Interesting video! Some of the reviews on Amazon and Reddit that I've seen about these brushes suggest that they do not perform well after a few uses. The hairs "split" like when a person, say, overprocesses her hair with too many chemicals and gets split ends, and will not hold a point like a proper sable brush. The weird belly was noted too: it wouldn't clean well like a true Kolinsky which was frustrating to one person who bought them. While I am personally not a user of real sable (or animal hair) brushes because of the type of conditions factory sable, etc are raised in, if this brush set is a decent knock off for a newer painter, it sounds like they would work as an intro to "some kind of sable".

i can't comment on others' experiences as i don't know their background but you're right, these would be great as a sable intro :)

Talens Rembrandt Series 100 Kolisky, are the only inexpensive Kolisky, that perform at the highest level. These here do not look high quality, tey look cheap Rembrandt Seires 100, look better than Raphael in person and perform as good, if not better! Raphael, Da Vinci and Royal Talens Rembrandt series 100, are the top 3 Kolisky brushes you can get at the moment. Winsor & Newton used to be as good, but they are nowhere near, what they used to be...unce upon a time!

I bought another Fuumuui-set after your review and I have to say the step from synthetic to natural hair is bigger than I thought. I will need time to get used to them. Thank you One more thing: I live in Europe and many things are just not easily available here. So I order some things from Amazon and some from Temu. The first set which didn't include the cats tongue and the flat brushes I got on Temu. So I tried the Fuumuui-shop and not only do they offer free shipping to the middle of Europe but your discount code worked so thank you for that too!

I wonder how they source the sable hair for the brushes to get them to be so inexpensive? Also, I know from my purchase from Rosemary that Kolinsky sable brushes aren't able to be exported to the US; are these products available to US customers?
@achyif1
@achyif1 11 ай бұрын
sable (and "wolf") in the context of paint brushes generally means any kind of weasel hair. The only type of "sable" brush that isnt allowed to be imported to the US is from the siberian weasel ("kolinsky sable") - which is also the highest quality/most expensive kind of sable brush. But there are many other kinds of weasel hair brushes sold under the label of "sable". I'm pretty sure sometimes stuff labeled sable isn't even weasel. It's not exactly a regulated term. Generally cheap sable brushes are made with other kinds of weasel hair - they may be more cheaply made, more floppy hairs, less water capacity, etc. And they are available to US customers. That said the kolinsky sable brushes still find their way to the US (something to do with paperwork I believe?) - you can buy them from major art retailers, and you can get rosemary kolinsky brushes from wind river and arts co

THIS WAS AN EXCELLENT REVIEW OF THE KOLINSKI RUSSIAN SABLE BRUSHES AND AT THAT PRICE, WHAT A GREAT VALUE! YOU WENT OVER EACH TEST THROUGHLY THAT SEPARATES SYNTHETIC VERSES REAL ANIMAL HAIR BRUSHES. THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN BOTH KINDS OF BRUSHES FOR AN ARTIST AND WHAT MEDIUM IS USED. ALSO, I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED BY YOUR ART WORK. IT'S VERY NICE. ❤ I FOUND WATER COLOR TO BE CHALLENGING WHILE OILS WERE WAY MORE FORGIVING. MOST OF MY EXPERIENCE WAS WITH GAUCHE, BUT OILS WERE MY BEST BUDDY. ❤. STRETCHING MY OWN CANVAS WAS INTERESTING.😬 GETTING EVERYTHING EVEN. WHEW! THEN, THE PREPPING. 🙄. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR EXCELLENT REVIEW OF THE BRUSHES AND YOUR "HOW TO" TESTING TO FIND SYNTHS VERSES REAL HAIR BRUSHES. FANTASTIC CHECKING. 👍.

Wow, so many things I never knew about different brush types. Thanks! 🙏😁 Another way of telling natural from synthetic is if you run your fingers downwards on the outer layer of dry natural hair bristles the bristles will slide down with your fingers, as opposed to a synthetic bristle brush, which you can slide your fingers down the bristles smoothly and no bristles will follow your fingertips. This is because synthetic bristles are like smooth cylinder tubes, and natural hairs have microscopic layers which stick out. (I hope the way I explained that makes sense? 🤪😅 Lol)
@PaintinHiding
@PaintinHiding 11 ай бұрын
glad you found the vid informative ;D hmmm... i don't quite understand the sliding but i understand the concept. that said, i dont know about other synthetic sables but rosemary's synthetic sable ... though being synthetic, the bristles also have microscopic layers that stick out as well. they were developed that way to fully mimic natural sable. again, that's rosemary's. i dont know about other synthetic sables.

