First up in the new "impossibles" challenge I try to beat Pokemon Ruby with only a Feebas and NO ITEMS in battle!
FAQ:
1) You use items!
A) That's not a question, also "no items" means no items in battle I do specify that/
2) Someone did this already
A) Cool no one had when I started. It's not a super original concept at this point
3) Do you have a Twitter, I need to hear more from you!
A) Also not a question, and why, and it's @TheJrose11
4) Why won't you make "x" next?!
A) I make what seems interesting to me and also sometimes I don't have every game/capture card I need at the time.

Hey Jrose, I believe there is a better way to handle the whole Ralts issue! Considering you're grinding on Silcoon/Cascoon for a while, wouldn't it be more practical to max out one stat (either defense on the cocoons for simplicity's sake, or attack which from the looks of the rest of the game would be more useful), and keep grinding on Pokémon that give EVs in the maxed out stat until you can beat Roxanne? That way, you don't miss out on any special attack, and can get some way more easily after Roxanne is dealt with (you could even use Zigzagoons from the start to limit grinding too)! I may have been watching way too many of these challenges to come up with a strategy like this...

10:33 this was only true in gen 6 and onward. 3 through 5, you CAN put 255 into one stat. But it doesn't do anything different than 252, because EVs only work in multiples of 4.

@chompyzilla
@chompyzilla 4 жыл бұрын
That’s incorrect. There is a floor in the stat calculation when the EVs are divided that is separate from the one where everything divided by 100. 255 EVs leads to the same value at all levels. The actual equation for the HP stat is floor((2*base + IV + floor(EV/4) + 100)*LV/100) + 10 The equation for the other five stats is floor((2*base + IV + floor(EV/4))*LV/100) + 5

8:56 Feebas is in the Erratic level up group which requires the least amount of experience to get to level 100, however, requires the most experience (quite a bit more more than the slow level up group) between the lower levels. It doesn’t actually begin to require less/level out until around level 30.

idk how you did it, but you managed to make an hour long video just feel really short, yet fun, exciting, and intriguing getting through this challenge. extremely satisfied watching this and learning many more methods of getting through this impossible challenge! also additional notes regarding to the later parts of the vid: -Even if you had bred a much better Feebas for this challenge, the IVs for it and data in general for it would change upon hatching from a different trainer, so it wouldn't matter. -Cray-dily (Least it's what I think too)

23:00 I figure someone's already shared this, and I find it hard to imagine I know something about Pokemon you don't, but just in case... The trick to the slots I've found is to time it. You can actually see the 7's go by, so just make sure you get a rhythm going before you hit A. Sometimes, and randomly, the game won't allow a triple 7 even with perfect timing, but you'll hit the jackpot often enough to for a solid profit. I've saved up several thousand coins from just 50 using this method on the slots in Gen 3.

This was awesome! I love all the little fishie pokemon, so seeing some more challenges with them is always exciting. I also adore the longer videos, especially since you explain your thought process and how you felt during. It's almost like we get to experience it in some way, too! And I agree with other people -- you have an awesome voice. Expressive, calming, and entertaining! Honestly, the way you narrate your videos feels really casual, sort of like talking to a friend. Personally, I can't watch videos that have a formal sounding voice, because it feels way too serious, almost like I'm in a business meeting or something. News talk show hosts are the only thing I can think of as an example atm, lol

Here's why it would have been easier to have done this challenge in Emerald instead of Ruby. Hear me out: starting from Emerald, some of the berries that previously do nothing but raise Contest stats were changed to reduce 10 EVs in a particular stat and increase Friendship (e.g. Pomeg berry = -10 HP EVs). After farming a handful of berries you could feed them to Feebas and then EV-train its Special Attack against the 70% Spinda and Speed against all the Zubats/Magikarp of Hoenn. Yes, I am aware than Seedot has only a 1% encounter rate in Emerald's Route 102 (as opposed to 20% in Ruby) and Emerald is overal a more difficult game than Ruby and Sapphire but that's much less time spent Splashing against defenseless Seedot than targetting 4% Ralts.

Personally, I think item runs are far more interesting, especially the way you do your videos. Because, yeah, the dirty *secret* to the itemless challenge runs is "Just level the fuck up. Honestly, being able to use items in battle, while making a challenge out of it, is great, because... using items in battle is .. kind of rare. Seriously, I'll go through most Pokemon games and just never use stuff like XAttack, etc. Usually it's also easy enough to avoid bothering to using potions in battle because ... hey, that uses up a turn. But when all the strategy has to go into it, using items, makes it far more interesting, as you're lower level, and there's more challenge as things go on. Still a good video, but don't abandon using items in battle entirely, because it's more interesting than itemless.

23:20 wow you don't use pick up regularly?!?! Every playthrough of RSE I do has my team as my starter and 5 zigzagoons, slowly and reluctantly replacing them as I play through because they pick up some amazing things. Doesn't work in FRLG, Meowth has pick up, but it only picks up berries....which is useful in its own right since you can't grow berries in these versions, but not nearly as valuable as PP Ups, nuggets, hidden power TM, potions, full restores and everything else that Pick up gets in RSE.

More gen 3 challenges please! Various comments: I'm so happy you caught that shiny Seedot. I was worried you'd just knock it out! Brawly a joke? Now that's irony. Never thought to use 5 Zigzagoon before for its ability lmao But I know I am going to next time. I would have loved to see you name the Magikarp for the 7th gym Karpe lmao I never understood what the hell was up with Shiftry's feet. I used to think that Drake's coat/arms was long, black hair. In fact, I used to wrongly interpret several overworld sprites from this game. The youngsters have those white shirts that I used to see as long, white beards lmao I used to say CRAH-dill-ee like you, but I believe it's cray-DILL-ee. Oh. You looked it up. Glad I was right, hahaha. Cradily is one of those cool pokemon where many people just don't remember its type, which makes it sorta fun to use casually against friends. I'd love to know how loud you get when defeating a REALLY tough opponent in one of these challenges.

"Gamefreak did everything they could NOT to tell you how stats are calculated" One of my biggest issues in the series is how player unfriendly they make potentially fun mechanics. Even in swsh where it's supposed to be "better" for competitive, it's still only using band-aid solutions to unneeded grind features
