Good job.... I've done the same thing on a few.. ordered the one that was listed and no be right....sucks....just had a stator bad reading right out of the box...I check them all now before I put them on.... those 3 cyls can be tricky to balance...they all seem to have a little shake at idle.... Hey if you have some how to get in touch with you...I'd like to pick your brain on one...if ok....keep up the videos there very helpful...

I replaced the trigger, stator and bothe rectifiers on my black max 175 mercury engine and it seemed to be running great first trip out then when I took it out and was using my fish finders I noticed a occasional misfire then it progressively got worse and after maybe 2 trips later I took off drove around 5 miles from where I put the boat in it runs Great till I slowed down then it shut off and didn't want to idle at all.... Since then I have rebuilt the fuel pump replaced the switch boxes cleaned the carbs checked the reeds checked compression and even tried to swap out the trigger but it will not crank with the motor lowered in the water but it will out of the water and has a bad misfire I would hate to give up on it but I am running out of options

Check all your grounds. Get a CDI trouble shooting guide. Were they Mercury or quicksilver, CDI parts you put on? You'll have to start by checking everything make sure everything is firing, check your coils, and make sure its getting fuel and you don't have a collapsed fuel line. It can be frustrating just hang in there.

@hawkeyemarine yeah I replaced all my vacuum lines all my fuel lines I know I'm getting spark on all the cylinders but I feel like it is firing in the wrong order or double firing at some point and that's where I'm lost at I have swapped the trigger over and put the one I had previously on there and I never had a misfire I just had a problem when I change the stator trigger and rectifiers

@hawkeyemarine jetunit stator and trigger. I'm actually considering putting the original stator back on to see if the misfire goes away and that may at least eliminate because it ran fine until the battery started dying and then it would still run great at low RPM

@@nickburns9125 double check your flywheel and see which one you have. You might have a different flywheel for the parts you ordered. Send me the model number I'll look it up.

@@nickburns9125 I would put the orginal components back on. Get a CDI troubleshooting guide downloadable. Go through the guide and see if you can find the issue. If your power packs are double stacked the inside one will go out first because it gets hottest the fastest.

When you were looking for the number 2 spark I saw that you had another spark around 120 degrees clockwise showing number 3. The number 2 coil should only show a single spark around the flywheel not two sparks, one at the right place plus another one anywhere around the flywheel. It seems like number 2 coil is sending two sparks, one where it should and a second one where it shouldn't. That looks like a bad switchbox. A good switchbox should send only one pulse per revolution for each coil. Not two nor three pulses, but just a single one at the right position of the flywheel. These engines tend to have bad coils that kill the switchbox. The engine seems to work alright because each cylinder gets the right spark on tine, but a second spark should never appear when checking the timing. Each sparkplug should spark only once per revolution, when the piston is at, or very close, to the upper dead point. If the sparkplug sends a second spark this could cause ignition of the air and fuel mixture inside the cylinder getting flames inside very much the same as any engine working right sends flames only towards the exhaust manifold. A second or a third spark out of time may cause an extreme heat inside a cylinder. I think this is what is causing my 1997 Mercury 135hp v6 to trigger the temperature alarm when temperature gauge reads 3/4 of full deflection after a couple of minutes at above 3000 or 4000 rpm getting planing speeds. I have replaced water pump, thermostats and poppet valve but my engine keeps getting too hot, although it runs powerful. Another weird symptoms are some pops when starting sometimes. I am going to order 6 new coils and 2 new switchboxes.
