Do you actually know someone that got accepted with a low GPA? I know people tend to say not to worry but I still think GPA is usually what prevents people from being accepted, and so far I've only seen people with a high GPA get in. I have very strong work experience in my field as a production assistant and live sound engineer and have skills in the degree that I am seeking (Communications Studies) and have experience being in Japan and have a blog about my trip to show my interest. I also have taught Beginning Japanese as a private tutor at my school. Is it still worth trying if I have a 3.0 gpa or lower?

they rejected me despite submitting major awards and achievements... the low requirements are so they can encourage more people to apply than they know they can accept. by being able to reject more applicants the "acceptance rate" of the school remains low, making them appear to be exclusive. works for their numbers, but wastes time for motivated learners

Hey! Thanks for the video. There are limited sources from recent students out there regarding TUJ, so this was helpful. I'd be really interested to hear what your personal pros and cons of TUJ are. I am currently deciding whether I want to attend undergrad at TUJ or attend a university in America and study abroad instead.

Hey! There’s a ton of info on their website but look into application dates for the semester you’re wanting to apply for. I’d apply as early as possible to get early acceptance, also great for scholarships since you’re a first priority. The application fee is about 100 dollars and requirements are standard to the US college applications. SAT/ACT scores aren’t required but recommended and extracurriculars are a major plus. You will also be asked to write an essay (500 words I think) about why you want to come there specifically. After that’s submitted you’ll wait a few months for a hopeful acceptance! Then comes the fun part, visa application. You’re asked to have 3 million yen (~26,000 USD) as proof of financial viability to apply for the visa. I didn’t get any scholarships so I saved about 10k from working, 7k from the pell grant, and the rest in loans. If you have any more specific. questions, please just send a reply and make sure to check their website out!!

Best of luck! My advice would be doing early admissions. For TUJ, I'd suggest applying by November 1st for fall admissions of the next year. The tuition and financial aid info is on their site and you're always welcome to email the school with any specific questions.

Hi! Great video, the tips on the statement really helped! I'm writing mine and applying in a few days but I have several sentences dedicated to my grandparents being stationed there and their love of the culture rubbing off on me. Is how you were introduced to the culture important to them or do you think I should replace this was something else school related? It's tough saying everything in only 400 words hahaha. Thanks!

@@seoulsearcher7628 I just arrived a month ago so haven't been here long, but it already helps a TON. Depending on your major, the grammar and vocabulary take some studying but the Kanji is the hard part as most people will probably tell you and being able to go outside and see what you're learning everywhere helps so much to not forget it. I couldn't imagine learning Kanji without living here. And just being out in the city listening to everything happening helps your listening skills. The experience itself is really amazing, there's always something to do and you can walk around the city for hours and still feel like you haven't seen much. Most stores are 7-8 floors and you can spend a few hours in each one looking around. I'm never bored here lol, although I highly suggest making friend with other students because unless you speak the language a decent bit, you won't be making many Japanese friends outside of school. People in the city don't really stop and talk to you so it can be lonely feeling without some friends to fall back on or explore with

Hello! I am just wondering if you are able to double major or have a minor in TUJ. Since majority of the Japanese universities do not really have the "double major" system. I have applied 4 seperate times as a transfer student since Spring 2019, Fall 2019, Spring 2020 (current semester) and as of writing this comment, Just got denied for the Summer 2020 semester. I even did as they asked and improve my GPA dramatically at my current institution. To make matters worse you during summer 2019 I even applied and was accepted to the main campus in Philadelphia with a lower gpa then my current. Isn't the minimum GPA to transfer to tuj 2.50? Why do they keep telling me fuck you to me?

I got accepted last year, and my GPA was 3.74 weighted, I took 2 AP classes but absolutely flunked my AP tests. You're not required to send any test scores (even SAT and ACT) when applying. I did a lot of extracurriculars (band, robotics, NHS, leadership stuff, etc.) It's not completely about grades, make sure you have extracurriculars as well. If you're applying, best of luck!

@@TotallyNotDoggo yeah, actually at school right now! it’s definitely a different experience, if your heart is set on japan it’s a good transitional experience but the university definitely is not for everyone. The campus is only one building and you will get to know everyone almost immediately, it’s very small and can frustrate a lot of people, but I really do enjoy most of my professors as they have the same passion as I did going in, and I’m sure you as well! Tuition is not too expensive, although their japanese language programs are not that great, it’s honestly the best of both worlds.

@@TotallyNotDoggo I'm an art major! I'm a bit biased but I think the art major is one of the best at the school, the professors are super helpful and there are great sources with multiple studios and mac labs, the classes are pretty educational as well and foundational for an art student. I have friends in Psych and CS and they've told me the classes are not that benefical, as the teachers are either super intensive or have dated curriculums, and I know for CS there simply isn't enough classes here for the major so you have to move to main campus to get required credits your senior year. What major are you looking into?
