals from PNF-404: he just gave it a new name for some reason. The old enemies are bosses now cause he makes them out to be the big bad scary guys while he makes up cute guys for his children, like the chicks and mini breadbugs. Moreover, Sparklium is just some magic fuel he made up cause he didn’t wanna tell his children that his ship completely fell apart and he could’ve died if he didn’t collect enough of the pieces. It all fits oddly together to make a convenient headcanon.

This is a huge stretch and also just makes no sense. Unlike Galaxy 2 nothing hints at it being a storybook or something. Also Olimar references events from Pikmin 1 in Hey Pikmin.

Going by your "the creatures were transported by humans" logic, I think it's also possible this unknown planet was their actual origin and they were brought to PNF-404 by the humans so larger research teams could study them. Just a small thing though. Either way, Pikmin 4 should hopefully give us an answer to this mystery. I more lean into the camp that Hey Pikmin was indeed canon cause I'm overall just open minded. It lines up with stuff Olimar says he wants/likes to do (getting the Dolphin back and treasure hunting), so like, why would I throw a fuss over something like a voice pitch change for one singular word, you know?

I think the fact that the piklopedia in Pikmin 3 Deluxe includes data from Hey! Pikmin is already enough to prove that it is canon. Most of the people who disagree with the game being canon are upset that a game they dislike is being acknowledged as part of the Pikmin series and its lore. It's a little confusing that some fans are so upset by Hey! Pikmin being canon when it opens up the possibility that future games, like Pikmin 4, may take place on different planets with new creatures and biomes to explore.

I'd actually love for the game to be canon, but there being two nearly identical versions of earth just doesn't work for me. I personally like the idea that the planet was just PNF404, and the ship thought it was a different planet because the SS Dolphin 2 had never visited PNF404.

I think, every main Pikmin type has an onion, but you just dont see them, even the green parasites, that take over bulborbs (and maybe even other creatures, but we have only seen bulbmin) and make them bulbmin probably have an onion PS: They glow green, and ARE pikmin parasites, so I think they're green pikmin, but I don't think, Nintendo has ever said so

When I played hey!pikmin I didn't get the hate it was getting. Its just a small game with cute cut scenes and a lot of information written in it. When people talked about this game it mainly had a negative connotation but it wasn't all that necessary in my opinion.

They probably weren't working on Hey Pikmin during Pikmin 2's development, considering it released almost a decade after. They'd have to plan Hey Pikmin in advance to mention Sparklium in Pikmin 2, which is something I doubt happened

I never said that. I said he describes it LIKE it's his first time. For example: "Crashed onto an unknown planet." and "until I encountered a strange species, which I named Pikmin". The reasons I think these show that this was his first time was because if he had been to the planet before, why would he describe it as "unknown"? and when he mentions encountering the Pikmin, it is HEAVILY implied that that was his first time meeting them. The main reasons I saw Hey!Pikmin as non-canon is because it's a spin-off title made by a 3rd party company. Spin-Offs are usually non-canon, and the fact that it's not even made in-house sort of pushes it even further out of canon. THAT BEING SAID, this video does raise good points. And I think, at best, Hey!Pikmin can be viewed as a "lower level" of canon. A single KZbin comment isn't the best place to explain this framework, but the TL;DR of it is that it's canon so long as the mainline games don't start contadicting it. If they have different information, then the main line games have the correct info
