Is iCloud Private Relay Better Than a VPN?

my only problem with private relay is the amount of captchas i have to complete when doing basic google searches. it gets a little ridiculous at times but hey idrc at the end of the day

iCloud Private Relay only has IP,addresses in your region, e.g., US southeast, I believe. You get an IP address from Australia for example.

What I’m not clear about is that if I turn on Apple private relay do I still need a VPN or will one cancel out the other? I use Safari 99% of the time so I’m wondering if I should let my VPN subscription lapse in favour of the Apple private relay.

If you use Safari 99% of the time you might be OK with just private relay but you can also use Safari and other browsers too if you want to keep the VPN.

@@RobFreeman OK thanks. But I did some more research and found that I should keep my VPN because I go on Facebook a lot and the Apple private relay won’t keep it private.

@@MRose-f3u I’d say that’s pretty academic since Facebook tracks and logs all your activity on there anyway, and that’s likely encrypted between the app and facebooks servers. Ergo a VPN won’t make your Facebook activity any more hidden. email use could be somewhat more private with a VPN since email is pretty unsecure relatively speaking.
