In 1989-1990 I survived nursing school because of Rowan atkinson, hugh laurie and comedy. Now having had to retire early as a nurse this show helps me to remind me " of who I used to be" comedy isn't necessary--- it's mandatory.

Absolutely! The comedy lands in this show in a different way than most. Laurie's established comedy history only makes it better, too.... And of course Mr. Bean is some of the best physical comedy ever made!

I therefore recommend _The Tall Guy._ Atkinson plays an unpleasant version of himself against Jeff Goldblum as his sidekick and Emma Thompson as a nurse. Based on a book by one of Atkinson's actual sidekicks, a kind of revenge fantasy. So if Atkinson can play a bad himself, does this undercut the text?

Hey, at 14:50 you said the baraku was a healer, and you said you were confused about his position as a doctor and a janitor. A Barakumin is a class of peoples considered as outcasts, untouchables, and are the members of the lowest rung of traditional Japanese society. I always thought he was the best doctor in the hospital, but because he was a barakumin no hospital would give him the position of a doctor. So, the higher class doctors would have to go to this low class person and humiliate themselves by asking him for help, which I believe is why House found it so memorable. It didn't matter that he was a class of people most of those doctors wouldn't even spit on, it didn't matter if he was only a janitor. He was right, and that's all that mattered when those doctors would have to go to him.

As a child i was never interested in this show and always wondered why my parents loved the show so much. Now I'm 28 and watching the entire series and instantly know why my parents love the show so much. The show has so many emotions going into it. House himself makes the show a gem. His smart remarks and his quotes do make a lot of sense, but it also has some humor behind the messages.

I relate to House a lot except for the drowning of sadness through addiction. From my years of counseling and facing depression, anxiety, and PTSD, I found it is very important to feel your emotions, understand why you are feeling those emotions, and acknowledge/accept them. Trust me I have won over five counselors. My first counselor was so overwhelmed when I detailed everything on the topics of emotions, the root causes of them, and the ways I have dealt with them. I even explained it calmly. She ended up waving the white flag and stated she felt that she might be unable to handle my problems and referred me to another counselor.

One correction: HOUSE does not use his cane with the wrong leg. I know this because I use a cane primarily to relieve some of the pressure off of my chronic and debilitating (also a mystery) foot pain. We know that HOUSE can walk although with a pronounced limp without using his cane in his home. I do not use my cane when around my house but whenever I'm walking a distance and I do not have opportunity to sit down frequently. In my case both my feet hurt almost equally but my left one can be a bit worse sometimes. I use my cane on my right side with my right hand... I cannot get into a rhythm with my left hand for some reason, it's like trying to do anything with your non dominant hand - which is my left. But technically having the cane on the right for me is better for me anyway because my cane and left foot are on the ground at the same time. I also use the cane for some balance as well as I'm prone to rolling ankles due to severely weak ankles and using my stronger hand/arm keeps me more stable. Some people may point to a scene where Wilson or a dog have damaged House's cane and he falls when his cane fails as proof that he cannot stay upright without it... I say thats wrong. Even if a completely able bodied person were to walk with a cane (for acting or for fashion) and if the cane were to suddenly hit ice, they would fall because your center of gravity changes slightly and sudden momentum will throw anyone off balance. House uses his cane for the same reasons I do and it's as needed, as best fits us.
@somewhereinthemiddle6534
@somewhereinthemiddle6534 9 ай бұрын
Haha thanks for watching :) I know from a clinical standpoint, the proper use of a cane involves supporting the opposite side of the injured or weak leg. So, if House had a right leg injury, he should use the cane to support his left side for better balance and weight distribution. Him doing it incorrectly is more to demonstrate he doesn't do things by the book, the most efficiently, and hates following rules. He doesn't care that it's wrong and is probably hurting his good leg. I think there's even an instance in the show where someone points out it's wrong (like a non-main character, can't remember). Trust me I did PLENTY of research on this before posting lol. The below link is the orthopedic college of surgeons information on it: orthoinfo.aaos.org/en/recovery/how-to-use-crutches-canes-and-walkers/ Obviously each individual has different needs and I'm not a doctor lol but the medical community recognizes that House is doing it the WRONG way.

Sure, I'm sorry. since I'm not a doctor, I always hesitate to give medical advice. All I know from personal experience is that sometimes there is a strange connection between unexplained leg/foot/knee pain and colon health; severe inflammation and disturbed micro biome in my case. Once I sorted it out, the leg pain magically disappeared. And it used to be really bad. Hope this helps.

