The worst thing to me about ocd, hocd in particular is that as you said you have to live your life the way you want, do things you want, i agree, but the worst thing is to me that i dont even know what i feel and what i dont, so i have to do the things that i think are right, and i lost the ability to tell what i am feeling because i dont even know what is genuinely what are MY feelings, and what are the made up feelings the things i made up in my head, i cant even tell the difference

Hey! Doesn’t matter if it’s a thought or feeling, if you keep listening to the fear and OCD your brain will perceive it as a threat even though it’s not! Try ignoring feeling just like thoughts related to OCD even though it’s hard. God Bless and have a nice day!

Imagine yourself trapped in a room, and suddenly a monster appears and it’s telling you and forcing you to perform actions/rituals you don’t want to do, and you have to go along with what ever it tells you or else someone you love will die or something horrible will happen if you don’t do/perform what ever it’s telling you to do. And this monster reappears every 5 minutes and the cycle continues. That is what living with OCD feels like. Wouldn’t wish this on anyone.

How to get rid of your OCD; Trigger warning, strong topic (myself as an example): I want you guys to give an example for what OCD can make you believe, when its not your theme you can see how redicilous it is. I had a big fear of losing private data like a scanned passport, so my fear was losing SD cards with private information on it. I never scanned my passport... I would go out of my way and open up my smoked up rolled sigarettes (my country you roll sigarettes) because I felt there could be (even though sigarettes are to small) an SD card in it. It had to be fallen in to it because it felt like it. Now I have severe harm and p OCD. I am somewhat impulsive, I have been a rough teenager but nothing too crazy. Generally I am a very kind and warm person, due to autism I can be a bit cold because I try to solve stuff logically but my heart is soft. OCD convinced me I could be a r*pist that wants to act out. Internal feelings or uneasyness are interpreted like an urge to do something, ocd then sends a lot of intrussions, very very very vivid bad intrussions. My point is, this is how real it can get. It can really tell you from the gut instinct something is very wrong. It can let you question and believe your a very bad person. If you say no to it, it will take something from your history and trow it at you completely out of perspective, and gasslights you in to thinking there is something very wrong with you. It can gasslight your sexuality, your morals, your feelings, your intentions, send guild, fear, anxiety, 'unsolved feelings'. Listen up, here is how to get rid off it. Here is the complete plan to get rid of your OCD: 1. You need to accept OCD for what it is completely. The feelings of realness, fear, anxiety, every bad feeling from it, intrussions, what if's, etc 2. But what if its not OCD? Go back to point one, you didnt fully accept it as ocd. 3. How to accept it? Take the "chance" it is ocd, which isnt a chance but feels like one, don't use this for reasurance. 4. Go as 'cold turkey' as possible with compulsions. This means fast as possible, imperfections happen, don't beat yourself up for it. Compulsions are: Rumination, what if thoughts, thinking about trueness of the thoughts, everything about your ocd theme, checking, handwashing, everything you do to reduce stress. The last one is very very very important because that rule apply. A compulsion can be to relax when having intrussive thoughts, these are hidden compulsions. 5 catalyst thought. These are technically rumination thoughts but go unoticed because you really try to figure out how bad the situation is, you are already in ocd land, go back to point 1. This also includes: what if its not ocd, i am never going to recover, any negative self talk, its all ocd fuel. 6. Write down how much you ruminate (in minutes) (important) Example, A day can look like this 6+8+4+30 and so on, write it down, with the total, do this every day all day, but as passively as possible. Try to reduce it with 10 minutes a day. 7. You NEED to live like you don't have ocd. Go to school, take up responsabillity's. Get out of the rut you live in. You can not get through OCD recovery in a bubble. 8. OCD is curable. I have seen it when people really get trough it it can dissapear entirely. The key is to not stop recovery when your cured but change the reaction you give to anxiety irl, because this is often the trigger for new ocd episodes. I failed doing this, and am back in OCD land. 9. The reason why 'specialists' say you can't. They only do exposures and think your ocd is magically going to disapear, exposures are good but are no substitude for the real thing, stopping the reaction. It can fix your theme but OCD can, and often will switch to the next thing your afraid off. Hirarchy erp will keep your OCD chronic at best. 10. Everyone seem to keep a OCD thing they don't get rid off completely, it will take you back to OCD land. This one is very personal. I had 1 OCD behaviour left and wasnt willing to let it go. I did it once in a while while recovered and by keeping on that flame I am back with severe OCD. 11. OCD will get very bad when you refuse reaction. Go back to 1.

I have an OCD assessment to explore a diagnosis this week through NOCD. There's no doubt in my mind that this is OCD (even though there are doubts, I'm too stubborn to listen). I'm excited and nervous, but as I've told my family, "OCD has activated my challenge accepted mode." To which we all laugh, because my challenge accepted mode is my ultimate power up and they know I'm serious & determined to beat it. Nathan, you've been a life saver. The video where you call OCD a bully is what kicked me into gear. I'm ready to live my life with OCD and I'm in the driver's seat, not the OCD. Thank you for all the work you do. I hope to contact you one day in the future and tell you how well I'm doing. 😊

Hey Nate, I wish she would do more videos on how things IT that’s what I’m struggling with right now and it moves from topic to topic to topic to topic till I can make sure 100%. That is not what is wrong with me because my anxiety is pretty much almost all day well, most of the day and I have to make sure if the compulsion sites trying to but I’m doing like the checking the lab work the doctor visits, making sure I am to the point where it’s making my anxiety worse I mean my compulsions are not working anymore for me, so I am slowly whittling away at not giving in to some of my compulsions, and just setting with the fear and anxiety and letting it just kind of wash over me and just keep doing it over and over and over again till eventually, my brain is like OK, there’s no threat here , I just started yesterday. I absolutely committed to the fact that I have got health anxiety OCD and I can’t know for sure that nothing bad is going to happen. I don’t have the heart palpitation the heart Cody cardiophobia it’s just it’s other topics. Anyway thanks, Nate.