Just a thought…when you bend the brush look for the tell-tale ‘glow’ that comes with the inclusion of synthetic fiber. Also, where was the ‘kolinsky’ collected from? Farmed animals? Perhaps kept in tiny cages? Was the hair collected from fallen hair or are the animals shaved or worse plucked (ouch!). Hmmm, now that $22. doesn’t sound quite so wonderful. To me, at least.

Talens Rembrandt Series 100 Kolinsky No8, costs only 20 euro!! and it's as good, if not better ,than Raphael 8404 Kolisky.or Da Vinci Maestro Series 10!!! PS Royal Talens Rembrandt Series 100, are the only , brushes in the world, that you get way more, than what you pay. The rest of them all, is "You get, what you pay for" PS Chinese, are experts at making a product look like way better, than it actually is, they are masters at that. Where the quality shows though, especially on brushes, is on how long they last, and how they perform, after a short while..That's my personal experience.

Hi, Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad). I just found this video in KZbin and, after watching it, I must say I cannot agree on your evaluation of three brushes... But allow me to introduce myself... I am a Wildlife and Nature artist (Dry Media - Graphite, Charcoil and many other dry mediums; Wet Media - Ink, Watercolor and Gouache - not acrylic). I have these Fuumuui Brushes (for Studio) as well as their Travel Brushes (for Plein Air and Urban Sketching). My studio (professional) Brushes are mainly Escoda and Da Vinci (best 2 world wide brands!). Rosemary & Co. are good too, but for some brushes only (I also have them). And Raphael are pretty good workhorses but don't last that long. What do I use my Fuumuuy for? Brushes that I can abuse daily for special strokes, effects, etc. I also have some good chinese/Japanese eSumi calligraphy brushes that outperform way better these Fuumuui Brushes. By the way (BTW), they are made with natural hair but it is NOT REAL Kolinsky hair... Sorry but it is the truth! What are these brushes good for? Beginners in watercolor or Gouache that do not want to spend a lot of money to start up a hobby. And that's it! If you are serious about Art and Painting... these brushes are not for you. I hope I can help others with my experience and knowledge (not trying to hurt this channel). And I thank you for sharing to others. Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎✌

One more thing I forgot to explain.. When talking about Kolinski Brushes it is VERY important to understand if the "hair" comes from the male or the female animal. The make Kolinski hair IS the best hair and the most expensive one. The Female Kolinski hair IS second to none and also VERY expensive, but cheaper than the male hair. This is due to the actual properties if the hair, and nothing to do with anything else (socially and culturally nowadays). The hair on the Fuumuui Brushes are NOT Kolinski! They are made from a different animal. Cheers!

hi jim, thanks for your thorough testimony. i welcome people to share their experiences and insights so your comment will definitely be useful for anyone reading. it’s an honor to have an artist of your caliber weigh in on these brushes. i must say that i dont know the difference between male and female kolinsky as i havent seen brush brands specifically say whether they use male or female. that said, im glad we csn at least agree that these brushes are definitely some sort of natural animal hair. 😊 i’ve never been to new york or spain… definitely on my bucket list. i hear the weather is changing so please look after yourself and take care! 🥰

Ridiculous. You admit you have an interest in this product. That means inherent bias. That is simply a fact. Gullible people might think you can buy a Ferrari for the price of a Ford, but people who know that if it sounds too good to be true it ALWAYS is. Watch the hairs fall out as you wash them. You pay for crap you get crap. Any artist can see these are not Kolinsky. Just by looking at them. Aside from that, you did a nice job.

Ok........ I feel uncomfortable about your use of the P word to describe how the brushes expanded outwards when you put them into water. I also know you would not have meant anything remotely negative or bad by using it. Sadly, that word (spelt the same way) in the UK is also a homophobic slur - a (somewhat old-fashioned) pejorative term for a gay man. I don't think it has this meaning outside the UK, but I felt I had to say something so you know for the future. 😕 Words can have a minefield of alternative meanings worldwide! 🫢🫣😆

I 100% understood Vee's meaning and the context in which she used it. I just wanted to let her know (very gently) that that is a word that also has a very negative meaning to some people too. I don't think that is being over-sensitive. Personally In the UK I think we would say it puffed up! 😊 Yes language is a funny one. We have that meaning too @derwood206 but it is very rarely used for anything other than a cigarette, and even then is not used for that all that much these days. The american term for a "bum bag" (F.... pack) makes me wince (or giggle like a school child) depending on context and what else is said - definitely a different meaning here. 🤭😂 Words can have so many different (sometimes not remotely apparent) meanings... 😆