You claim House isn’t neurotic, yet I feel he fits the criteria quite well. He’s not raging all the time, he uses sarcastic & outspoken quips to hide his feelings as well as numb himself, much like his Vicodin. He’s constantly over analyzing everything: his patients, his colleagues, the people surrounding the cases… and he knows how he’s perceived. He hates people praising him for being as smart as he is unless he’s super close to them (Cuddy & Wilson, respectively). Much like other with neurodivergent conditions (and House screams ND of some form to me, but it could be him just being an addict too), he masks his true feelings a lot because when he does get close, it hurts him more than he ever lets on. That’s what makes the SA patient rough to deal with. That’s what makes Kuttner’s death hit so hard. That’s what makes him never want to lose his friendship with Wilson, as they have a true plutonic bond. When he no longer has his pain, he’s scared cause he can’t use it for an excuse to take pain meds or mask himself away as easily. He’s a waking ball of emotions, he just can’t always let them out how he wants to or knows better to try his best to reel them in.
@somewhereinthemiddle6534

Yeah you know, upon thinking about this...I actually think you bring up excellent points. House doesn't seem like a typical neurotic person - but he is controlled by his negative emotions more than it would seem. All his bad decision making is fueled by a deeply seeded insecurity and being lost in the world. I think when you think of neurotic characters like George from Seinfeld - they're more overtly 'over the top upset' about small things. But you're correct - House is probably way more neurotic than average. I'll have to make some changes in future episodes : )

For me, Dr Walter Bishop from Fringe is the best t.v character of all time. Essentially a mad scientist with memory and some mental degradation, he is both a pitiful and terrifying character, a sympathetic monster, ultimately a good but heavily flawed and haunted man. I really liked this show and they did very well with dialogue, character development and realism. Relativity. A series called "The Good Doctor" tried this and failed pretty bad. I don't think anyone has tried it since, but I wish they would. At least that show tried, but doing very flawed characters is hard without making them incredibly annoying. Especially if they are supposed to be a protagonist

The very thought that someone so fundamentally decent, honest, and good (but not perfectly good, which is important if you know the show) could ever be part of the F.B.I is so amusing. Lynch's F.B.I is about as realistic as House becoming a completely altruistic saint.

47:00 nice video, but you got the MBTI part wrong. MBTI is pseudoscience used to figure out how somebody processes things, the model you used is the wrong (oversimplified) version. Types are separated in extroverted/introverted cognitive functions, that serve as a measure of what the focus of the individual is directed at and it doesn’t inherently mean that one is the typical extrovert/introvert, but just where their focus lies. INTJ doesn’t suit House and also wouldn’t match your character analysis of him. In addition to MBTI (Jungs model) enneagram/socionics is also used to determine subtypes in which case I would say that House is an ENTP (INT) sp/so 7w8 784 SLUEI!! Just a small correction because that vexed me (lol reference).

What are you talking about "using the cane on the wrong leg"? It's his right leg that hurts, and he leans on the cane when he has to put weight on the leg, so that not all of his weight is on it. I don't think you understand how canes work. Also: why do you say "arche-a-type" instead of "archetype"? It should sound like "Architect", except you say "type" instead of "tect".
@somewhereinthemiddle6534

Not sure you understand either lol. So with canes, you're supposed to use it to support the weight on the OPPOSITE leg - as it gets more strained over time, since you aren't putting as much weight on the injured leg and putting more on the uninjured one. There's some debate, but most orthopedists will attest to this. House uses it as his 'weight-bearing' limb, which can be more damaging to both. This article is interesting and addresses the debate: www.thegaitguys.com/thedailyblog/2019/2/24/house-md-is-he-using-his-cane-on-the-correct-side- And to your second point - we all speak differently and have little idiosyncrasies in how we speak. I used to say 'chwenty' when saying the number 20 lol. Hope you've having a good day!

@@somewhereinthemiddle6534 I think you're confusing crutches with canes. They really don't work the same way. The article you linked even specifically says he is using the cane correctly. Idiosyncrasies are fine, but come on, man, it's okay to admit you've made a couple of mistakes in several hours worth of high quality video. I didn't mean to come off that harsh, it's just that there's a lot of content, and I tried to comment as I watch the whole thing :) Thanks for putting it up!

Perhaps you're right! I did research on it and it said you're supposed to support the other leg. Even in the show multiple people point out how its wrong...but you're right, it might be more of a crutch thing. Oh trust me my friend I've made many mistakes LOL. I also have said it incorrectly in the next 2 videos I'm currently working on so I guess the 3rd I'll have to change hahaha. I recognize this video isn't perfect even close to it, but hoping every video gets a little cleaner and better. I also think it'll get more interesting as i get more charcaters on the board. Thanks for watching ❤️

i use my cane in exactly the same way and reasons as the OP. My bad leg won’t hold me up without additional help. Maybe I am too “disabled” to use a cane and a walker or wheelchair instead of a cane. Nether the less…

I really loved the first 2 -3 seasons and 4 and 5 had great episodes. The last 3 seasons were ropey at best. I think the sexualisation of House was quite damaging to the character in the long term, there's a point where every other female character makes googly eyes at him and as much as I get why we think is House is hot- we know him and his complex layers but its just not realistic that everyone would be that enamoured by him. I think these soap opera side plots became a big distraction, especially in season 5 onwards. I know lots of people say 'we don't watch it for the medicine' but the best episodes I think are when House is just being a great doctor and antagonising his team and Cuddy and using Wilson as a sound board.

5:40 no he didn't. There was no mystery to solve. Him connecting with her did not have impact on him getting something right or wrong, This shows that his typical approach could be conscious and he does care about the patients. With serious conditions at least.

His typical approach was to be cold, unempathetic, and barely meet with the patient. When the diagnosis was met, he'd often not be there - or not care anymore. All about the puzzle, right? With Eve he doesn't do this. He stays after, talks to her, 'I care what you think', etc. This isn't typical - as I stated. This episode was a good example of showing a different side of House, yes, that is always there - but one we don't get to see very often.
