Unless a further contract was signed during this period in regards to a “void fight” or “further extension” the contract IS OVER. Forget this narrative of “you should be grateful” “he bought you a Rolex” “you only here because of him” ! That is irrelevant, the CONTRACT is over, the BUSINESS is over ! Matchroom has no right to hold him back. So Okolie's argument is that his contract was not based on number of fights but duration and that it had expired. Matchroom's argument according to Okolie is that he had one more fight left because the covid global lockdown period didn't count as part of the contract period. However matchroom have to prove they had a definitive fight planned and that okolie had backed out of it. He says his own law experts and others (ie ben shalom) have said matchroom are wrong on this. Well, if ben shalom was wrong, would he give a damn? it isnt his problem. he just gets to see his rival lose a potential name. Still i don't think okolie would be any good as a HW anyway. He'll get splattered. on Boxxer he'll get served to frazier clarke who will beat him.

If we’re all being honest, I think 99% of us agreed with Hearn before even hearing Okolie’s side of things. Lawrence came across really well in this interview and while the truths often somewhere in the middle, who can blame Okolie for wanting the best deal for himself? If its true that Hearn / Matchroom were trying to find loopholes and discounting the Jeżewski (Glowacki’s replacement) fight and demanding £500k to buy himself out, thats bad form. A contracts a contract so I guess we’ll see who wins on this one. The Django tweets were categorically wrong so good to see him apologise for that.
