since the SNCF is state organized, they should consider granting subsidies to the SNCF based on the number of passengers they carry per quarter, which is like a carbon credit for the fuel saved by choosing this train carrier, such as subsidized monthly passes, the number of monthly passes would be the basis for the amount of carbon credit funding the SNCF recives. And try to stick some transparency measures in with that package.

That would be awful, many lines that are extremely popular need no cost at all, when some that are less popular and are important - vital, even - need the most money. and then you also run into the problem of a line not being attractive because of the lack of investment. Not giving it money will kill it further when it could be more popular.

The orange TGV is so stunningly beautiful, so symbolic, so recognizable.

This puts Britain to shame. We have a pathetic rail service, that royally rips people off. If we are ever to tempt people out of their cars then we need really good public transport, at a reasonable price.

I've ridden aboard ECML and WCML trains in England, including the Pendolino when it was still run by Virgin. Not bad, in some ways similar to our Northeast Corridor here in the United States. Will be interesting to see what gets completed first, HS2 in England or California High Speed Rail! In the meantime, at least our next generation Acela is a true TGV, though it'll run at 160 mph (257 km/hr) max despite being capable of 186 mph (300 km/hr).

@@mj1234321 technicaly Technically, the new Acela can go 217 mph. It is like the Euroduplex capable of this speed in commercial service.

@@mj1234321 It's logical that the new Acela is a real TGV since it's a real TGV developed by France

It would be great to have high-speed rail in Australia, but I doubt the numbers will ever stack up, with our relatively small population and very long distances. We’d rather have nuclear powered subs than very fast trains.

With the advent of modern communications why is everyone so eager to go fast, slow down and enjoy the scenery your not that important to get somewhere fast.
