People have to realize that none of the preferences we have are random, it’s all due to societal conditioning and how we’re socialized as human beings. Girls don’t just come out of the womb saying “I want a tall man” and guys don’t come outta the womb saying “I want blonde hair and blue eyes”. I think it’s really naive to think preferences are just something we’re born with, they’re absolutely not. Preferences is definitely nurture over nature, with that being said you have to ask yourself if it’s okay to have preferences thats rooted in how society is against certain people and discriminates against them.

I definitely agree that society plays a huge influence in people’s preferences, but I also think that ppls preferences can come out of a genuine place.
@basebenthem10802 жыл бұрын
@@djrichardson2000 It can but its rare that they do since everyone is subject to societal conditioning. I know for me I prefer black people because I wanna be with someone who understands what it’s like to be oppressed as a black person in this world and if god forbid anything happened to me can pass that down to my children, but even that’s a result of the society we live in and me reacting to anti black racism. To act like most people’s “preferences” aren’t a result of the society we live in would be naive and gaslighting to the people who bear the brunt of these “preferences” that most people have.

no one has a say on who you choose as a sexual partner. no one is entiteled to be attractive to everyone, for whatever reason, even if its racist. So, should a black person who doesn't like Asians feel obligated to have Asian sex partners? you cannot judge the personal decisions of others in that way. they are not refusing a job or refusing to offer a service to someone because of the individual's race, its about intimate relations. your body, your choice, your not denying anyone any rights so nobody has a say in your preferences.

As a lgbtq person of color , uhm the gay community has a lot of racist tendencies. I live in the Midwest so it’s common for me to see on profiles “no black” or they fetishize you for the “BBC” myth . Some will say it’s their preference, but I feel they use it to deny a whole race of people instead of individual basis. It’s gets very discriminatory at times .
@couturafly262 жыл бұрын
Social issues in the lgbtq+ community are the same everywhere. I'm from NY and this mirrors what goes on in other communities including classism and colorism. In terms of dating apps and visual media caucasian men are favored over men of color. You can be intelligent, cultured worldly and come from a good family and you won't even be considered because of the internalized practices taught from their parents and community growing up. But ultimately I've found that safe spaces for our community are important, such as bars and clubs, as it really creates discourse for this conversation and exposes all of us to learning about other people and not solely on what they perceive ad should be protected. Did I just say online dating is fucked up in way too many words?
@serumbae78792 жыл бұрын
but in hindsight, isnt it better to know everyones preferences? i mean in terms or sexual activity, shouldnt be everyone allowed to be discriminatory in some degree? if not, you will be just saying YES to everyone who ask you to have sex. If that person say, no fat no femmes no asian or blacks. Would you really wanna hook up with that kind of person also? I was just pointing out that in the lgbtq community esp where I live it’s common , but on the other hand you have to watch out for those who fetishize you . Some will date you just because you’re seen as less desirable (so they don’t have much competition or have to worry about cheating ) some men only want to date black when other gays consider them too old , or when they want “bbc”. It goes for other races too . I had several gay men say they date asian/ Latin because they are more submissive. It’s so much to unpack

Actively involving race as a factor in the dating world or really any social interaction is really foreign to me. I grew up and I naturally neglected the entire concept of race because the environment I grew up in thankfully didn't teach me to make distinctions based on race and skin colour. Some of my closest friends have been Black or Asian or Mixed-Race or whatever else and I never thought about their race until I became more active on social media and saw conversations online where race was discussed. And what's more, is that my environment isn't even the most diverse environment to grow up in. Majority of the people I know are also white but I was never taught to discriminate. Australia being Australia, casual racism towards Asians, in particular, has always been normalised but that's about the only racist/racist-adjacent attitude or behaviour that I had to be mindful of and make sure I didn't adopt. This experience solidifies my opinion that racism is taught and to think that the solution (to not teach it!) is so simple yet complicated is infuriating.

Why wouldn't it be ok to have a preference? I'm about as white as they come but I love Black and Latino people the most. As Zach points out here kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZjQfKuhh7-thpY The nicest people and the best food.

5:40 she just contradicted herself cuz she’s basically saying that it’s okay to get into a relationship based off of fetishizing that person’s race as long as you grow and realize it’s wrong in the end. So if she herself realizes that it’s wrong from the jump, why is she giving other people a pass simply based off of the notion “as long as they realize it’s wrong in the end”? If she wouldn’t do it herself why is she letting other people slide if she knows it’s wrong to begin with? Just a weird mentality/mindset to have 🙄🤦🏾♂️. Like no one should ever get into a relationship with someone outside of their race simply cuz of a fetish (that quite frankly, they shouldn’t have to begin with tbh) about that persons’ race that they have.

I mean society does play a role but at the end of the day why does it matter? people can date who they want and it be nobody else's business you cant force someone to date another person who they aren't attracted to. It doesn't matter how we feel about it it snot our business or place to ell others how to feel or think and who to date.

For me it’s become more about culture, religion, rituals, and traditions… almost all are oppressive towards girls or put pressure a couple to do things a certain way, the way family wants, while I’ll do it how ever I want, which includes none of the above, other than, if I had kids, for them to be educated about other cultures, but not to live by those rules! Nobody’s gonna interfere and demand or decide how I should be or what I should do in a relationship! Tradition is just peer pressure from old/dead people! Other than like food/music/clothing/art, anything else in all cultures, any set of rules/demands is unnecessary! I saw somebody once post that “to her religion should be limited to don’t kill/cheat/steal/lie and that’s it!” And I agree!

Yes why shouldn’t u be able to prefer a race just cause you don’t find a race attractive don’t mean u dislike the race and then as human beings/individuals

Every man in my family has been in relationships with yt women. Now I'd PREFERRED if they'd be with Black women but I also know that they weren't purposely choosing them. One of my brothers did have a relationship with a Black woman and has adult sons with her who now have been in relationships with yt women. My son has been in a relationship with a biracial Black girl and has dated yt women. Between him and one of my nephews they both said they'd PREFER to date Black women but the only Black women they've come close to dating are African women. The problem with that is they're too YOUNG because they're studying at the university.

It is your right to be as selective as you want about your partner. As long as it is legal under the law, it is no one's business or concern. Anything else is coercion and rape culture lite.

Black only for me. Maybe mixed. But I don’t have time for the race games. I’m also on a mission in life and I can’t do that with someone non black. They’d literally slow me down or stop me from making progress. Also, I just don’t like paleness… 😬