A lot of helpful information in this video about those ocd moments of unnecessary doubt, and why we are having them then lead to the compulsion to problem solve the "problem" that ocd throws up through anxiety - the compulsion to solve ocd's doubt can be hard to resist, but this video helps put a lot of things in perspective. Thanks :)

Can you please make a video on Pure-O? Mostly I don't have any specific compulsions now but it has wired down into obsessive thinking that cannot lead anywhere. It's a kind of continual rumination that doesn't stop despite trying the utmost to just sit with the anxiety and fears. They just keep going on and on. As there is no way to CERTAINLY Reassure myself that the thing I fear won't happen,it just sits there as a nagging doubt in my brain. I wish I could receive some inputs on it if possible.

My Problem with OCD(in my case HOCD) is that the feelings wich i dont want to be real, feel real and thinks like a good feeling if thinking about kissing a man or be in a relationship with a man feel comfortable. And then i start falling down in big dark hole, because thats not me, i know it because i had a girlfriend and was realy in love with her. But i dont understand why the feelings i dont want to be real, be real in this short moment. After me and my ex broke up, i didnt have hocd thoughts and i feelt comfortable and so real, i was enjoying my life an was sure about my sexuality. But than it came back and now i have the fear that could be Bisexuell... And everything feels so real and but thats not me, if i dont think about it and dont do tests there is no feeling for man only if i do the tests... can somebody relate? I need help, it destroys my life.. I think I tell myself all this and that's why it feels real...is this possible?

My experience has been there's not quite a word for it; because "I" am not actually scared or anxious about something, I am not actually worried about something, but that's kind of the best words we have available... I am frozen and overwhelmed by doubt/fear/worry/anxiety even though I know it doesn't make sense, or I'm not actually worried about it, etc. I put "I" in quotes because it seems the conscious experiencing I isn't the one experiencing whatever the OCD is, but feeling the effects of whatever thing/part is freaked out. Sometimes too it feels like meaning is distorted; it's not psychosis, but like something of the realness and accuracy of meaning making is not working right...

What a bunch of respectful, considerate people. 🙄 You should move out if they can’t respect your stuff and talk to you that way. Who wants to be told your opinion doesn’t matter. Why live that way? But, remember there are germs most everywhere and our bodies/immune systems get used to them. I work as a cashier and have touched many things people have and who knows what’s on the items. But, I’m not compelled to go wash my hands after each person, I don’t have that fear of contamination that you do. I sanitize and wash when I can but try to realize that you will never rid yourself of every germ, it’s not possible. I get a cold once a year, but that’s about it. So, if it was true everyday germs and being around the public can make you deathly ill, I would have been a goner along time ago. Make yourself touch everyday things that you are afraid of, (I’m not talking about having no common sense and running your hands through cat litter) and then, resist going and washing your hands. You’re still here as an adult, so that means getting germs on you since childhood, didn’t wipe you from the planet yet. 😊

1. You know that you probably have another OCD thought/problem 2. But the thought or problem feels very real for you 3. You ask yourself what if that particular thought or problem is not just OCD 4. You get very unsecure and do your compulsions

I know usually u don't answer comments but man i need to do this... I'm 17 years old and have been suffering from ocd for 3 years already, my ocd themes started with HOCD than Religious OCD and there was a little gap between worse of my ocd themes few weeks after i had ocd about my nationalism (thoughts were like "what if I'm not nationalist and it was just a age?" "Wait nationalist wouldn't say that" and so on) shortly after i lost the sense of nationalism... during my ocd i got extremely weak(emotionally and spiritually) and after that i got ocd thoughts about masculinity I can't feel any of those feelings(nationalism and masculinity) i have no emotion at all and i wonder if treatment will give me my nationalism and masculinity back along with my emotions P.s thanks for answering

Definitely go for the treatment. Just make sure ur therapist is knowledgeable & experienced in OCD. You feel this lack of masculinity and nationalism because they are attacked by OCD, which gives u anxiety and triggers you whenever these 2 themes are involved. Seek treatment. Your life will change for the better. Good luck

I'm failing to see how any of this actually applies to real event OCD. When that theme is based around obsessive thoughts about something that actually happened. For a lot of us it's constant guilt and shame over something wrong we actually did. I just don't get how I'm supposed to tell myself it's fake memories or just OCD when it actually happened. And now I'm even having doubts my diagnosis with real event OCD is even OCD or some kind of excuse for what I did in the past that was wrong. Such a confusing time for me. Still love your videos though since finding them.

Do you feel that OCD (for me ROCD) that likely has a basis in real trauma is still responsive the same way to ERP? :) Thank you for your resources Nate ❤
@ocdandanxiety

I think anxiety in relationships can be due to poor past experiences. Either way, ERP seems to be the best way to help someone stay uncertain, give them the benefit of the doubt and enjoy the moments with their partner.
